Travellers' Choice
A great mythological flood broke the islands into 800 mostly uninhabited, limestone and granite islands. Pila Island is one of the islands created from this legend. A tented lodge offering luxurious amenities with a focus on sustainability and comfort. Off the beaten path, the outdoor beachfront open restaurant is just steps away from the crystal clear water and pristine shoreline. Relaxing lunches, cosy or formal dinners.

I have had the chance to visit and stay on a few islands in the Mergui and Awei Pila is for sure one of the finest. The rooms and the common areas are great and well integrated with the surrounding which definitly helps to maintain a sense a remoteness and seclusivity which was a big attraction for me. Because of its large landmass, there are several, completlty different beaches and nooks to explore depending on the weather which means there is always something to do! Good diving at a rock formation a quick ride away from the island (and apparently there are some more but we didn't have time). Eric the GM and his team do a fantastic job to make you feel like modern Robinson Crusoe - taking you to some deserted spots, diving, snorkling, kayaking, hiking, etc while also showering you attention like a king with yummy food and drinks and great stories. Eric has managed to groom one of the finest hotel crew in the country and it was quite touching to see the real sense of camaraderie that he has created with all the staff. Awei Pila is redefining luxury holidays - it is not about gold taps in the bathroom but more about curating experiences, combined with a real exclusivity and beautfilu nature.

This is eco-friendly ultra-luxury at it's best. The yurt is stunning and all the details are there - from the personal JBL flip to the luxurious organic French toiletries to the plushest towels. The outdoor shower is divine. The best part of the beach is the "zen cove" they've created with hideaway nooks on platforms situated in the natural rock formations and hammocks hung steps from the sea. The resort is intimate and light touch and holds space for guests to both retreat for ultimate relaxation or fill their days with activities... from diving to sunset hikes to kayaking through mangroves. The activities are integrated seamlessly into your schedule, and the team are highly professional and attentive. A yoga shala overlooking the sea is in the works, which will surely be a highlight. Well worth the trip.

We have been at Awei Pila during End of November / Beginning of December 2019. Sorry for late review. First of all the overall experience of our 6 day stay is still awesome and the island is so much of a beauty you can imagine on the picture. Paying that much of an amount per night i would like to higlight/explain the reason, why just giving 4 stars overall. Food - the chef knows what he is doing and does a good job - we still did not get why, we were seved the exact same main and desert dishes, within 6 days (there must be more creativity to even create the same base ingredient in a different way). I do have to admit, tha the pranws - being cooked the same way as well as the desert were delicious. Diving Department - the chef was not there - the deputy left the day we arrived - the "new" dive instructor had no idea about the dive sites - first in my life i had to emerge on a dive - going to a boat trip to other islands was overruled by the "responsible not being on the island" - to a trip around the iland summing the diving deparment up - very disapointing for the price you pay for each dive/boat trip Spare time / Fun Time Activities - No - one was approaching us for day-time activities in the first two days - We got to know Mitch (need to know) and about then - our activities and fun factor increast by 1000% - went for snorkeling with Mitch - Went for kayaking to other beacht with Mitch - Went for hiking to the naive people with Mitch - no joke- Mitch made it!! Room - Awesome - just awesome - Cleaning - awesome Summing up - as soon as we got to know Mitch - our stay got to a new level. He was taking care of us, we made Yoga, Kayaking, Hiking, Talking, Experiencing. Summing up - Awesome with Mitch. All together, the island is an absolute beauty, the staff in the Resaurant are awesome, the natives are very lovely. As outlined above, theres room fore improvement. Mitch is the Man in this resort - i would come back to enjoy his company/trips/stories. Happy to have been there. Aloha Pascal

A selfish part of me would love to keep this little gem to myself but I realize how unfair that would be to the team of the Awei Pila that so selflessly pampered us at this truly magnificient resort. The sand and the water were Maldivian in beauty but what sets this apart was that the staff was the best that I have ever encountered from Eric the GM to Philippine, Antonio, Mitch, Muimui and the many others who silently and smiling anticipated and met our every wish. ALso the island is much bigger than the Maldivian resorts I have been to with local tribes, hikes and many many other things to do. Well done team Awei Pila and I shall be back soon. Much love
