When in Charlottetown on Business I always stay at the Hotel on Pownal. The rooms are wonderful and it's walking distance to everything downtown. I've even used their bikes to go for a ride along the water on a beautiful evening.

Good place to stay; centrally located. Would stay again. Walking distance from all amenities in downtown Charlottetown location. COVID rules were in effect and so the place was not very busy when I was there.

Nice Clean Hotel, rooms are a little on the small size but all other aspects of the hotel including overall hotel and room cleanliness, bed comfort and breakfast quality were excellent! The hotel is located within walking distance from the downtown so no need to drive anywhere. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

This was my second time at the Hotel on Pownal, with the same person! The last time we came we were just doing a staycation for the sake of a staycation, this time we got a Queen Suite (room 140) for our anniversary. I have to say that I think overall our experience was better than last time (but I may have gotten pickier!). The room was far bigger than I was expecting. Lots of reviews have said this, but this building had previously converted from a motel into what it is now, and some of the architecture was still there (outside doors in both the bedroom and the living space for example!). The bedroom and bathroom were both pretty standard size, but the living space was much larger and more relaxing, and the kitchenette was it's own little room with basically a full kitchen (oven, stove, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, full sized fridge... My home kitchen is barely bigger.) The decor is meant to look urban but it is quite usable as well, which is quite often the issue with "urban" or "minimalist." There was more than adequate sitting space for the two of us and I was worried the blanket in the bedroom wouldn't be enough, but it was quite nice and after a few minutes I warmed up enough each night. The only real negatives: the soundproofing isn't fantastic and the dumpster outside was close to our room (no complaints about that, the dumpster's gotta go somewhere!) and thew ind kept rattling it and kept me up a bit. The water pressure on the toilet wasn't optimal (it was a bit hard to tell when it had actually flushed) but wasn't an issue overall. It would have also been nice to have a bar closer to the sink for the hand towel but I understand that space is an issue. The cleanliness was wonderful. I didn't see any hair, dust bunnies, undusted surfaces, nothing like that. The only thing I found was a bath towel that had something hardened onto it (just the tiniest bit, easy to miss when folding- and it was purple so I wasn't worried about it being something gross). The breakfast was better than last time (though the bagged breakfasts in covid restrictions aren't hard to beat!). The hot vegetable frittata was nice, as were the warm hashbrowns, and the muffins were better than I expected them to be. The workers at the desk were polite, patient, and very nice (though very confused when we asked if there were bath robes available at the hotel). The location is very convenient, nestled right in downtown; very few things in the area are a long walk. If you want a hotel with a view, though, this isn't it; I'm not faulting them for it, it's not like they can control what the neighboring businesses and homes look like.

Hello Choycec, Thank yo so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your experience, we really appreciate it. We are overjoyed you had a great stay and we love that you chose to return to us out of all of the choices to stay in Charlottetown. We are sorry to hear of the purple speck on the towel which my housekeeping team is aware to double check upon final room inspections. We take so much pride in our cleanliness of the hotel but very happy to hear you were impressed. We look forward to hosting you again soon for another staycation when ready. Megan H. Equal to an older version of a holiday in express. Decent enough but I was surprised and still skeptical of the legit 4.8 rating which is an over estimate. Clean and comfortable. Included breakfast is typical. Location is good if weather allows walking

3 friend stayed for 2 nights mid October. We arrived early evening and had a friendly welcome from reception staff. Our room had 2 double size beds and although the rooms aren't huge there was adequate room for our cases and things. Everything is very clean and well kept. Breakfast is basic but tasty and there is a good selection. Would definitely stay again if we visit Charlottetown

Could not have asked for a better hotel experience! I was with a tour group staying here during Hurricane Fiona when we lost power for 40 hours. The hotel staff was great, giving each of us a small portable lantern to use in our rooms. The hotel owners, who live nearby and have a generator, made hot coffee in the mornings and prepared a delicious dinner of grilled hotdogs and hamburgs for the staff and guests the evening we were without power. The room was spacious and very comfortable, plus the location was perfect for walking in Charlottetown. Would definitely stay here again!!

Hi Carolyn, Thank you so much for your review and for your kind words. We are so pleased to hear you had a wonderful experience during a difficult time in Charlottetown when Hurricane Fiona took place. Ownership did recognize that the city was shutdown without power and absolutely wanted to ensure the guests were taken care with a hot meal and coffee. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience which we look forward to welcoming you back with us again in the future. Megan H. Hotel General Manager gm@thehotelonpownal.com

We stayed in room 215. One side of the king bed was ok but the other was awful. The room is dark and worn. Towels were frayed and ripped. Breakfast was below average. One day a girl was filling things up and the next no one was around. No milk, no toast, coffee was out etc. The dining room is a little like a dungeon. There is no access Netflix on the tv and only basic cable is provided. Hotel is definitely in a great location and the parking is free. I wouldn’t stay here again. Should note there is no elevator on this property.
