The location of the hotel was well placed . The room was lovely - we enjoyed having our own jacuzzi in the room ! However the staff were cold ,impersonal and not receptive , not helpful in helping you . They did not offer any information. They did not even offer a map to the city! In fact they did not offer anything at all ! Breakfast each day consisted of food you had yo go and get and take back to your room . This consisted of a piece of fruit , a yogurt , a muffin and coffee from a machine ! I am not a great breakfast eater but after four days of this breakfast I could not stomach anymore ! No change in the menu at all … and you paid for it as part of your hotel room . Very disappointed in their service and their breakfast impersonal menu ! If you want a great location yes… if you want assistance no!…
On a quick trip to St. John's, I was able to book a night at Murray Premises. What a wonderful place, my room was like being in a country inn in France. They've kept the beautiful architecture of the building with all the modern amenities. The staff were lovely and the location is perfect with access to so many great restaurants and bars. I'd 100% book Murray Premises when back in St. Johns.
This is the second time now we have stayed here. The rooms are beautiful and everyone of the staff that we encountered was amazing and very friendly. The location is perfect, walking distance of several restaurants and pubs. Definitely would recommend this place.
We had originally booked for 4 nights, but missed out on 1 night's stay because of a flight cancellation due to fog. As soon as I was aware of the situation, I called their reception desk and was extremely grateful that not only were they going to hold our reservation, they weren't going to charge us for the 4th night! Truly exceptional! The hotel used to be an old warehouse so the layout is a bit out of the ordinary. Our room was on the 4th floor, but the elevator only went up to the 3rd. So we climbed the stairs to the 4th and found our room was waaay down the hall. But the room was huge. The entire 4th floor had rooms with dormer windows, adding so much character to the room along with the sloping rafters. The location was perfect - easy walking distance to anything in the downtown core. It's a great hotel with a great location and would come back any time!…
Very charming, old style (but well maintained) hotel. If you're looking for flashy and new, or your standard lay out travel hotel, it may not be for you. In this case, a dated look adds to the warmth and charm as it's a throw back to century old inns. Each room has a unique lay out with exposed wood and interesting angles. Friendly staff, decent breakfast of breads, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, coffee. They also leave coffee and granola bars out for travellers throughout the day. Perfect location around the corner to the city's entertainment district so you can just park your car at the hotel and walk around. Signal Hill is about a 10 minute drive and Cape Spear is about 20 minutes.
This hotel is unique in that it is a converted old waterfront warehouse. On the plus side, - the location is hard to beat, steps away from the waterfront and just around the corner from the George Street entertainment district, local shops and restaurants, etc - the breakfast provided with the room was quite good (no hot dishes) with coffee, pastries, juices, health bars, etc - the front desk staff were very friendly On the negative side, - the room key cards were very erratic; we had to get one or both cards renewed practically daily - the elevator was unsettling to ride, with faulty floor buttons and an expired permit - room cleanup was slow; we had to call for house maintenance at 2 pm after being out for several hours and returning to find bed unmade, no clean towels, etc Overall, we would recommend this hotel to travellers looking for a central location.…
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Murray Premises recently. I wanted an authentic place to stay in such a beautiful city rather than the square glass hotels that were also available. Being a block away from popular Water Street was convenient except for the one night where the nearby band was so loud that (even with earplugs) I couldn't sleep until after 1:00 AM when they finally finished. If staying on a Saturday, I'd suggest getting a room away from the courtyard. The solid construction of the building with the visible old rough-hewn beams was comfortable. The check-in staff knew their jobs well, but weren't very helpful with questions about visiting the area. The manager, however was very helpful. Breakfast pastries and drinks were very good and welcome too. The courtyard/bar area was a nice place to have breakfast, but could have been cleaner and kept up a little better. Hint for visitors: getting around to the beautiful places like Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi and Cape Spear was difficult by taxi and involved a lot of waiting even after calls. A better solution is the Hop on-hop off bus. The cost is $45 for two days of rides to all of the good destinations. Thanks, Murray Premises!…
You can't beat the location of this hotel. We did not require any transportation and were able to walk everywhere. Yes, it is dated and the elevator was a tad scary. Our positives were the friendly staff, great continental breakfast and location. Close to restaurants, the working harbour and busy pedestrian streets. Would recommend for the price.
We called the hotel directly to book a signature king room but after talking to the reservation desk we were told most of the signature kings did not have harbour front but the executive kings did so we decided to go for the higher priced executive king suite. When we arrived our suite had a parking lot view. I asked the front desk if it would be possible to switch to a Harbour view where I was met by who I’m assuming was the manager on duty, a man with no name tag, came out from the back and was immediately annoyed by my request. After an uncomfortable few minutes he was able to find us a Harbour front room which was disappointing as there is actually no Harbour front views at this hotel, the view is blocked by a building. Our fireplace didn’t work, the lady at the front desk did try to get it to work but was unsuccessful. The “ Complimentary Deluxe Continental Breakfast” was actually just fruit and muffins, juice and coffee. which was disappointing. All in all the hotel is nice, but the staff was undertrained, the manager was rude, the advertised “Harbour views” are non-existent and don’t expect much from your “ Complimentary Deluxe Continental Breakfast”.…
great location, close to the water, restaurants, bars and pubs. Free parking especially with tourists trying to get downtown for night-time activities. A few short comings, couldn't get a working TV remote for the 3 days there, only ONE Keurig coffee machine for the entire hotel at breakfast, some of the quaint is now old.
