I had booked 3 nights and stayed 1. Poor wifi. Could not connect with the internet. TV hd only 4 spanish channels. A/C was chilly and without a/c too hot. Ran out of hot water. Seemed like over half of their rooms were not usable. I made a mistake in coming to Ixtapa anyway...1 days and you've seen it all unless you just want to enjoy the beautiful beach. I move over to Zihuatenajo which had lots of culture and open restaurants. Villa Mercedes proved great.

The Sara Suites is a budget hotel with a pleasant, small pool. It's not Grand Luxe, but on its own terms offers good value and has a rather laid back atmosphere. Staff spoke no English – at least until Saturday when a man appeared to help book my taxi. It was very laid back – no-one commented at all on my carrying a bicycle through reception each day and chaining it to the bottom of the flight of stairs leading up to my room (and slightly blocking access to a maintenance room). I spent a week at the Sara Suites, while attending a conference in a much more expensive hotel and have no regrets about having done so. My room was fine, with very efficient air-conditioning. Plumbing was acceptable; the shower worked well. The pool is small, but was generally kept clean; there was no attempt made to stop people swimming outside its official hours, so I suppose if you were unlucky with fellow guests it could become noisy - that didn't affect me. (Hotel staff were unfazed by people – not me – swimming at 11pm at night with cans of beer, and although there was a regulation for silence between 2200 and 0800 it was only lightly observed.) Although there is a small restaurant, most of the time it was closed, and on the one occasion I used it, the only food that they appeared to have were hot dogs! But as there's an Oxxo convenience store on the ground floor at one, and dozens of inexpensive restaurants in the village center, about 5 minutes' walk away, that wasn't a problem. Security is a definitely lax - although the reception area is usually manned 24/7, sometimes there is no-one there, and anyone can just walk round the side of the hotel to get in, anyway. But the area feels safe enough by day or night. Also on the down side, the room safe didn’t work (and I didn’t know how to ask them to fix it in Spanish); the plastic undersheet on the bed would have been horrible had I not removed it each night; there was no chair in the room, and the provision of towels was random, to say the least, but they liked to fold them into swans (see photo). As noted above, I liked the pool which was clean, though too small to do any serious swimming. Access to a public beach is just across the road - again, about 5 minutes' walk. Wifi was acceptable rather than good. At the moment it backs onto undeveloped land, as it is on the "wrong" side of the main road - but as the road only runs to the marina, there's very little traffic on it, and the Sara Suites has direct access to the wonderful cyclopista cycle track. The biggest negative for me was that an adjacent disco (not part of the hotel) operated until the early hours of the morning at the weekend, and kept me awake at least one night. But if I had to stay in Ixtapa again, I would certainly consider returning to the Sara Suites.

This Is the worst hotel to stay in Ixtapa up Mexico. They give you one towel per person no washrags. You sit down on the toilet and water comes out of the bottom of the toilet Brown water. They give you 1 key which goes in a slot for the air conditioning and if you take it out and go away come back your Room is hot and muggy. Jacuzzi is connected to the swimming pool but there's not enough water in it for the jets to work. There's a Brown stains of it on the sheets. They have a sink in the Room with one knob that you push down and the water last for 2 or 3 seconds and no hot water. Very noisy they the window in the Room is open at the top so you hear the cars and the loud music that's played next door. No one speaks English there maybe 2 or 3 words. Channels on the TV do not commend clear and of course it's all in Spanish. You have to wait 10 minutes before the shower gets hot water and that last 2 minutes then it starts to trinkle. I would never recommend anyone to stay there.

This hotel was horrible and we have tried to get our money back with no luck. Here are our findings: Stained bed sheets, no working wifi, no channels on TV, that came in clearly, leaky bathroom, no hot water available until 10 minutes, then water at a trickle, noisy and bad air conditioner not working properly, only two bath towels available, and very cheap, safe not working, If anyone wants to mention the fact that this is Mexico and the rooms are cheap, to that I reply, "Yes, we know this is Mexico and we do not fault this country because we had a wonderful time, and yes the rooms were cheap, but I would rather spend my nights sleeping in the gutter than in this filthy horrible hotel.
