Have stayed at the Sylvia over several years. Superb location on English Bay and the sea wall. Staff always courteous, helpful, friendly and professional. Prices can't be beat. Hotel not the most modern, but clean and with character.

For the past 10 years we have been coming to the restaurant at the Sylvia Hotel, especially enjoying the breakfasts here. It has always been great...until now. The staff we have seen there for the last 10 years were not there but the ones on shift were friendly and helpful, although there were only 2 servers and they were far...

Thank-you for your 10 years of loyalty and so you know how hard we work to offer a great experience in the restaurant. I am sorry on this visit we did not hit the mark. I see you mentioned how busy we were on the day. We do our best to schedule the correct number of staff for the business...

Had a very clean, double corner room with a wonderful view of English Bay. Beds and bedding very comfortable. Staff very helpful with planning our day, transit info, suggestions for touring. Good breakfast choices on the menu in restaurant. Located very close to many transit routes, making it easy to get anywhere in the city. The sea wall walk is...

We stayed here after flying in from UK and were very pleased with welcome, setting and rooms. Dinner in the hotel bar was great. Clam linguine recommended. Friendly staff. In the morning possible to rent a bike and cycle around the sea wall of park. Will be back

This hotel always feels like home. I have stayed here many times. Every time I am in Vancouver. Even passing by I will stop just to stay the night here. Great staff always pleasant and helpful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else! Comfy beds, rooms with character and a location second to none.

Welcome back and thank-you for your loyalty. The staff will enjoy reading how much you appreciate their service and I know how hard they work to exceed every guest's expectation. I was happy to read that you noticed how comfy our beds are (after all we do sell sleep). Being a heritage site we try to stay true to the...

Staff very attentive, polite and professional. Always available. We were thankful for the use of their umbrellas... rained every day :( Very comfortable beds, bedding. Nice pillows! Across the street from a sand beach and to the Sea Wall walk. Easy access to Stanley Park. Short walk to sea ferry to get to Granville Island. Transit stops within a block...

Thank-you for your well written review about your stay with us. I am sorry about the rain (I call it liquid sunshine). The location is often mentioned as we do have a great location for whatever reason you need a room in Vancouver. I hope that you will return again soon. I appreciate your rating and scores.

Stayed at The Sylvia Hotel for a couple of nights following a friend's wedding in Canmore last summer. They were on their way to Vancouver Island for their honeymoon and I was enroute to Whistler for Pemberton Music Festival so we took a few extra days to wind down post-wedding in one of our favorite cities in Canada. When I...

The Sylvia is a very nice older hotel with a lot of charm in a quiet location. We actually had a 2 bedroom suite which was great. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous. It's located across the street from English Bay which has beautiful views and a very nice walk/bike trail.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
