Stayed during COVID — staycationer. Took two kids and spouse. Overall the stay was good. We chose this place simply because it has a pool for the kids. Rates were quite reasonable. The cleaning and public health protocols were very good —I like that masks were required outside of your hotel room. We got an adjoining room one with 2 queens and one with a king. I am adamantly convinced that most hotel beds are not the standard size. We have a king at home and the king in our room was not the same width. The queens were pretty small too imo. (I find this is the case at many other hotels too). But the beds were comfortable nonetheless. The only thing I did not like in the room was that the mini fridge was way too loud at night. We tried to find the plug because we didn’t need them (no ice inside) but the plugs were impossible to get at since they were behind the huge closet they were in. With the AC and the very loud fridge humming in and out it was hard to stay asleep. The pool is VERY small but nice. Very warm (almost like a warm bath). I was surprised that 14 ppl were permitted in there at one time (per covid measures) — I would leave if that many were in there at once. The water slide is intense — but the kids loved it. That was our highlight. The staff was great and very helpful and friendly. The grab-and-go bfast is basically just packaged / processed foods (granola bars, fruit cups, etc). Better than nothing but not really what you usually get as complimentary bfast at most hotels (no pastries for instance). Lots of restaurants around the hotel so that’s no big deal. Not too bad of a place!

Dear gjg1986, Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for choosing the Fairfield Inn & Suites for your staycation. During these difficult times of COVID-19, we are following guidelines outlined by our brand and by the Chief Medical Officer. Our pool was able to reopen in June at 50% capacity which allows us to have 14 swimmers per session. Unfortunately, buffets are still not permitted in the province, so with the guidance from our brand, we offer a Grab n Go option with several different choices to start your day. Please don't ever hesitate to call the front desk to let them know if there is anything in your room that is not satisfactory. The front desk team is there to ensure you enjoy your stay. Thank you again for your review and we hope to welcome you back again. Warmly, Ann Marie R, General Manager

First of all, we picked the Fairfield for our weekend staycation because we got an unbelievable rate for a King Suite ($95 a night on the Fairfield website). We were very pleased with our stay overall. The staff was fantastic! Really friendly and helpful! Honestly, the staff was worth the stay. Just great!
This was our first hotel stay since Covid-19 so we were a little apprehensive about how things would work but Fairfield seems to have it handled well. You need a reservation for the pool but honestly, most of the time we went, we were alone. You can book a 90 minute pool slot and then they clean/sanitize. We never had an issue getting a pool slot but we were there in early July and there were very few people there. I believe only 14 people are allowed at a time.
Breakfast is still included but it's cold breakfast. They had cereal, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, muffins and coffee/juice. It was very well done and physical distancing guidelines in place.
We were very pleased with the size of our room. It had a tv area and a microwave. The coffee pots are removed for obvious reasons.
Overall, we had a lovely staycation to the Fairfield!

Right from the time that I reserved my room at the Fairfield, I knew I had chosen the right place. Tara who had taken my reservation was at the front desk when I arrived. I was tired and overwhelmed and she calmed me right down. Both Tara and Anna (also from the front desk) always made sure that my breakfast was delivered to my door each morning. Tara even went out of her way to pick up an order of paint canvases from Michaels for me. I was a little concerned that about being stuck in a hotel room alone for 14 days but the staff here has made me feel very comfortable and are always quick to bring me whatever I need. The employees that I have names for are Tara, Anna and Kevin (or maybe Tom) but there has been many others (who I don't have names for) that need recognition as well. Anyone working the second two weeks of August have been incredible as well. I would recommend this hotel to everyone , no matter what your reason for staying in St. John's. I am very impressed with everything from the cleanliness of my hotel room to the helpfulness of all staff that have made my stay enjoyable. Thank you to all.

Dear G9055SCsueg, Thank you so much for sharing your isolation experience. It must have been a difficult time for you over the course of 14 days, and I am delighted to hear that your stay was as pleasant as it could be. Tara, Anna, Kevin (and yes, we also have a Tom), together with their co-workers, have worked with care and empathy over the past several months ensuring that all of our guests have a safe and clean environment for their stay with us. I will be sure to share your review with them as we all need a little good news these days. Thank you for choosing the Fairfield Inn & Suites for your two week stay and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future. Warmest Regards, Ann Marie R, General Manager

I had a great weekend stay at this hotel recently and had to write a well deserved review.

