My partner and I stayed here a couple weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. The hosts were very kind and thoughtful, the rooms were quaint and clean, and the food was delicious! One evening while we were sitting in the living room, the hostess came out to bring us a big bowl of pistachios! The breakfast was by far the best part! Every morning was something different and equally delicious. We ate German sweet rolls, fresh fruit parfait, eggs Florentine and more! To top it all off, the wi-fi was fast and there was parking in the driveway. The house is a 5 min drive or 15 min walk to downtown Sydney. We also felt very safe and everything was evidently sanitized regularly and between guests. The hosts always wore masks, and breakfasts were spaced out between guests. They did a great job at accommodating their business to function well during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will definitely stay at Colby house the next time we go back to Sydney and highly recommend it to everyone!…
I stayed here for four nights. Every hot breakfast was delicious. The room was beautiful and the bed extra comfortable. I was encouraged to relax in the evenings in the very grand living room space. It is a comfortable walk to downtown, but I'd encourage the short drive to Olive Tree restaurant -- make a reservation first! Colby House's price was extremely reasonable and Ulrich and Birgit were ideal hosts. A perfect get away for those able to travel to Sydney now, or for anyone when we can travel more freely.
Our hostess couldn't have been nicer, and the inn is beautifully decorated. Very neat and clean, fresh flowers abound. Our room was quite comfortable (with a window air condition), but we slept with the window open for fresh air. Breakfast was a multi-course delight that included fresh fruit and pancakes. I happened to leave a nightgown behind, and Beverly emailed to let me know; it was waiting for me when we got back home!
We stayed here one night while visiting Cape Breton. We were in the MacLellan room a comfortable room with all you needed. Eggs Florentine for breakfast were delicious and nice bran muffins. Gordon was very knowledgeable on all the history of the area Bev was a lovely hostess with great suggestions for dinner. handy location for a stroll to the fiddle and places to eat.
A very nicely furnished period house with large rooms. A very warm and helpful welcome from Bev, the hostess. Tea and coffee available whenever you want. Good breakfast, we had eggs florentine. Parking on site. It's in a nice residential area about 20 minutes walk from the water's edge. Helpful recommendations on where to eat.
