What a great find this hotel was! Our room was a good size, clean and tastefully decorated. It was great to have a kitchenette to prepare our lunch and make hot drinks. I appreciated the creamers in the fridge. Breakfast included several hot and cold offerings, good coffee and friendly staff. The hotel location was very close to the ByWard Market, in a quiet residential area. It was convenient too that there was on site parking. I would definitely stay here again!
This hotel is a great location for walking to attractions, ByWard market, Parliament Hill, Sparks St., War Memorial, etc. it’s literally a 1/2 block to the ByWard Market that has a lot of restaurants. My room was perfect once I figured out the portable air conditioning. They provide dishes a microwave, and a mini fridge, coffee maker in the room. The complimentary breakfast was a pleasant surprise as it offered many food options, eat in the dining room or eat in your room. I have never seen peameal bacon on a complimentary breakfast offering. I also liked the hard wood floors in the room as I’m not a fan of carpet. You can book a room with a balcony which I didn’t but would do so next time. I would definitely stay here again
Nice location for walking distance to bars and restaurants ,but beware of areas surrounding as there are many homeless nearby . Decent breakfast and clean.Parking I doors nearby not badly priced .nice staff
What a pleasant surprise! We thought we would try this smaller hotel as the location was excellent, the price was extremely reasonable, and the reviews were very good. We were not disappointed. The room is so well appointed, very clean, and bright. The kitchenette is well stocked - dishes, glasses, cutlery, sink, dish soap, kettle, teapot, microwave, coffee maker (and coffee), mini fridge/freezer (with a full ice cube tray, bottle of water, butter, creamers). There’s also a safe, ironing board, bathrobes, slippers. The bath towels were fluffy and bright white. Lots of windows and a balcony with a table and two chairs. Parking was literally steps away at only $15; on-site parking is limited but would also have been $15. We will definitely stay here again!
I stayed here for a few days for the Ottawa Tamarack marathon. It is a great little hotel! Perfect location, very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very clean and quiet, the bed is comfortable. My room had a little kitchenette with a microwave, mini fridge and dishes. The best part was the large patio to sit out and have breakfast while the city woke up. The included breakfast was very good and had a lot to offer. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Ottawa!
I like this style of hotel, I think of it like a 3-star hotel in Europe. Rooms are not huge and you can get one with two twin beds, instead of two queens/kings. Some rooms have a balcony and that was a real plus. There are a few parking spaces onsite (I think C$15/day) and a public parking lot close by. You are just down the street from a pedestrian friendly area with many, many restaurants. You can also walk 20 minutes to Parliament hill (there are free tours of the Senate and House of Commons) and less to the National Gallery of Canada (highly recommended). Breakfast buffet had hot options as well as continental. The place is not glitzy, it's comfortable.
Stayed here for three nights. Excellent staff with nothing to much trouble to help. Special thanks to the gentleman at reception for his help. Hotel could not be situated any better. Good selection at breakfast time - best croissants I had. Only minutes away from Byward Market which is the place to visit if you are looking for a huge variety of eating places to suit all budgets. Less than 15 minutes from parliament Hill. Foumnd Ottawa to be a great City to visit.
The hotel is very well located, in walking distance to all attractions in the city. This hotel was a recommendation from friends who had enjoyed their stay and our experience would reflect theirs also.
We were impressed by several thoughtful features of the hotel. Nice kitchenette area with real dishes and cutlery, not disposables. Grab bars installed in tub area. Pleasant balcony. Comfortable beds, air conditioning as required. Decent full breakfast, even including hot milk frother for coffee. Very conveniently located by Byward Market. Parking next door was only $15.
I have not been to Ottawa before, so I relied on reviews of places within this price range and a good location. As to the location, it is good, central to all of the iconic sites in Ottawa and the Byward market itself. The staff at the Byward Blue Inn is very accommodating . The housekeepers do a terrific job every day, including mopping the floors. So why only three green dots? The place needs a major overhaul. As I write this I am sitting next to a free standing air conditioner, the kind with a hose through the wall. Yes, it cools the room but it is loud. I required earplugs to fall asleep. They have a quiet in-wall unit in the lobby, why not the rooms? The room furnishings are one step above dorm room, two steps below Ikea. There is a six foot or so wood table with two regular chairs and a well-worn desk chair and a bed, and that is it. There are in-room conveniences, like a drip coffee maker, a kettle and a microwave in the room, along with dishes and flatware. The bed is comfortable enough. Towels are basic, but one is only given washcloths and bath towels, no hand towels. The property is well cleaned, but maintenance could be better, the bathroom sink and tub had chips in the finish. Breakfast if offered daily, the problem is, it never changes. Scrambled eggs, some breakfast meat, potatoes, and little egg and cheese sandwiches. I stayed at the Byward Blue for a whole week, that breakfast got boring after three days. There also was yogurt, fruit, cereal and more, so quantity wasn't an issue. I give the place 5 green dots for effort with a solid staff that is very helpful and accommodating, but that doesn't make up for everything else. One last thing, if you want hi-speed wifi, go somewhere else.…