I will preface this by noting that this hotel was very busy with sports events this particular weekend but you'd never know it. Each of the staff we encountered during the stay were amazing and went above and beyond. In particular, we were amazed by the kindness of Andrew on the front desk. It was a shopping weekend and we had a lot of bags! He helped us from the elevator, checked us out, and then even helped us bring our bags to the car. He made sure we grabbed some breakfast items from the free breakfast area for our journey and wished us a safe trip. We commented on his kindness and he said "it costs nothing to be kind, so why be cheap?!?" :)

As for the room, the space was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the TV had set up for Netflix. I forgot to pack a few things and a quick call to the front and they provided me with what I needed. The shower is large with glass doors, plenty of hot water, and had nice dispensary style scented toiletries. The vanity is a large size so lots of space for your make up and toiletries while getting ready.

The location is great for shopping. There are many shops and services on located right there on Kentmount road. And Costco is just an 8 minute drive away. There is an Irish Pub style restaurant (Fionn Macools) in the parking lot and Starbucks is also next door.

I have previously stayed at Sandman during my trips to town but I'll make Fairfield Inn my new go to stay.

Room was good.. Breakfast was a disappointment. Advertised for 6:30 and there was basically nothing there. Bread showed up at 7, they put a sign on the juice machine that it was out of order, no yogurt, no butter, and no fruit. For the price of the rooms, I was pissed. I don't mind paying but give me some service. This was a classic ripoff ! I Paid too well for this to happen !

Good afternoon N60630Ldonb, Thank you for sharing your experienc with us. We are working diligently with our suppliers as they have many items on back order. On several occasions over the past few weeks, our supplier did not have any yogurt or milk and another delivery arrived with fruit that was bruised and not suitable for presentation. I do apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations and I hope that you give us another opportunity to show you the service we have been known for. Warmly, Ann Marie R, General Manager

We just came back from a weeks stay at this gem & we would definitely without hesitation stay here again.
I’ve read some of the other reviews on here & it feels like they were not at the same hotel that we were.

My husband & I are quite picky & have stayed at quite a few airbnbs and hotels around the world & this hotel made us quite happy. We both said we’d definitely stay here again when we come back to St Johns.
It was super clean, cozy, had lots to offer with the pool, gym, free parking and free breakfast.
We loved our room & bathroom. The room had everything you could want including a mini fridge, microwave & coffee station, tv, charging stations beside the bed. The lavender & eucalyptus body wash in the shower was well loved by us. I attended a family wedding while here so I was very happy to have an iron & ironing board to press my dress.
We are all about the mattresses too wherever we stay & I always look for comments on that when I read reviews before booking anything & the beds here were good! A little firmer than our dormeo sleep country mattress at home but good! We slept well :)

This hotel is perfectly located to everything as well including the airport.
We took advantage of the free breakfast but also walked to Cora’s down the street & to Jacks at the Capitol across the street.
We def recommend heading to the Newfoundland Distillery and doing a flight of their incredible spirits as well as the Dildo brewing company. We did both in one day & it was really beautiful. The scenery, the drive, the vibe, the flights, the food all amazing!

We can’t wait to come back! Oh! & if your wanting to get screeched in, Christian’s is by far the best! You’ll have the best time there! Anthony Bourdain also chose his place!

I also love the Newfoundland Distillery and Dildo Brewing Company, and the hour or so drive is definitely worth it. I am glad you experienced a screech-in at Christians, they certainly know how to entertain. The room is not cleaned daily. We stayed for several days and the room got filthy and apparently, they do not clean the rooms (towels, beds, vacuuming, garbage, etc) until 7 days unless requested. We did request, 2 times, and even after that the room was not vacuumed and the toilet was not cleaned. Our dirty towels remained on the floor for days. If I pay for a hotel room I expect the beds to be made and the room cleaned daily. I would not recommend this hotel. Ever.

