The room was accessible through the courtyard. A reduced rate for medical appointments. Very quiet. Had to take a room with two doubles due to short notice booking, however, they were able to accommodate us. Staff very pleasant and friendly, especially the person who served us in the pub.

We had a quaint stay at The Guv’nor. It had all the amenities and benefits one would expect from a three star inn. If a clean place to sleep and a washroom is all you’re looking for, and at an affordable price, this is a great choice. A plus is the fine Guv’nor Pub connected to the inn.

We were there around late Oct, early Nov for a few nights. We checked prices on line at hotel discount websites and found a better price by calling the hotel directly. The hotel's web site would not allow me to book a room. Staff were not sure why.

Upon arrival we noticed another room rate special listed on the menu. We asked for it and got it.

The carpet leading to our room was stained and there was an off odour lingering in the air. Other rooms had an exterior motel-type entrance which is convenient but the paint was peeling from many of those doors.

The beds in our room was very comfortable and provided a great sleep. Room had a microwave and bar fridge. We also got free breakfasts with the room rate special we discovered.

The hotel's pub carpeting and seating felt like they needed a good steam cleaning because of stains and an icky feeling you get when sitting down. The paint and varnish is worn on many surfaces.

Staff were friendly. Service was prompt. Food was good.

Some staff on front desk and in the pub wore jeans that looked untidy as if they had been worn all week.

Hotel is conveniently located. There's a gas station with convenience store nearby. Bank across the street. Pizza take-out not far.

Overall a good stay but the hotel needs to upgrade and to get out the steam cleaner. Some staff need to put on clean, pressed clothes before coming to work.

Nothing at all like the website pictures led me to believe when I booked. When we arrived at the inn, the front of the building was appealing. The lobby was similar and the front desk attendant was friendly. When we went into the “courtyard” to where our room was it is a motel. No worries, however once we went into our room it had a musty odour and was less than clean. The most concerning thing though was the blood on the floor in bathroom. When I told the lady at the front desk she was apologetic and said the cleaning person was new and offered us another room and a discount. Still a concern however, I agreed to look at the other room. When we went to that room when we closed the door, the dead bolt system was loose and not functioning. And again the room was dirty. We decided to leave and find other accommodations. The desk attendant was understanding and I was refunded our money which was a positive. As well as the above mentioned room conditions there was a small group of people huddled in a corner of the parking lot and an odour of marijuana and I witnessed someone vomit in the parking lot.
We did not see the pub or rooms in the main building so can not comment on those.

I was disappointed that my room smelled of old smoke. When I showered the smell got stronger. It was something I could overlook but it was always there. That was until someone moved into room 102 next door. Apparently the room next door is a smoking room. There seemed to be people having drinks and smoking until 1 am on my last night there. The smoke travelled into my room and every half an hour I had to open my door, to get fresh air and let the strong smoke smell out.

My opinion, there should not be rooms to smoke in. It affects the person next door and there is a worry that there might be a fire if overly intoxicated and careless. This was my worst night in a hotel room to date. As the only wheel chair accessible room, you are forced to put up with the smoke. This is unacceptable.

The pros: super good price reception was really nice and let us check in 3 hours early. Tv had lots of channels and the beds were comfortable.

Unfortunately the cons are too many to overcome: the halls have an odd musty smell, the back parking lot is sketchy looking, there is an audible and constant humming sound (I Think from utility room down the hall), and everything in hotel seems dated.

I suspect this hotel was really nice 25 years ago. Too bad. But unless your number one priority is price, I think it's worth it to pay a bit more for something nicer.

The hotel is a real gem with a lot going for it. The rooms are a nice size and the whole hotel is kept quite clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful and having the affiliated pub next door - which serves excellent food - is a real plus. While not downtown by any means it is close enough by bus or taxi. I walked to the harbour front and it took about 30 minutes.

Its a dump in a very bad part of St Johns. Avoid this hotel completely.
Food in bar was awful. Window screen was slashed, shower was broken and rough looking people were milling around outside all night. We didn't feel safe and left as soon as we could in the morning

We were extremely disappointed! Small, dingy room, loud air conditioner and windows wouldn't open. The pub was supposed to be open until midnight but was closed an hour early and the desk staff didn't know. Desk staff very unhelpful, keys didn't work, directions unclear. We recommend that you avoid it. Not even close to being worth the money.

I would rate this hotel a big fat 0!!!! Upon arriving at 4:00pm, we were told that our room was not ready, we asked how long until it would be ready, the front desk clerk replied, half hour. We were kind of disappointed that we had to wait for the room but we were from out of town and decided to wait the half hour, well the half hour turned into 2 and a half hours, we checked with the front desk clerk several times and she was very rude, not sympatatic at all for the Inconvienence for the wait, it kinna made me think, hey we want your buisness but we are not prepared or neither care about your needs so after that red flag, we finally got into our room at 6:30 pm tired and hot. Our plans for the night was delayed due to the wait, our fridge was leaking water all over the floor and soaked some of our bags with our belongings in them. When we finally did go out and returned at aprox 2:00am, we pulled out the foldaway because there were 3 of us in which I had a booking for 3 adults, one double bed and one foldaway, the front desk girl had full understanding of the booking. When I pulled the foldaway out, there was garbage and crumbs all over the bed, needless to say nobody slept in that foldaway, so all 3 of us slept in the double bed, needless to say not a comfortable sleep. We tried to reach the manager several times but no luck!! I will never book at that hotel ever again!!! Instead of trying to make our stay a good one, they did everything to make it a nightmare!!! Lack of compassion from evening clerk, night clerk was friendly but our situation was not being taken seriously, the night clerk told me that the foldaway had been discontinued AFTER I booked, Really!!! And nobody cared enought to call me back after my booking to confirm that!!!! I have stayed in cheaper hotels with great service and cleaner rooms and would have that night if anything was available, I was also told that management would call me about my complaints, quess what? NO CALL!!! The only one good thing was the server at the restaurant in the morning, he took our complaints very seriously and offered us a complamantary breakfast which was great until one of us found a hair in our breakfast. So overall bad night, bad stay, have nothing good to say about the gov inn!!!!
