The rooms are clean and the kitchen immaculate. The furniture is thrift shop and the window was drafty. For the price they charged I figured the place would have a bit more class. I know it's a hostel and it's OK just not the best one I've stayed at. ,

I stayed at the Painted Turtle Guesthouse in Oct 2016 for 1 night, The general living space was very pleasant and open with good facilities, the rooms however were quite cramped and being next to the road there was traffic noise from buses at night and early in the morning. The bed wasn't very comfortable and I could feel the...

Friendly service in a hostel that has quite a bit of charm about it.Better than average room. Showers were as clean as i`ve experienced anywhere. Very quiet nights sleep for an urban location. Would have enjoyed staying more than one night.

When we arrived they told us they had been overbooked and that me and my boyfriend had to stay in seperate rooms. Which is ok by me. The thing is that I was to stay in a 4 mixed dorm and my boyfriend in a 4 male dorm. But there were only guys in my "mixed" room, so it seems...

Never having stayed in a hostel type hotel and being older I was surprised at how great the bed was. Super comfortable and great bedding! However I did not enjoy sharing a bathroom which were dirty! No TV and an old smell in the room with no air conditioning was not my favorite. We didn't use the facilities but the...

Not 5 stars purely because the HI card wasn't accepted and this wasn't clear on the booking especially when it's meant to be accepted. However, the hostel itself. Great toilets. Spacious common room/kitchen. Big beds, hot weather but room had a fan in it.. useful staff at reception with info on what to do where to go etc.. also we...

Friendly and pleasant staff. I booked my stay with booking.com and was not supposed to be able to get a refund when my trip to Nanaimo was cancelled. Painted Turtle waived any fee whatsoever with no fuss.

Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was spacious and comfortable. Complimentary towels was a good touch. Rooms were hot and stuffy however there was a fan to help this. The common room was really lovely to chill out in and cook dinner. Staff were helpful with local knowledge which is how we found out about newcastle Island. Just be...

Clean rooms with fresh towels and sheets. Large common area, but pretty uncomfortable TV room that felt more like you were in a classroom. Bathrooms were perfectly adequate, and overall the place offers a good value. The best part about it is the location; downtown and 5 minutes from Mafeo Sutton Park.
