After a 19km walk, we arrived at this charming group of buildings next to Amethyst Lake with great views of the Ramparts behind. There is a fully equipped kitchen for cooking meals and the private cabins all have heating (which we did not need to use). To top it off there was a hot shower - a perfect end to... More

Great place to stay in comfort after the 6 hour hike in. Brilliant views, hot showers, comfortable beds and great hosting by Gilbert our host. Row around the lake or hike up past glaciers. There is plenty to do in the area and the cabins are warm quiet and have great views. Highly recommended.

We booked a 3-day/2 night horse ride for our family (2 adults,2 girls , age 11&12). The horses were really good, our guide , Duncan, was an authentic cowboy, very skilled and so nice. Gilbert who owns the company was a laid-back, gracious host who made us feel welcome and at home. The Tonquin Valley was beautiful, and riding 19km... More

What a way to do a family bonding trip with a mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandaughter (9 years old) and great neice (13 years old)! The hike in requires a bit of persistence, but at every stage there is something beautiful and interesting to see. Accommodation is rustic but comfortable, and very welcoming. We stayed two nights, and spent the middle day... More

This is the third backcountry lodge we have visited in Banff/Jasper (along with Skoki & Shadow Lake) and it was our favorite, although all three are excellent. (I offer a brief comparison at bottom.) Here is our take: Hospitality Gilbert's hospitality is second to none. He is a wonderful host and made us feel like we were visiting an old... More

If you enjoy the back country you will love it at Tonquin Valley Adventures. Close to three back country camp sites the lodge offers great fishing and hiking. There are row boats for fishing or just exploring the lake. The cabins are heated with propane. There is no electricity or running water in the cabins. the toilets are pit toilets.... More

We LOVED our trip here! I'd go back in a heartbeat - to see it in winter too :) The two of us hiked in together over the LONG (don't underestimate it!) MacCarrib Pass route from Portal Creek. Our pace was slow and steady with lots of breaks for enjoying the spectacular scenery. Took us a whopping 10 hrs. for... More

Snowmobile supported ski trip is the way to go. We ate like kings and queens, warm and cozy in the sleeping cabins and cooking lodge. What a treat! We were in for 6 nights and could have happily stayed longer. 3 adults and 3, 14 year old boys.

This has been my best experience anywhere in the backcountry. The horse rides in, day rides, accommodations, hikes, boating, fishing, meals and scenery are spectacular. I very highly recommend staying here. The staff are genuine and accommodating. You can also hike in or have the horses carry your packs to lighten your load.

This is an experience everyone should get to do once in their lifetime. Beautiful views, warm hospitality, tasty food, comfortable accommodation, all very reasonably priced. Just loved the whole trip. We hiked in at a leisurely pace and were greeted with a big smile, tasty bruschetta and an icy cold beverage. All our gear was all ready there so we... More
