Langdon Hall offers a quiet and peaceful environment best suited for romantic get-aways that require an elegant setting. As a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux association, the property prides itself on creating a unique experience brimming with all the charm, character, cuisine, calm and courtesy you would find at the finest Relais & Chateaux property. Located one hour west of Toronto, Langdon Hall was built as a magnificent summer home in 1898 for the granddaughter of John Jacob Astor of New York City, a gentlemen who made his fortune in several areas of business including the Waldorf Astoria, the greatest hotel of its era. In 1987 Langdon Hall began its transformation into a hotel and now offers 60 guest suites, a full service spa, the only five-diamond award wining restaurant in Ontario. In addition to the main dining room the property features a casual bar and private dining rooms featuring wood-burning fireplaces, and 75 acres of expansive gardens and trails. For three consecutive years the readers of Conde Nast Traveller selected Langdon Hall as the number one hotel in Canada. Nearby amenities include championship style golf course, canoeing, theatre, horseback riding, biking and hiking.

This was our second stay at Langdon Hall during “the COVID Era,” and somewhere close to our 20th over the years. On our previous visit, I was a little disappointed and felt the experience was…diminished. But this most recent visit showed Langdon Hall operating near the top of its game again.

We were originally scheduled to spend three nights over the Canada Day holiday, but the weather forecast was so brutal (rain, rain, rain) that we shortened it to two nights. This actually worked out well, as indoor dining had not yet resumed, and the novelty of eating every meal in your room wears off rather quickly, even though they do their best to make it feel special.

We reserved our favourite summer room (a Cloisters queen with terrace, to be able to sit outside for an evening cocktail or morning coffee). The room (#16) was in great condition, save for a stained rug in the living area and a crack in the glass of one of the French doors. And for some reason, the closet doors had been removed, which we found…odd. It’s a darker room, but we like that it provides a cool, cave-like sanctuary from the summer heat. A small dining table and two chairs, beautifully set with linen, crystal, cutlery, and flowers, was set up in front of the fireplace. We had dinner there one night and breakfast one morning.

The quality of the food and drinks at Langdon Hall continues to be exceptional. In fact, as I write this review, I am at another Relais and Chateaux property in Quebec. It’s a lovely place, but the food and drinks here are eclipsed by the creations of chef Jason Bangerter and his team, and mixologist Aaron Hatchell and his crew.

There are just a few suggestions for improvement. The pool menu is a little too limited. I’d like to see more options available for snacks and lunch. Also, this is the second visit in a row where there has been no welcome amenity from the kitchen, no turndown service, and no San Pellegrino sodas in the refrigerator. The rates have gone up yet again, so Langdon Hall cannot afford to cut back on the little luxuries its loyal long term guests have come to appreciate.

Regardless, we’ve already booked our next stay. Langdon Hall remains unrivalled in Ontario!

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband for our 20th Anniversay July 2021. We stayed in cloister room 17. It was a lovely room with a walk out to a little seating area. It also had a wood buring firplace. Make sure you ask for some kindling if you plan to start the fire yourself or you can have someone come to the room to do it for you. The bathroom is large with vanity/ sink and a seperate tub and shower. There is also a completely seperate room with a toilet/sink. they have dyson hair dryers. The large tv swivels so you can watch it from the two arm chairs or the bed. There wwere some complimentary fresh coffee cakes/ bottles of water in the room upon arrival as well as robes for you to use. Keep in mind to access these rooms you have to decend stairs.
We got a package that included dinner and breakfast for two. I believe the additional cost for the meals was $300 ( which included the tip for the meals) The dinner came with your choice of app entree and dessert. They also served bread, an amuse bouche and petit fours. The beakfast came with a croissant, entree , non alcoholic beverages and side - for a sode I got pemale bacon and there were 5 pieces. This is definitely fine dining. The utensils are real silver. I had the corn risotto which was delicious. The maple bacon at breakfast was also great. Keep in mind the scallop dish is served cold with poached scallops. There are some great outdoor seating areas by a pond and the outdoor terrace for dining in under an amazing tree. They have walking trails , croquet, horseshoes, free bike rental and a pool for recreation. It was a nice get away

With the ongoing pandemic and restrictions on travel, a short get-away close to the city was the closest I can get to travelling. I chose LH, and have now done so twice. Their strength is their service and high-end food, along with beautifully kept grounds. With the pandemic many services were not available (gym, most spa service, etc) but still relaxing nonetheless.

