So this hotel is about 10 minutes from downtown, easy taxi service if you don't want to drive. Check in and out was effortless, room was very clean and in good order. Room was well equipped and we caught a decent rate. No breakfast at the hotel, but Denny's is linked and Cora's is not far away. I saw some reviews that were less than flattering and frankly, I do not understand why. I would certainly recommend this as a good place to stay!

This was our second stay at the Sandman Signature St. John's Hotel since it opened. We love the central location and proximity to restaurants and shopping. We also like that it's new and modern. This year we were upgraded to a King Suite. Thank you to the gentleman working the front desk that day because it made our week a heck of a lot more comfortable!

Overall we had a great stay. Although there was one particular situation we encountered that is worth mentioning and we hope it is addressed so it doesn't happen again in the future. One afternoon while my partner was just getting out of the shower and I was in the middle of a meeting for work, maintenance decided to let themselves into the room to certify a fire extinguisher (nothing urgent), even though there was a do not disturb sign on the door. A do not disturb sign means exactly that, do not disturb. Not let yourself in. This is not ok. I quickly told him to leave because I was in a meeting. He decided to show up again about a half an hour later. This time I answered the door and told him it was not a good time (I was still in my meeting) and to come back later. He insisted that he needed to certify the fire extinguisher so I handed it to him out in the hallway and shut the door. Needless to say I was pretty pissed off at this point. The gentleman in question also wasn't wearing any mask. Given the current environment, they should not have the ability to just walk into guest rooms uninvited for something so minor.

We visited for 3 nights in June 2021 and had been looking forward to our hotel stay as we had stayed there before in a suite and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had said after that visit that Sandman Signature would be our go to hotel for any visits to St. John’s. This visit was not the same and we were so disappointed. Firstly all the COVID-19 Signage is in place but that’s where it ends, nothing is followed except for the employees wearing masks. In three days we saw no one sanitizing high touch areas in the Lobby or at the elevators. The lobby was frequently full of hotel guests not distancing. The smell of pot/weed was overwhelming and the number of people smoking in proximity of the front door was unbelievable. Our room was nice but not overly clean, I sanitized the room with Lysol wipes for our safety. I tried calling customer service from our room at least 6 times and let it ring 10 times each then hung up when it went unanswered. What if I had of been experiencing an emergency, this is not good enough. I’m disappointed and sad that our stay wasn’t the enjoyment we had anticipated.

My girlfriend and I stayed here while we were in town to do some shopping, and the gentleman at the desk gave us an upgrade to the king suite with kitchenette, which we thought was was very generous. However, I was appalled to discover that all the dishes in the cupboards and cutlery were dirty. There was coffee on the spoons and lip prints on the glasses and mugs. We had to thoroughly wash everything before we used it. To me, this is unacceptable under normal circumstances but especially with COVID-19, I think more effort needs to be done by hotel staff to ensure the kitchen items are clean and not assume the previous guest cleaned their dishes well before they checked out.
In my opinion all the dishes should be removed from the room and replaced with clean dishes from a dishwasher to ensure they are clean and sanitized. If that is too much work, then they should not be offering a kitchenette service during this time.

We never want our guests to feel uncomfortable in any way (especially during such a hard time for all). Our front desk team always love to help in any way that they can from changing out the dishes, to moving rooms, or offering VIP services to make up for multi night stays, but nonetheless, walking into this kind of room is not part of our Sandman Standards and want nothing more for you to enjoy your future stays with us! Pros:

Hotel is located on Kenmount Rd, close to the Avalon Mall
and price was comparable to others in the area.

Cons: where do I start?

The front desk staff are not welcoming at all.
Our room was dirty . Dishwasher contained dirty dishes, bathroom walls around the sink area stained with soap or tooth paste splatters, bathtub had soap scum ring, floors and furniture dusty, backsplash in kitchen had splatters if food and grease, cabinets had greasy finger prints on handles.

Within an hour of check in I advised the front desk attendant of the room deficiencies and he assured me that the room would receive a VIP cleaning.
The next evening on return to the room , it had received the basic cleaning and the bed made. Honestly, I could have made the bed, swept the floor and dumped the garbage.

Checkout! Again front desk staff barely acknowledged we were there.

We travel to St John’s quite frequently, we usually stay at the Hampton but have stayed at most of the hotels in the city.

Comparing to my stay at the Hampton Inn a few weeks ago, no comparison. Hampton staff very welcoming, actually felt like they were happy to see us rather than bothering them. The room very clean and we felt like the cleaning was even more thorough due to Covid.

My partner and I have stayed at the Sandman going on 40 times since the hotel has opened, and we will continue to do so.

The hotel is modern and clean, the rooms are very spacious and have everything you need! Some of the rooms do include a kitchenette, which is great if you want to cook your own meal while you are there. If you don't feel like cooking, that's OK too! There are two restaurant's on sight that provide room service, so you can have your food come to you, or you can go down and have a nice meal in the restaurant. If none of those things appeal to you, there are many restaurant's located very close by! Or you can order in too!

Back to the topic of the rooms. There are all modern and clean, I haven't had an issue with any of the rooms. The beds are also super comfy, to the point that it makes it difficult to get out of bed! But its a good thing they have a 12:00pm checkout!

The staff were great as well, very hospitable, friendly and accommodating to all requests. If you have any questions they are very quick to answer or find out the answer quickly. They go above and beyond to make sure that you are comfortable while you are there during your stay.

My partner and I will continue to stay at this hotel, whether it is because its a night away, he has to go to the airport early in the morning, or if I get off work late and the highway is terrible due to weather. I can take a guess and say that him and I will be back many more time.

The hotel is at a great location, provides great service and having the restaurants attached is a real convenience. We ate at Moxie’s with another couple and the service and food was great. We will certainly be back again,, this visit was our second stay at the Sandman this year.

Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed 4 nights in a King Suite and were really pleased with the room. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, cutlery and pans for cooking. We also had a small balcony which was nice since the weather was gorgeous.
The room was very clean and the hotel was extremely quiet (added bonus!). Again, we were very pleased with our stay. The hotel is in a nice location, close to shopping and restaurants.
The pool was small but the water was warm and there was always plenty of towels in the pool area.
No complaints.

Booked a one-night staycation for our twins birthday.

Pros: convenient location, restaurants on site, hotel is new, clean and modern.

Cons: rooms are a bit dark thanks to the decor and lack of natural lighting in the living area of the suites. Walls are paper thin! Could hear every word of the conversation happening in the next room after 11pm when we were trying to sleep.

Other: we booked this hoping to take advantage of the pool. I called in advance to inquire about current policies and procedures “due to covid”, and was advised pool time can be reserved but not until we checked in. I explained it was for kids birthday, and the only reason we were staying was for the pool. I was told at that time that it was wide open - not a single a lot booked for our stay and led to believe it would not be an issue. We arrived an hour before the allotted check in time and there was actually no available pool time at all. Front desk staff was pretty apathetic and just seemed to hate his job in general. Also, guests are expected to wear mask in common area but staff was not masked.

Overall we would NOT choose this property again.
