Great hotel, good value, low-key and unpretentious but perfectly comfortable. Wonderful location footsteps from the beautiful Stanley Park. Minutes away from dozens of dining options on Robson and Denman Streets. Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice living room with books, board games, tourist leaflets and free tea and coffee. Would stay here again with no hesitation.

Stayed there before leaving on a cruise out of Vancouver. Very charming and quaint. Refreshing change from a chain hotel. Grounds and surrounds were beautiful and tranquil. Lots of nice folks out walking their dogs and very close walk to various places to eat.

If price is the main consideration, and you don't mind shared toilet and shower facilities, then the Buchan could be a fine choice. No A/C but there was a ceiling fan plus a stand alone fan, plus windows to the outside that opened. Great location- 2 blocks off Denman and Robson with access to all those shops and restaurants, but...

We enjoyed our short visit there and would like to come back another time to stay longer. We needed a short overnight to connect us from a late arrival to an early morning departure. The building is really charming! Loved the vintage atmosphere! We enjoyed a nice romantic dinner at Adesso (Italian Restaurant attached to the Buchan) for a reasonable...

The Buchan is perfectly situated at walking distance to English Bay, Stanley Park, and multiple eateries from middle to moderate range. The hotel is comfortable, very clean, and well maintained. Our room was quiet, and spacious enough for our needs. The only drawback was the bed. It was quite hard.

Good value in a really good location, easy to get around and close to Robson/Denham streets and English bay. Thin walls however = earlier wake ups than expected due to other guests showers mostly!!!!!

Wonderful city and the Buchan hotel was exactly what we wanted. The value was excellatn. We were in the city location we wanted. The room was very clean and tidy, it was not fancy, modern, etc. but we are a retired couple who likes to travel see the sights, and we don't spend much time in a room.

We walked to a lot of different places close to the hotel and had a dinner in the revolving restaurant fairly close to the hotel. Breakfast at Hot spot was good value for...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
