This property seems to have several buildings and we stayed in a large former mansion in the Fitzroy Suite which was a very large room with a minuscule bathroom and the loudest fan ever. Breakfast was very good with an actual menu and lots of choice. Fridge in the room. The place looks a bit like it could use some sprucing up and the curtains on our big bay windows were difficult but the staff were very nice and attentive.

Beautiful historic building. In a nice quiet area, within walking distance of historic Charlottetown. Stay included a full breakfast. Very casual atmosphere. Be aware that some of the rooms are a few flights up stairs, I was not aware of this, would have asked for a room on a lower floor. Our room was very small especially the bathroom, took a while to figure out how to work the shower and get hot water. There is no hair dryer in the room.

My rating: 4.5 stars. We enjoyed our stay here. It's a beautiful, historic inn and the room was very well appointed and decorated. The bed was nice and comfortable, and the bathroom had been renovated and was very modern/stylish. The common spaces were lovely too, including a nice breakfast dining room and an enclosed, comfortable patio space. I definitely appreciated the all day coffee and tea in the lobby and the breakfast that was included. It was fancier than I thought it I would be! You basically order off of a menu. I had the French omelette, pear and onion omelette (my favorite), and the classic breakfast (my least favorite, since the scrambled eggs were somewhat dry). Each breakfast came with potatoes and bread with the most delicious local strawberry and raspberry jam...so good. One of my favorite parts of waking up each morning was smelling breakfast cooking downstairs, great start to the day! They also have nice grounds/gardens to walk around and a fire pit area that was nice to relax around. Everyone working here was super friendly and helpful, and the inn is in a very convenient location, within walking distance of anything you want to see downtown. Only negatives were the small parking lot (with no signage) and how we sometimes had to park on the street. Also we had trouble figuring out the shower at first (it was confusing) and the bathroom is quite small and not very convenient in terms of storage space. However, we still had a great experience overall.

We stayed 3 nights and apart from one night where we had a very noisy (selfish) neighbour we had a great stay. Our room was at the top of the main building so a few stairs but you have to except this is an old, but beautiful building. The room was spacious and comfortable with a good view - with the sun shining all day it was a little warm being at the top. Breakfast is very good and the service excellent. The hotel allows an easy 10 minute walk to the town centre. Car parking was fine. There is unlimited tea/coffee in the lobby - bit of a walk first thing for one's tea in bed but not really problem. All in all, wished we stayed longer, 10/10 Hillhurst.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June. Our room was in the main house, up 4 flights of steep stairs. The room was small, with a double bed and the teeniest bathroom ever. I understand maintaining the integrity of the house and the era but renovations to put in a noisy room air conditioner left the window not completely closing, an ugly white pipe sticking out and a bathroom with a tiny shower with no place to put shampoo etc while showering. The room door doesn’t quite fit and the hallway lights shine into the room all night. That said, the location is great for walking downtown, the staff were very nice and the breakfast was lovely. I’d say you could do better elsewhere (this was part of a tour package we purchased) but I don’t know what other rooms on the property looked like. It may have been that we just got this so-so room and others are better. I do read in other reviews, however, that the bathrooms are all small.
