I stayed at auberge l'apéro Montréal. The bed is an air matress, very unstable, could't sleep. The room has not been cleaned during my stay, not even a day. No oven, no cooking facilities, no shelves, no windows int the kitchen and in the room. Waiting line for the bathroom. The owner has not told me I was in the...

We spent 2 nights in one of the private rooms, which are above an Indian restaurant down the street from the main hostel building. My experience started off negatively due to the person at the front desk taking about a half hour to check us in while my husband was nervously waiting in the car in an illegal parking spot...

On the plus side : the hostel is one block away from the Guy Concordia subway station, and a short walk away from the Crescent St nightlife area and a few other cool bars. They provide a fair amount of free food for breakfast (you have to help yourself), free and fast wireless. The hostel is fairly small (20 beds...

I stayed here Thursday to Monday beginning of August and was really happy with everything. Was a little shocked when i saw it out front, but when inside it's relatively nice. I stayed in an all girls 6 bed (3 bunks) dorm, where we all had own lockers and the room was quite big. However, the room looked like it...

My girlfriend and I had never done the whole hostel experience but we figured for 60 bucks a night for a private room, it was worth a shot. We were right. We got a private room in the newer building and once you get over the fact that you're sleeping above a restaurant and you share a bathroom with up...

I booked this hostel with 3 friends for the Jazz Festival. I relied on the reviews here and the hostel website. I am sorry to say that the "new improved" accommodations are not at all as described. Apparently, the hostel has recently acquired a second building, which they have billed as "deluxe" with private and semi-private rooms. But the site...

Most uncomfortable bed i've ever slept in my life. I got a top bunk, and maybe it's just top bunks, it's been so long since i've slept in one i don't know, but it sagged so much in the middle it felt like sleeping in a pit i'd dug myself and the floor looked temting by comparison. so i didn't...

I picked this hostel due to the comments on TA and I wasn´t dissapointed. I stayed 3 nights... close to everything. Clean beds, clean bathrooms. I was worried about it being chilly in the dorm room at night as it was -20 on average when I was there but it was a warm sauna in the room... which was great!

I needed a hostel in Montréal for New Year's Eve. I already went to the HI Hostel and was not entirely satisfied with it (expensive for what you get). After a quick research, I picked up l'Auberge Apéro as it didn't have any bad review. It was the best choice I could ever make. It's a small and cozy hostel,...

I left my heart at Auberge L’Apero! Really, it made my stay in Montreal such a pleasure. Paul, the owner, is really such a great guy and very knowledgeable. He really showed me some great offbeat places that I would've never thought to see in Montreal! It made my stay very memorable. The hostel itself is a bit on the...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Auberge Apéro, a European-style hostel in North America’s most European city, Montréal. Apéro is the French word for aperitif – the beginning of a great meal or in this case – a great vacation. With only 12 beds, we offer a cozy, personalized atmosphere on two floors of an old 1880s graystone with all the amenities you expect from a hostel, and many that you don’t. The rooms are bright with hardwood floors and some interior brick walls that add an air of coziness to the Auberge. The second floor contains the reception area, the store, common rooms, and the laundry. ... more   less

“Rooms must be clean, with no cockroaches or rats. Sometimes you've to experience it for yourself because I found that even with Trip Advisor's approval in one of the hostels close to Berri Uquam there were rats running around every morning. I complained, but no action was taken. I stayed for more than 3 weeks in Auberg L'Apero and found it very satisfactory.”
