Nice pub with friendly staff. A fair choice of ales and larger (not sure about wine). Lots of seating and a designated restaurant area. A very welcome drop in while in the local area. I would recommend to anyone who is thirsty and ready for a beer

Visited this restaurant at lunch time and was very disappointed at the poor quality and presentation of the food. It was rather expensive for what we received and the service we found to be poor and unwelcoming.

Ate here last week. We knew that we were unlikely to get a table without booking but took a chance by arriving early evening, midweek. We had a lovely welcome and a table was found for us. Our waitress was charming. The food was delicious - we had the scallops to start and the salted caramel chocolate mousse for dessert...

Lovely location, service and staff excellent. The rooms are nicely modernised and you have to accept creaky floors and noises from above, below and other rooms to the side, it's a very old place. I think the rooms are pricey but just ok for the money. We had dinner one night which we thought was well cooked and presented. However...

We recentlt visited the Punchbowl again but unfortunately we were only able to stay one night as the hotel was fully booked. We stayed in the Strickland room which whilst it does not have a 'view, as such, is very comfortable indeed. Dinner was superb, my wife had the pork tenderloin followed by the banana souffle whilst I had Scottish...

We stayed for two nights (the first two of our trip to The Outer Hebrides) and The Punchbowl set an impossibly high bar which none of the other (six) hotels we stayed in could possibly match. Lorraine and her team are efficient, charming and super-friendly without being over-bearing. The rooms were spotless and well appointed and the food was quite...

A group of 10 - we stayed for 1 night and had dinner in the restaurant. The rooms are generous with great ensuite bathrooms. Lovely linens and toiletries. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The free cream tea on arrival was a lovely touch. Our meal was fabulous and a reasonable price too. As we were a large party...

This excellent pub served the most magical ham hock terrain and roast beef sandwich to my husband and I very promptly. We were scheduled at a funeral locally and time was of the essence...they did not disappoint!! The roast beef sandwich was outstanding, rare beef, a touch of horseradish and fresh leaves all on an open sandwich, just so tempting...

Unfortunately we were flooded out of our house in Kendal for approx 6 months by storm Desmond. During this time we relocated to Crossthwaite and the Punch Bowl Inn became our local during this time. The staff on hearing that we were temporarily living in the village treated us as if we were proper locals and made us and our...

The food itself was excellent - particularly the cream of mushroom soup, which was the best I have tasted. It came with a warmed small bread bun, about 2 inches square. I had started the bread bun before the food came, and therefore asked for another when the soup came. My steak was also good, and served on a warm...
