My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our first stay at the Nelligan, in a petit suite. The front desk staff and concierge offered helpful tips on local restaurants (the hotel's own, Versus, is amazing!). The suite itself is spacious, has a romantic fireplace and couple-sized tub. The LeLabo toiletries were a much appreciated surprise. The hotel itself is located in...

Stayed here for a long weekend with 20 friends and family for my birthday and couldn't have asked for a better hotel. The service was excellent and no one had one bad thing to say! The rooms were adorable and food and drinks at all places in the hotel were excellent too!

Excellent room, excellent value, close to everything, would definitely stay again! The room was totally charming, awesome bed with turn down service at night with chocolates left at our bed side. The gym is small but sufficient (could use a fan), and a coffee make in the room would have been nice. Overall the Nelligan is a superb hotel in...

We stayed with our two young children for two nights at this charming boutique hotel. Hotel Nelligan has a hip, romantic vibe, and may not seem like a great place for a family stay, but our kids were treated very well. The continental breakfast was tasty. The location, in the heart of Vieux-Montreal, is a few blocks from the Old...

Hotel Nelligan is right in the heart of Old Montreal. Large rooms, stone and brick decor, rooftop patio, and alway friendly service. Breakfast in morning is excellent. Each room is unique - a view of old montreal street or a glimpse of the st. Lawrence. Reasonably priced too. One of montreal's best boutique hotels.

A very nice Hotel in Montreal's old town nearby the river and port. Service is perfect, rooms are well equipped (quite big bath room), breakfast was good. We liked as well the way the building was renovated preserving the charming character of former times. All in all highly recommended!

Overall, the Hotel Nelligan is a solid 4-star option in Old Montreal. We stayed for three nights (and had both a king suite room and a two double bed room). The hotel is historic, has exposed brick walls, and a very nice aesthetic. The kind suite was spacious and worth the extra money for the upgrade. The staff was incredibly...

We went for the first time in 2015 with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. We had a fantastic experience. We decided to go back in 2016. Once again, we chose a posh suite (+$350/night). However, this time it was a horror movie. We couldn't sleep all night long.It was like the whole Old Port party was inside our room....

This beautiful, European style hotel located in the heart of old city Montreal, has large and comfortable rooms and the staff are amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful experience. In particular, Maude was lovely and she was very helpful in recommending fabulous restaurants that suited our budget.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
