The location was great, the cost was great, lovely area. We wished we could have had breakfast there, but walked up to Robson and found a good place. The small size of the hotel was wonderful; the walk up made us a little breathless, being seniors, but the room felt cozy with a great view out into the quiet tree...

The lounge needs a good clean and a bit refreshing it's dowdy and musty looking Change the frames on the historical photographs in the hallway to something more fancy and add more splashes of colour and elegance in rooms and bathrooms

It was great, location perfect. Staff friendly. Did park in Bachman parking spaces and that worked out well. Ran in Stanley Park two days and this location is so close. Next time I would like to try the Italian restaurant below hotel.

Love staying here! Price and location for the win. I have stayed here multiple times and each time the service is to par. My only wish would be eventually better beds! Back hurts a little when waking up

I had never heard of the Buchan ever and I've lived in Vancouver and sunshine coast for years. I needed somewhere to stay in Vancouver overnight. Air&b's were not cheap. I did not eat to spend much money as I only needed a place to sleep. It was quiet, clean and I could actually sleep! I usually stay downtown but...

Hotel staff was friendly and helped me with directions to find nearest gas station, and very efficient during our check in. The room was tidy and well kept. Thank you for the wonderful stay! - Connor Reimer

The headline sums up my review. Chain hotels are predictable and generally fine but little properties like this are a nice oasis from the norm. The neighbourhood is charming, the room was basic but just fine with a good bed, blazing white sheets and pillow cases and a functional bathroom. TV was basic cable and it would have been good...

We enjoyed our peaceful stay at the Buchan hotel where it did not feel like a big city hotel, but a unique European apartment on a quiet and character residential street that is also just a couple blocks to all conveniences-- including endless great selection of restaurants, parks and shops.

It's a budget hotel with minimal amenities, but this is compensated for by helpful/friendly staff, clean room, great price and awesome location. Hotel and room is basic, but nicely appointed and it has character and is unique . . . not the cookie cutter feel of a corporate a chain hotel. I'll stay here again on my next trip to...

Was in a really good location, lots of good restaurants around. Staff was very friendly, rooms were clean. We had a room without a washroom, but we still had a sink and the washrooms were right across the room so it wasn't a big deal. It was really nice we could store our luggage there before and after checkout.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
