Detailed Reviews
I stayed at the grandiose Super 8 hotel during the record breaking storm for about five nights and i must say the stay was absolutely impeccable. Everyone was so friendly and they went out of their way to provide the stranded guests with food and drinks for the duration of the storm as everything was closed . Management went further to lower the rate for the additional nights that caught many guests unaware. This is a true example of Newfoundland spirit and i'm glad to have experienced it here and i would not have wanted to stay anywhere else. The Hotel was also kept clean during the storm regardless of the shortage of staff.
A sincere thank you and well done to the staff namely Cassie,Tino, Mike and Coleen (the manager). I would definitely stay here again and if you ever find yourself in St John's, Super8 will be worth a stay!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with valued feedback on your recent experience with us. I am glad you had an enjoyable stay, in spite of being stranded for a few extra days. It was an interesting and unexpected situation for everybody and I am happy that, although very short-staffed, we were able to keep the hotel clean and go above and beyond for our guests. Kindest regards, Alex Caldana General Manager Super 8 by Wyndham St. John's

First impressions: It seemed as if they were living in 2021 with the covid protocols that were in place. You needed to register for the pool, ask for what you wanted for breakfast and they cleaned the rooms every 4 days (they blamed it on covid).
The highlight of the breakfast was the tea biscuits they were soft and yummy. The breakfast had a small amount of items, with only pancakes and hard boiled eggs being the main meals. There are no hot meats (bacon, sausage, etc).
The pool was nice and the waterslide was the highlight of the stay but the hottub was closed. When we asked how long the hottub had been closed for, they replied with "over 2 years". If not fixed soon, for God Sake, take it off the website as people like me may have booked here for that.
The beds were amazing and the comforters were big enough for 4 people. The bathroom was small and there wasn't enough room to move around in. Every member of staff was friendly and welcoming even giving us new keys to get back in our rooms after leaving items.

Thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us. With a small note regarding our hot tub, yes it has been out of order for awhile waiting repair. Unfortunately, not un like a lot of business. we too are waiting for the repair man to have time for us. We certainly hope it will be soon. The summer proved that the world is getting back to normal and so will the hotel. Thank you again and we hope to see you again. Have a super Day!

I’ve stayed at the Super 8 many many times and have always enjoyed my stay. Breakfast has always been decent and rooms clean and comfy. The room being clean would be my main concern and I’m never disappointed in cleanliness here. What I’m most disappointed with this time around is parking. The hotel obviously can’t accommodate guests’ vehicles when the hotel is at its capacity. We should not be expected to have to park in the parking lot next to/behind the hotel when there is no pathway to get to the hotel safely. There is currently a transport truck in the parking lot that is towing two other trucks... but the worst of it is bad snow clearing. There’s parking spaces half cleared out. Whoever does the snow clearing did a poor job. I know the city was recently hit with a large pile of snow but if you’re running a business you have to keep your customers and their safety in mind. Great staff, decent breakfast and clean rooms... however do something about the parking lot. Do better Super 8 St. John’s!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your stay. I am glad you have always had a positive experience with us, enjoying our complimentary breakfast and clean rooms. My sincere apologies about the parking situation this last weekend. Some guests indeed had to use the overflow parking lot adjacent to the hotel. Winter in St. John's is not always forgiving, unfortunately, and this year we experience record-breaking snowfall, making it difficult for all parking spots to be completely clear. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Regards, Alex Caldana General Manager Super 8 by Wyndham St. John's

My family and I had booked 3 rooms for New Years Eve.
We went out for dinner upin returning our key cards would not work.
So what turned into what should have been a simple fix turned into the worst customer service from the front dest attentent I had ever recieved.
The employee told me that I should not have been given the room as the lock did not work on the door.
All of our personal belongings were in the room and at 11:55pm tells me my family woukd have to wait in the lobby till he calls his manager to see what he could do.
5 min till the new year we went to our family and rang in the new year. 12:03 i figured it was enough time for him to have this figured out. My son came to find me as I was going to the lobby to address him and tells me our room door is open.
So as to my surprise when speaking to the employee he tells me that he had no time to go look for me to tell me he got it opened he doesnt have time. Last I checked there was a contact number when I booked the room left on file. Then tells me move your stuff to another room. But to leave my room door open with our personal belongings in there was not acceptable. This employee was very rude. Time to teach him how to speak to a customer!!! I have emailed the hotel manager directly but no response!!! Stay away from room 504 key cards dont work and the employee will pop the lock without the customer with them!!
Very pissed off customer!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some valued feedback. Further to our email correspondence, I would like to, once again, offer my sincere apologies for the issues with your guest room lock. These are typically solved very quickly but that particular lock has a different mechanism, which took our front desk agent longer to resolve. A few minutes later, when it was fixed, he could not find you and made the decision to leave the door unlocked until your return, with the concern it would lock again if shut. I have spoken to him about that and completely understand your security concerns, particularly with your belongings left in the room. I am glad we were able to move you to another room right away and I am very sorry if his tone was perceived as rude or short. Kindest regards, Alex Caldana General Manager Super 8 by Wyndham St. John's

