Needs some heat in their outdoor pool. Food is decent, great prime rib. Staff is very helpful, especially Martin at reception, Elizabeth at concierge and Patricia, restaurant manager. Rooms need some updating.

The Mayan Palace in Puerto is a beautiful but somewhat remote resort. The grounds are immaculate and well laid out. The pool areas are very clean but the older pool is not heated. I would like to see Vidanta spending more of their extensive resources...More

Looking at a review by Lauren G. and find her concerns are similar to my own. We have been owners since 2004 and it seems all they want to do is upgrade us every trip we take. When we purchased there was no discussion of The Luxxe, Grand Luxxe, Bliss or Grand Bliss. We were told that there was Sea Gardens, Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan and every room would be renovated every 5 years as we had to pay an extra fee every 5 years. We have been back twice to the Mayan Palace (2007 & 2016)on the Mayan Riviera and the rooms were exactly the same...certainly not renovated. I believe all the money we are forced to spend goes directly to new buildings that we are not allowed to visit without paying an exorbitant fee. Don't get me wrong, they keep the places up very nicely but 10 or 15 or 20 year old furniture is still old! The rooms in the Mayan Riviera area actually made us all sick with a smell of mold...couldn't see it but it was definitely there. My wife has asthma and on our last day there she actually passed out! Good thing we were leaving. So a questions about the Puerto Penasco resort: golfing sounds great but what does it cost with cart clubs green fees and I would presume a mandatory caddie? Groceries on site? Good selection or very small and expensive? What does a ride to and from the city cost? Did you feel safe there and getting to and from there, also on the drive to and from the city?
