We had a wonderful 2 days at this agriturismo. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were very good. The hosts are very helpfull. But the real highlight is the surrounding: green, quiet and beautiful walks starting at the doorstep. We highly recommend la Chiusa!
This area in and along the Casentino forest national park is absolutely the best kept secret of Tuscany. We stayed in La Chiusa for two nights. We had a large family room on the first floor. The place is absolutely remote and romantic in the mountains and the forest. It is so quiet that you only hear the river down the hill and the singing birds. Our kids were also thrilled about this place. The very kind hostess Biggy prepared phantastic dinners, that we all loved, as all the other guests. There’s a lot to see and do in the surroundings. We visited Stia, where we had coffee and our kids swum in the river. We visited the castle of Poppi and we walked in the forest near La Chiusa, where we saw several waterfalls. One can easily stay for two weeks to discover this area. Only 90 minutes drive from Firenze, it is a miracule that the tourist hords have not discovered this gem. We hope to be back next year!…
We loved our 3 night stay here. The Casentino region may not feature prominently in many British guide books but there's great countryside, mountains and plenty of old, unspoilt villages to explore. Booking directly by email in English was easy and worked perfectly. Biggi is very friendly, welcoming and helpful and quickly made us feel at home. The buildings, lovely barn conversions, are set in a very quiet, peaceful valley with beautiful views and good wildlife. There's plenty of outdoor seating so you can sit with a drink enjoying the tranquility. A complete and welcome contrast to the busy cities we visited later in our holiday. There were numerous birds, particularly swifts and redstarts, flying around the property and some deer one evening too. Our room was spacious and cool with traditional furniture and a comfortable bed. Scipio was very helpful and recommended some great, reasonably easy walking for our stay at La Chiusa and lent us a local OS style map. In particular we enjoyed the hike from Passo la Calla to Monte Falco. There are many mountain bike trails too, apparently. The food was lovely, simple and delicious. The nettle risotto was wonderful as was the crostata; our first introduction to the traditional Italian 'jam tart'. We don't often re-visit places, but we'd love to come back here again.…
We spent three nights here with another couple. Our rooms were on the first floor of the old chestnut drying barn. We shared a lovely sunny terrace. The main building was just a few steps away and had benches, chairs and tables outside, some under cover, where we could have our meals if we wanted to. The property is a small-holding with sheep and horses and is surrounded by fields, trees and beautiful views. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Completely silent at night. The lovely forest walk we did on our first day started 20 metres from the drive entrance and, had we not got lost, we could have walked back straight to the agriturismo across the hills and fields. The forest is beautiful, criss-crossed with paths and some wonderful viewpoints. We were on a demi-pension basis and the food was excellent. The owners could not have been more charming or helpful. We were consulted about some aspects of our meals and given maps and advice to help with out exploration of the forest. The nearest town is about 10 minutes away and there are some other interesting and lovely historic towns within easy car-striking distance. Florence itself is only about 1 ¼ hours away by car.…
La Chiusa was a true discovery for us! Far from the madding crowds in the middle of the magnificent Casentino forest, an ideal place for everyone who wants to relax in the beauty of nature. We woke up every morning with the birds singing, the sound of running water in the valley and the sweet scent of lavender and wild mint. Scipio and Biggi have made their dream come true here and they happily shared it with us. Scipio is not only a forest guide with a great knowledge of nature, he is also a gifted cook who prepares new dishes every day with a lot of pleasure much to the enjoyment of his guests! Highly recommended! Biggi is a warm-hearted person who makes you feel at home by taking care of every little detail. When we were staying in La Chiusa they also had a group of 20 people in the agriturismo but everything was organized so well that we still could enjoy the peace and quite of the environment. The agriturismo is also well-located for the discovery of the surrounding region. Scipio knows the best walking rails in the park and Biggi showed us the best places to visit in the "land of Dante". We loved it so much we extended our stay with an extra night - we stayed 4 nights in total - and still felt real sorry having to leave. This is place we definitely want to go back to!!…