This 4 storey older hotel truely rate a 2.5 star. It's reasonably close to the airport and the cost per night is fair. Being an older wood structured building you will hear the creaking floors of people walking around. All doors slam with a jarring noise as they don't have soft closers. The pool at the deepest is 4', making it a bit shallow for adults, but I think the pool was designed for kids with their families. The water temperature could be a little warmer.
Upon checking you are warned of the current construction, but it didn't impact us. You are also told about the room service policy of service once every 3 days, although it was 4 for us. This isn't advertised anywhere.
We were on the 2nd floor facing the parking lot. No noise issue there, but when the dope smokers are out the fumes get sucked into the room by the a/c unit. Being non-smokers this was an unpleasant experience, especially being wakened up by it at 2:30 in the morning.
Tims, DQ, local pizza, nachos and other small shops are steps away from the hotel.
We found all staff to be friendly and accomodating. Like many in the service industry they sometimes have that "no hope" look, but that's just a sign of the times. The Super 8 staff put on a brave face and do their work.
Breakfast was limited to one or two fruits, cold cereal, pankaces and tea buscuits with coffee, tea, orage and apple juice. No real issue here. We were fed and we were happy.
Overall a clean and confortabel place that won't cost an arm and a leg. If you want more then pay more, but we were ok here.
We had no billing issues. Check in and out was simple and quick exercise.

The beds were lumpy and very uncomfortable. The pillows were like duffle bags. there was little room for movement in the room for more than one person at a time. The bathroom had had repairs completed but was in poor condition. There was tile grout missing between several floor tiles. There were cracks in the plaster in around the bathtub area. The caulking was cracking between the tub walls and the bath walls. The bathroom ceiling had repair work completed and had been painted a cream color when the rest of the ceiling was white. The best part of the stay was the pool for the kids. At $200.00 a night I am sure I could have found somewhere else more worth the money.
Definitely overpriced !!!!!!

Overall not a great experience, I wasn’t expecting the Ritz for the price I paid, but I was expecting the basics. They are very stingy with toilet paper and towels.. 2 sets of towels and a half roll of TP is not enough for 4 people in a room for 2 nights! Also be prepared to have patience if you wish to use the pool as you need to book a time and wait and hope the over worked staff member shows up to let you in as you cannot access yourself, maybe COVID related but a silly set up in my opinion

This was a terrible hotel to stay with my family . Front staff were not friendly or helpful. Asked about mask policy as we had children with us and people were walking around the hotel without them on and the young girl slowly pulls her up over her face. We asked to book the pool for our family of 6 and 15 other people were in there with us screaming and nearly cut my son in half coming off the slide. We were never told about the pool having to be booked with other rooms . Also 15 people in there was way too many as the pool is no bigger then a clorified bath tub . Very dissatisfied with our stay . Hope you hire some people with customer service skills because the ones you have behind the desk have none. Very rude and ignorant. Wanted to leave that evening after we checked in only for it was paid for in advance we would of. Will never go here again .

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you did not have an enjoyable stay with us. As per NL Health Guidelines all staff wear face coverings during their shifts. Only removed while eating or drinking. However, at the Front Desk, employee's masks can be removed for a breather when no one around as they are behind plexiglass. We are sorry there was a miss understanding regarding your pool time. As noted at the Front Desk when you check in we are allowed by NL Public Heath up to 4 rooms at a time as per square footage of the pool area. This gives our guests a better chance to avail of the pool during their stay. We apologize for the lack of communication from our front desk staff which came across as being unfriendly. I assure you that was not our intention. Again my sincere apologies you did not enjoy your stay with us. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate in contacting me during business hours Monday to Friday.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property and your recent stay with us. I am sorry you have experienced so many issues during your stay and we are certainly investigating them in order to prevent future occurrences. We have not had a bug in the hotel since she summer when a small cricket sneaked in from the grass outside. Bugs in St. John's in the middle of the winter are hard to find and we have completely stripped your room and not found anything. My apologies for the noise you have experienced as well. The rooms adjacent to yours were both vacant on the night you stayed with us. But, regardless, we would have certainly addressed the noise concerns immediately, had it been brought up to our knowledge. And I very sorry you did not enjoy the food served at breakfast. We typically get very positive comments about but I understand that people have different tastes and preferences. Kindest regards, Alex Caldana General Manager Super 8 by Wyndham St. John's
