We stayed at this hip boutique hotel on our first night in Newfoundland. It was so good we booked it again for our last night on The Rock! The decor in each room is unique (we tried out 2 different rooms) and edgy with lots of exposed brickwork and cool furnishings. The proprietors and staff are very welcoming and helpful. We had beers in the pub and some laughs with our server over the Dildo Beer. We also enjoyed two excellent breakfasts of delicious omelettes and hash browns. The location is perfect for exploring St. John’s and only steps away from the entertainment centre of George Street where you have to go to get screeched in. Blue on Water is one of those “good vibe” places we would highly recommend.

I'm lucky to travel all over Canada for work and part of that is eating at establishments . My go to neal is Eggs Benny. The Eggs Benny here is by far the best I've had, the Eggs were perfect, the sauce was perfect, and not swimming with it. This will be my go to place for breakfast when in St John's.

Arriving on a busy Saturday afternoon, we were surprised to find that rather than staying in a hotel with a bar, we were staying in a bar with a hotel. With no front desk, we were signed in by a bartender more interested in making cocktails than helping us complete paperwork on sticky bar full of spilled beer.

Our deluxe “suite” was neither. I guess placing two chairs and a stained ottoman in a corner of the room makes it a suite. Dunno? There were various pieces of worn mismatched furniture, none of which was a dresser. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint and the fancy shower had 7 shower heads but only one worked.

On the plus side, the room, at the back of the hotel was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Also, the location can’t be beat. That said, there were other hotels in the area where we’d stay if we visit St John’s again. Take our advice and do the same.

St. John's was quite booked up when we were looking for accommodations on this trip (Come Home Year = no room at most inns...), and we feel quite fortunate to have stumbled upon this hotel. The hotel is centrally located, and we were greeted in a friendly fashion and checked in by Sully (I believe he's the owner) at the bar downstairs.

Our room (deluxe double) was beautiful, large, and reasonably priced. You have to let yourself in and out of the hotel with a key after hours, but there is a security guard onsite. We're glad he was there when we arrived late one evening, as there was a sleeveen hanging around outside who approached us and made us uncomfortable. The security guard saw us messing with our keys at the door and let us in, so just make sure you test your keys before you leave so you know which one is for the outside hotel door and you don't have to fumble when you arrive back after hours.

This was a great hotel and we would stay there again.

What a great hotel and bar and restaurant!! We were 4 couples (cousins and our spouses) in our late ‘50’s. First timers to the Rock! We stayed 4 nights at this boutique hotel and met Sully and the amazing crew. Breakfasts were delicious every morning! We had 10:00 am breakfasts - I believe the kitchen opens at 9. We also had a late night Creme Brûlée snack which was voted best dessert by our group. One of our group fractured her ankle on our first day and the Hostel staff were beyond incredible in helping out. Sully rescued us (ie came himself and picked us up when we called the hotel for a referral for a taxi service) at the tourist sight where the injury occurred and he personally picked up a pair of crutches at his brothers house to loan us !!!!! Our rooms were lovely and unique and quiet. The hotel is in the middle of all the action so the quiet rooms were a huge bonus. One of us had the double Queen room - it became the meet up room. Amazing space and an amazing bathroom space!! The bar part of the hotel was always buzzing and popular ! All the staff were super friendly and helpful and went out of their way with our fractured ankle situation. There were crutches involved and a wheelchair. The kitchen stepped up for late night meals, wine and even ankle fracture help after a day and night in the emergency department ! Our group would highly recommend this hotel!! Note: when checking in, you check in at the bar. LOL - that set the fun tone for the trip !!

Comfortable little boutique hotel. Restaurant/bar downstairs is quite good. You will hear noise from the bar below and the other restaurants/bars on the street - if you want a quiet room, this may not be for you. The bath was large and very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is available - not included in the price of your room - atop a parking garage down the street. It’s a bit of a hassle but not unreasonable, given the downtown location. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed 4 nights for a conference and it was great! Easy walking distance to the convention centre, surrounded by pubs and high end restaurants ( great pub & restaurant in the hotel as well) directly across from a shortcut to George Street. The room was very large, with a living room area that has a view of St John’s, an incredible bathroom with big freestanding soaker tub & walk in shower. Don’t pass this one up, you won’t be disappointed. Note there is no elevator, but a lift is available if required.

Our first night of our 2 week Newfoundland adventure was spent at Blue on Water. It was an auspicious start.

A lovely young man at the bar checked us in, explained parking( not on premises but close by), and dealt with our bags. The room, though not overly large, was attractive and well kitted out. Nice large closet, bathroom with separate shower and tub, and nice toiletries. The linens and pillows were excellent.

The real star was the restaurant. Though we'd made a prior reservation, we were surprised at how busy it was on a Monday night. Dinner was superb. Our lovely server suggested a good wine from Nova Scotia to accompany mussels, chowder and salmon and cod specials.

We enjoyed a filling breakfast the next morning and chatted with the very pleasant Natalie who gave us some great suggestions for future meals as well as ideas for shopping. Her recommendations were excellent and we were able to purchase some lovely handcrafted gifts.

Highly recommend hotel and restaurant.

A lovely restaurant that currently is experiencing water main and sewer replacements, so the whole road is torn up. After getting out and walking carefully to the restaurant, we went downstairs to their private event room. Each of us were allow to chose an appetizer, entre and dessert from a set menu. The service was great and the food descent, as when it arrived, the dish were cool rather than hot. No cell service in the basement where the private room was located.

Loved this affordable luxury boutique hotel! Even better that it is centrally located in downtown St. Johns. Access to free parking and shops nearby, close to popular tourist destinations like Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi. The amazing bar/resto downstairs is an added bonus. Highly recommend this place but suggest making reservations well in advance since rooms can fill up quickly during busy season.

I'm not sure about all the rooms but ours had a bathroom that was huge. It had a walk in shower and a large bathtub. The room we were in was at the very back of the building. It was probably 600 square feet in total. Hope this helps. Sandra
