Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young
professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.

The hotel has suites that include kitchen and separate bed or bedrooms depending on your registration. There are family suites that provide separate bed and some suites that provide separate bedroom and bathroom, but it has no shuttle service to the airport as Montreal traffic in and out of the island is pretty bad. Unless you find a hotel close by the airport, you can forget free shuttle. If you don't want to pay for taxi, you can use the 747 bus. As usual it does not work well cost-wise to use public transportation if you have a few people to share the cost of a cab. The 747 bus does not take you all the way to the hotel, you need to use the metro train after the bus to get there. It sounds like your party has two or more people, so you can do the math. The US Consulate is in Montreal is at 1155 St Alexander St, Montreal. I have never been there and I used the internet to locate it for you. That is downtown Montreal and you can reach it from this hotel via metro, just a couple of stops. There are two metro stations close to this hotel, one is McGill and the other is Victoria Station. I would probably use the Victoria Station to get to the US Consulate in downtown but McGill has an underground station closer to the hotel. Depending on your physical condition and weather on that day, walking there is not difficult as well. I walked all the way from the old town pier area back to the hotel at night, but that was in the summer.
