The Auberge couldn't be more aptly named! Simple and homey feel where your experience is more like a b&b mixed with a home-stay. Well worth the price and a great staff to boot. Excellent location, quiet.

Very nice and spacious accommodations. Great location and a beautiful old home feeing. They even had 3 guitars that you could use, as well as a computer on the 2nd floor landing. Internet was a little iffy at times,

If you are looking for the newest, most chic and renovated room; then this isn't the place. If you are looking for warm, comfortable, unique and welcoming, then here's your spot. GREAT location in the old port of Montreal; close to awesome restaurants and sites to visit. Our room was HUGE, clean and very comfortable. Tremendous value.

Great location, ambiance and the room was beautiful! The bathroom was very big and clean. The room had a large fridge and a toaster over which was very nice. The location is very central. Lots of great restaurants in the area as well.

My son and I decided on short notice to go up to Montreal from our home in central Vermont to celebrate his birthday. I hadn't been there in years, and I spent a couple of hours on the internet the night before researching hotels and decided on the Place Royal because it was perfectly located for our planned adventures and...

My wife and I stayed at the Auberge de la Place Royale in early January, for a visit to Old Montreal. Overall, it was fine experience. We had booked one of the backside (no view) rooms, but, due to issues with rooms, we received a free upgrade to a top-floor, front-side room with a view of the Old Port. The...

Came with my boyfriend for a night in Montreal on our way to Mont Tremblant and were impressed by wonderful our room was especially for the price. We were greeted by the one person who was working that afternoon and he kindly showed us around, gave us recommendations for the area and made sure we were all set up. When...

Only positive thing about the hotel is the location. Mediocre room cleaning. No reception. The phone in the room doesn't work. High price for a average hotel. No restaurant. Bad internet signal. There are no safes or safe deposit boxes for guests.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
