An excellent stay in a well run, friendly and beer-tastic pub. The Old Poets is located in the small(ish!) Derbyshire village of Ashover and we spent a couple of nights here with the intention of walking the local areas trails (just try the ones suggested on the website, they're great) and thoroughly sampling the hospitality of the pub afterwards... The...

What a gem of a place, we stayed for 4 nights & was so glad we did, Darren welcomed us & couldn't do enough for us from the start, we were going to try a different pub every night to eat, but the food was so good that we only went out 1 night, the beer was all excellent, &...

We decided to visit "The Old Poet's Corner" for our 50th Wedding Anniversary having been snowed in there on our Wedding Day in April 1966. The Owners allowed us to stay overnight and supplied breakfast in front of a roaring log fire the following morning. It was a lovely beginning to our marriage.

We hired the 1st floor function room on a Saturday. Food was served promptly and staff were lovely and respectful of our privacy during the speaker. Would thoroughly recommend for any groups looking for a function room and food.

Good location. Great Pub with excellent food and friendly atmosphere. Fantastic Customer Service. Made us feel welcome from the moment we got there, including our 2 black labs. Nothing was too much trouble. Cottage was clean and very comfortable. Joins directly on to the pub so not far to go for food and drink and no trouble getting home after...

This is the fourth time I've stayed and visited the Old Poets Corner, each time to enjoy the twice yearly beer festival in March and October. As they have rooms we always decide to stay over, great to be able to attend the beer festival and toddle off to bed after you've tried as many as you can manage! The...

Given that the pub has won yet another big CAMRA award, we went as a family with the wife and I expecting to grab an average bite but some top notch beer. A couple of the beers were very good, but it's the food we'll be going back for. If there was a kids' menu, I didn't see it -...

Perfect place after a day walking. Comfy beds, great choice of beer, lovely food both breakfast and dinner (recommend booking a table). Most of all friendly staff. Darren was particularly helpful and informative. Thanks everyone at the old poets. We will be back.

We visited this place one Sunday on the off chance of getting a meal - the staff were very obliging and found us a table. Food was good and service excellent. We would definitely go back again. It is also dog friendly but they have a special area in the pub so as not to offend other diners.