For the second trip I upgraded to a Terrace room in the Stables, but the room is not as newly upgraded as the Cloister ones I stayed at the last time. The furnishings were old, carpet stained, and the backyard close to main road and noisy, and most of all, NOT private as neighboring rooms share the same space. In addition the bathroom is smaller, and the walk-in shower was tiny. I'm not a big guy and I kept hitting the wall. There were also spiders and cobwebs on the window sill right above the toilet, which has a winder right by the entry door to the next room!!!! So make sure the blinds are down! For higher price I would not recommend this room.

Another 2 small details:

1)the pool menu is very limited, and its strange that they are not willing to let you order from the main hall menu (they deliver food to rooms, so why not to the pool??).
2) I have now tried twice to take a walk through the trails, and while I may be more directionally challenged than others, I've gotten lost both times. There are next to no markings, and certainly none right out of the gate at the main sign that signals the start of the multiple trails. During the pandemic this was one of the few activities one could do (besides lounging by the pool) so I hope they spend some time improving this. It costs next to nothing (some strategically placed color ribbon matching the trail, simple signs, or even just some paint on the trees!!. )

Overall still a great getaway to relax form crazy difficult pandemic zoom work schedule enjoying great wine and food, but for the price point these small improvements should be easily done.

I really enjoy coming here, but the place is not being taken care of. To have the rooms in this appalling shape is crazy. Rooms that cost $500 plus a night should be spotless and in perfect shape. I really hope this sends a strong message to LH that they need to clean up their rooms and stop taking advantage of their clients. Either clean up your rooms or lower your prices. Dinner was good, but we were rushed out at breakfast. The waitress told us several times to get what food we want from the buffet because she was closing if down. First of all, there were at least 25 people in the dining room. In my opinion the food should stay out until everyone is satisfied. We all literally had to go up and fill a couple of plates each because they were packing up. It cheapened and ruined our dining experience. Breakfast is $28, So you would think you would be able to enjoy your meal without being rushed by the server.

I’ve been in spring and late summer, both times offered unique experiences. The ever changing menu, which is heavily dictated by their on site gardens, is so delicious! They offer an extensive wine list, with prices ranging from $100-4k, something for everyone, we had wine with dinner and champs in the room. The Sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and also offered a great dessert cheese pairing.

On this trip we had warm enough weather to sit poolside, and sip on mixed drinks and nibble at the food there. One thing I will say, as my only critique is please get better beer selection, pool offered basics corona, Stella and steam whistle. Would have loved the option of some delicious craft brew sours, IPAs or wheat beers!

The walking/biking trails are awesome, highly recommended! Also you can bring your dog, which is awesome!

Shoutout to Jacob for dog sitting, lovely guy, and our pooch slept like a baby after his 4K walk.

Special thanks to Evan, who is currently enrolled in the Manager in Training program, his charisma and enthusiasm for his job really shows. He’s passionate and has a great personality.

We look forward to returning again!

I stayed for 2 nights with a friend. The room was very comfortable, we enjoyed having the wood burning fireplace and comfortable sitting area. A bonus for friends staying together - there is a room with a sink/tub/shower and a separate room with a toilet and sink so we had ample room to get ready in the morning. Beds were comfortable. They prep the fire for you, you simply need to light it.

The service was excellent. My friend was celebrating her birthday and they had pastries in the room on our arrival, they comped her glass of prosecco at dinner the first night, and she received a birthday card at dinner.

Dinner was excellent both nights, the apps and entrees we had were very generous portions, as was dessert. The wine list is extensive but at high price points for most wines, especially reds. Breakfast is very generous and was very good, I'm not sure if it's always ordering from a menu or if this was due to covid. The lobster eggs were outstanding. My friend is a pastry chef and she said the croissants were excellent.

Spa services were very good and priced as I would expect at a venue like this.

Overall excellent experience which I would expect at this price point. I would recommend the package which includes breakfast and dinner. I would return.

We were very excited to score a room for our wedding night. The visit did not give us the 'luxury feeling' we hoped for. The staff did not go the extra 1% to acknowledge our exciting life event, offer a warm welcome, a round of drinks on the house, or a tour of the property. We both work with luxury brands in our jobs and have stayed at many hotels around the world - I think Langdon Hall definitely has some room for opportunity.