Dear H4696PEsimonem, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It is industry standard now, that daily service is not offered. The Marriott brand is reviewing the way we have been doing things over the past couple of years and we hope to see changes coming soon. Labour has also become a challenge across all industries in recent months and we are working our way through this as well with ongoing recruitment and training. Your feedback will be shared with the department leaders as a way to improve our service. Thank you again, Warmly Ann Marie R, General Manager

I am saddened to even think about writing this because I have had many stays at this hotel that have been wonderful. However, my latest stay with my family was not great and thus I felt the need to write this review. Things were going wonderful until my Dad looked down and seen the bottom of his bed skirt was stained up. We called the front desk to alert them, to ensure we didn't get charged for this as we had a dog with us. Next, my Dad flipped over his pillow before lying down to sleep and discovered that there was blood all over the pillow case and pillow itself. Upon flipping back the bedsheets, there were also small dark-red spots of blood on the fitted sheet and the top sheet. I work in healthcare and based on how this blood was still relatively dark red it appeared that it hadn't been there long but it was dry. My mother called the front desk who offered to move us to another room. Our family was in town for a medical appointment, with the family dog in tow, so packing everything up and moving to another room at that hour did not seem desirable. My loved one asked for the whole bed to be changed and a full strip of the bed was done. This was an absolutely disgusting experience overall (even the front desk and laundry person who brought new linen were shocked). The hotel ended up giving us a free night to use in the future but I will have to see an improvement in reviews before attempting to book that night. By the look of recent reviews this hotel has gone downhill from the amazing place it once was. I get that sometimes things can be overlooked or missed...but clearly this bed was not touched after the previous guests.

Dear justkle, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am disappointed in hearing of your experience as this is below our standards. I am glad to hear that my team provided your with appropriate compensation, however that certainly does not make up for your experience. We will use this feedback as a coaching opportunity with the many new team members that have started with us over the past several weeks. They work very hard and do their best, however this will bring this serious issue to the forefront. Thank you again and I hope you give us another opportunity when your travels bring you back to the city. Ann Marie R, General Manager

This is a great hotel very well managed. It is spotless and although 10 years old , plus it hides its age very well. We had a couple of hiccups, but the staff was very attentive and worked hard to find mutually beneficial solutions. I was very impressed with their commitment to customer service. You can tell it is an integral part of their staff DNA. We arrived early but they were able to let us check in early. We were there for a few days, and I was very impressed with the breakfast offerings as they had many choices of fresh fruit and rotated the egg and protein offerings. They have a large breakfast area. I didn't use the pool as there were many kids there when we were there, but the gym was well equipped and well maintained. It is a bit if a drive out from the downtown, but very close to the Avalon Mall. This is hotel is good value and you won't go wrong staying here. A superior Fairfield property I would highly recommend.

Stayed last night with my mother on a cash & points night. Check in was fairly easy but we were not given any information on the amenities of the hotel or the breakfast hours.
Room was fine however the bathroom fan did not work and the pumps of the shampoo/conditioner/body wash were crusty and built up with old product. Electronic outputs are older models (no usb). Beds were comfy.
Cleanliness of the hotel could be worked on but we attributed it to it being a holiday weekend and quiet.
Will give the hotel another shot in a few months.

Good morning We are not on the TCH in fact there are no hotels in St. John's on the TCH. We are however not far from the TCH. You can reach our location by taking exit 45 onto the Team Gushue Highway, then the Kenmount Rd East exit. When you reach Kenmount Rd, we are just 0.5 km down Kenmount Rd. I don’t think people who say the hotel is on the outskirts actually stayed in the Fairfield in St. John’s, NL. It’s actually smack in the middle of the city. While the ocean is not visible from any room, it isn’t far away. The city is practically built on the ocean. Almost anywhere you go in the province you can see the ocean. NL is an island. It’s a great hotel for families and just a lost anyone. It is very close to the mall and outlet shopping. There are some great restaurants nearby and if you don’t want to go out there is ‘skip the dishes’. Have fun when you visit and be sure to leave the city and get out around the bay.
