This is a splendid resort hotel at the top of a mountain. The location is beautiful and I enjoyed the gondola ride to the lodge as well as the chair lift ride to the hiking trail to view the gorgeous lakes and vistas. We ate one night at Mad Trapper's in which we were the only guests there; the place was packed with staffers enjoying their night off. Service was poor, food quality was poor, and very expensive. Dinner at Trapper's was a great disappointment, however the rest of the stay was lovely. Enjoyed the giant hot tub and a serving of S'Mores at the gas fire pit. The Nest bathroom amenities smelled divine. No refrigerator in the room, so do bring a cooler if you need to have cold beverages.
Sunshine Mountain Lodge is a great place to stay for two nights! You get to hike the meadows and enjoy the mountains in a location that is one of the most unique in all of the Banff National Park. Hiking sunshine meadows is an incredible way to spend the afternoon. The rooms in the west wing are wonderful with great views and comfortable beds. Only reason this review isn't a 5 is because of the food in the area. You are somewhat stuck on the mountain at night and the food does not match the level of the lodge. No doubt incredible during the winter when the lodge is ski in and ski out, but you don't come here for the food, but the views and great location.
The stay in the lodge was very good. The location and surrounding views are the best. The staff is nice and the restaurant offers delicious food. The waterfall viewing rooms offer more privacy and nice view. Finally, the lodge offers diverse and fun activities.
We were missing Alberta after a few years in Ontario, travelled to Sunshine to spend some time in the mountain. No better place than Sunshine for that. Great place to hike and relax after a long day if activity out and about. They have everything on site if you feel lime staying put. Enjoyed the Spa as well. Great trip.
Loved this place for our one week stay. The Chimney Corner /Eagle's nest restaurant within the resort was a great plus. Gondola ride and Standish Chairlift made this stay even more unique. Outside of Gondola hours, we did not have to wait much for the shuttles either. Its a beautiful drive up the mountains. If you stay for a day or two, and have a packed itinerary, this may not be the place for you as you do spend sometime to get to the highway. But on a relaxed week long trip, this worked out just fine for us.
From the photos and the reviews, I was expecting a serene, upscale, modern mountain lodge. In reality, this is a rather rundown and outdated hotel with a modern façade. The loud drone of the chairlift and all of the activity and construction going on around us (to get ready for ski season, I suppose…) made it hard to enjoy relaxing on the balcony. The food was also terrible. I’m not picky, but it was truly the worst food I’ve had in recent memory. My companion and I spent two nights there and everything we ate was blah. Unfortunately, most of the hotel is staffed by young people from abroad. And it’s just tough to offer an upscale lodging or dining experience when you’re staffed by kids who are there for a seasonal adventure in a foreign country. To be fair, most of them were polite. I recommend visiting this lodge for the hiking, which was beautiful. But I do not recommend staying here.…
We arrived at the front desk at the bottom of the mountain at minutes before 6 o’clock. We were informed that the gondola stopped running at six. A young man drove us up the mountain that without calling for another shuttle down You are trapped at the top with no place to go except the restaurant there. The food was mediocre and significantly overpriced except for s’mores which were free! The marshmallows were hard. The staff was excellent and in the morning the gondola doesn’t start until 8 o’clock but a sweet young lady drove us down at 7 o’clock so we could go on to our next adventure Lake Louise!
Great place to stay and enjoy outdoor activities. The restaurant in the hotel is pretty good. My kid loves all the gondola and lift rides. Overall, it’s a beautiful and quiet place for getaway trips. Highly recommended.
Staying there made for a perfect hiking trip at Sunshine! Perfect location, service, and great food. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Will definitively go back there. The restaurant is also delicious. Hot tub is big and the hikes are amazing.
We booked a room at Sunshine Lodge following a six-day backcountry hike. The staff were incredibly friendly throughout the hotel. Our dinner was excellent. The outdoor hot tub has beautiful fans. We enjoyed the complementary s’mores around the campfire at night and the gondola and chairlift views are beautiful. For the price we paid it was a wonderful place to stay and certainly close enough to see many other sites around Banff.
