I have occasion to visit St. John regularly, generally to catch an early morning flight. I always stay at the Hillside Motel. Although it is an older structure, the owner keeps it clean and in good repair and is very accommodating as regards late arrivals and early departures. For the price, I highly recommend the Hillside when you are in St. John.

Town was sold out as usual (book earlier next time ). when I rolled into town, My reservation got bumped at another hotel and no where in town had a room. Called here by accident and the owner said he had no rooms but would find something First impressions were not good as it looked pretty run down. First time I stayed here it was 75 to rent a small room and 105 for a cottage. No rooms but Had a cottage available. The view from the back deck was nothing spectacular but it was a bed with a view. Decent sleep, beds were not Taj Mahal but good enough. Charged me for room not cottage room rate because I booked it through 3rd party while on route great price on short notice and nice host when you call you get the owner. Not a lot of places to eat nearby but lots within a short drive. A longer drive to downtown. stayed the next time in the actual motel rooms. Place is quite run down but the price and friendly owner somehow offset it. It’s a place to put your head nothing more

We stayed with our cat and dog for a week and enjoyed our vacation. Yes other reviewers are correct that it is a bit outdated but the owner is a great person and works hard to make sure that your stay is enjoyable. The good: decent size rooms, no smells, safe location, nice quiet street to walk your dog in the morning and evening, our room had comfortable bed, kitchenette with all required appliances, clean towels and bedding, friendly owner, safe parking, close to stores and parks, technically our room can be called oceanview there is a nice view of Fundy bay from the window. What can be improved: appliances are outdated, though still work as intended, shower could use some upgrades, also is okay but could be upgraded, cleaning of the rooms could be a bit more thorough, the room was okay but we had to ask for some extra help first day. Overall you get more than you expect at this price range and motel owner is constantly working on improvements. We would stay again.

My mom, my son and I were there last night for a last min stay crossing towns. I read the rating, considered the price, and was expecting the worst, but turned out it was a nice surprise. Beddings are clean, floor is dustless, one outlets on the side of each bed, however, one of them doesn’t has any night table and my phone had to sit on my bed while charging. The only thing I don’t like is the bathroom, no extra roll of toilet paper, no coffee maker, no hair dryer that I had to went to the office to borrow one at 11pm. And more important, there is no outlet for razor or hair dryer in the bathroom. It has no fan but an independent heater in the bathroom. There is a fan hanging on top of the beds but no ac. We don’t need ac as it’s kinda cool that we actually had to turn the heat on at night. Plenty of parking spaces, good wifi speed, But not many choice of TV channels. There is a nice lake view over the highway at the back. Quiet and nice. So consider the price I was paying for, I would still recommend this place to friends. A nice quiet clean place just for the travellers

I don’t know if the people rating one star are expecting to stay in a Hilton for $90 or what, but I found it to be really good for the price. Super friendly staff. Might go back and propose to to my girlfriend there

We booked last minute with Lokesh over the phone & he was absolutely fantastic. Showed us one of the more luxurious apartments/2 bedroom places with full kitchen & we were delighted. Very clean, bright, spaceous & user friendly. Huge bed in the master bedroom; very large microwave, stove & fridge in the kitchen & a massive walk through bathroom. Very conveniently located just outside of town with a great view back to town & only a 6 min drive to the Reversing Falls Rapids. Hillside Motel met out requirements perfectly & we would most definitely stay again. Thank you Lokesh, it was a pleasure meeting you :-)

The owner was pleasant and helpful. We stayed in the "house" and it was simple, neat and clean. It isn't a fancy place and doesn't try to be. It is a cheap place to sleep and nothing more. I probably won't stay again unless stuck for a room, I prefer to be uptown and able to walk around and shop and eat.

We visited the Hillside Motel knowing its rating, but we needed an over night spot last minute for Area 506. -bedspread smelt like it was used to wipe off each performer from Area 506 before they made out bed with it. -second blanket had a white substance stuck to it. Not a stain. Literally crusted on, like maybe someone had tried to write it? Take a guess - we voiced our concerns at check out and were scolded for not going to the office at 1am when we got back from the concert so they could fix it? There were no lights on and no phone in the room. And it was 1am. We had considered just driving home (we live in Fredericon) but we were exhausted and had been drinking at the festival. After sleeping fully clothed and in our own blankets that we happened to have in the car, they offered us 20 to 25 percent off. Absolute dump.

If you are looking for a clean quiet place to spend the night this place does the job. Rooms are typically dated, but for the money it offered what we needed. Its close to the Market and Digby Ferry and easy to get to. Host was friendly.