Our room was not easy to find, and when we finally got in, there were some almond croissants with a typed out welcome note, which we learned every guest gets. Sadly, my husband has a nut allergy, and this treat was not ideal. The staff could have checked with us in advance about allergies.

We also asked about a late check-out in advance, considering that we wanted to have a longer sleep after a late night reception party. Our request was not honoured on-site, with a cold and standard ' sorry we cannot offer it'.

The highlights: the room was great and bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom products high quality, so no complaints there at all.

The pool area is also great! We lounged by the pool the next morning and had lunch there, got excellent service! We also walked around the property, and it is definitely beautiful and has lots to offer.

All in all, I am not sure that it was worth the $600 we spent on one night, but since it was our special night we considered this a wedding gift to us.

Overall Langdon Hall was a lovely place to visit but there was one incident that really put a sour note on my stay. First, the room was clean and decorated in a very traditional style fitting the time period of the house. The service was very good and the food was delicious and nicely presented. As an avid gardener myself, the grounds could have been better maintained, flower-beds should be more pristine looking reflecting a true county garden given the natural setting. Next was the worst experience I have ever encountered in all my travels. It was over 30 degrees outside so my husband and I decided to go to the pool only to be told that our 3 hrs were up! People were asked by the young servers to leave so other patrons could use the pool. Ok I get it other guests want to use the pool too... I was told there is a 'waiting list' to use the pool facility when it is busy, but wolfing down our expensive burger to make way for others was ridiculous and the way we were told to get up and leave could have been handled better, perhaps with more professionalism by the staff?! As a result, we felt very rushed and quite annoyed. Some other guests were questioning the manager on the removal process as well. Funny though, on Sunday the pool was also very busy, but the manager must have been off that day and no one was asked to leave! This was very frustrating and just about ruined our stay. I spoke to the manager and after paying A LOT of money to use the premises, all I got was an apology. That will NOT do when paying such high prices at Langdon Hall. I expected better. After this unfortunate incident we will try another hotel & spa next year. Maybe the new Elora Mill and Spa!

Another wonderful stay at Langdon Hall. This time we booked a stable terrace room with an outdoor sitting area, rather than a Cloister room. We much preferred the stable room as it was larger and very nicely laid out. We would have preferred a king instead of the smaller queen sized bed. Covid precautions were seriously taken by everyone and we felt very safe, during our stay.
We enjoyed the excellent service from everyone (kudos to Ally at the pool). When we ordered room service for lunch on our patio, it quickly arrived and we ate excellent fish/chips and tomato salad. Lunch (and a few drinks) at the pool were excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. All breakfasts and dinners (especially the halibut and the lamb) were absolutely wonderful in looks, taste and expertly served.
The wine list looks absolutely a connoisseurs dream, although very pricy. One night it took three bottles of older reds to be opened, before getting a very nice premiere cru that was not oxidized. Another night, sitting beside the pond, we had an amazing 2010 chablis grand cru, that fit our special occasion beautifully. Excellent memorable evening from start to finish.
Hoping to return for my birthday in September, but unfortunately, they are completely sold out. Not unexpected for, in my opinion, one of, if not the best, hotel facility in Ontario. Not to mention, they are part of the Relais and Chateaux chain, which we frequent, when we can.

I booked a large suite so that my sister and I could meet up with my father and stepmother to celebrate my stepmother's 80th birthday. Since there no additional rooms available my sister and I planned to go and stay at her house that evening. The location seemed perfect because it was close enough to my elderly parents home that they could drive there but close enough to my sister's home in Toronto that we could drive home and get up for work in good time the next morning. I live at a distance and we were all looking forward to this get together as given COVID we haven't been together in over a year. It was to be a special little family gathering. Instead, Langdon Hall called me and told me that they are short staffed and that their kitchen would not be able to prepare two additional meals that evening as room service. They did not apologize or seem to care that they were disappointing an 88 and 80 year-old who might not have more such family gatherings in their future. This is not the Langdon Hall I remembered from past visits. They are short-staffed to the point of being completely insensitive.

To see their prices do a fake booking on their website. I recommend booking a package that includes dinner/breakfast/spa credit (we didn't do the spa). We did have spa services, facial was $225 + tax + tip. It's expensive but we really enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent, some would say they serve smaller portions.
