This was our first trip to Montreal and the Hotel Nelligan helped make our stay fabulous. This is a boutique hotel with a contemporary, hip, European vibe in the heart of Old Montreal. The staff and concierge were very helpful in navigating the streets and their restaurant recommendations were fantastic. We ate in the ones they recommended - Le Bremner...

A great combination of elegance and rustic, create a little hotel with big pulling power. Right in the cool part of town (Old Montreal, I think) which feels like Paris. Staff are excellent and helpful, decor is leather, wood, exposed brick. Minimalist look in rooms but huge comfy beds and pillows. The downstairs restaurant and bar is very good. Close...

Fantastic staff, delightful details (fireplace in room) and terrific location. Really enjoyed my stay. Special thanks to Maude for making my birthday so special! Was traveling on business and was surprised and thrilled with the room upgrade and kind care.

Where to start? Perfectly located, several hundred years old yet modern, rooms, beds, and baths supremely comfortable (we had a junior suite). Every night there was turndown service with chocolates and bottles of water. The staff is very friendly and service oriented. Most times the front doors were held open for us, and we were greeted arriving and leaving by...

My wife and I stayed here recently in the two room romance suite. The room was fantastic with lots of room and great furnishings. Highlights included the large jet tub and the Nespresso coffee machine. The staff were super friendly and the overall experience was one we hope to repeat again soon. Highly recommended for a couples stay!

We had an incredible trip once again at Nelligan. We are frequent visitors and they never disappoint. The front desk Manager Daisy is very helpful as well as Marisol- but every staff member is courteous, polite and helpful. It can be months between visits, but they always remember us which adds a personal touch. The weather didn't cooperate with us...

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful and our room (a petite suite) was beautiful. Very comfortable bed with a huge bathtub. The front desk gave us fantastic recommendations for both meals and local activities. We were very happy with the entire experience.

Room was lovely, service excellent. "Fireplace" was electric. Would definitely stay again. Was nice that we could leave our luggage and car after checkout and stay longer in the city. Recommendations were helpful, and our lunch at Verses was nice.

This high-class property is located within a lovely old building in the heart of Old Montreal (just a block away from the Cathedral). The quality of the hotel trim is top-notch and you feel you are in an oasis of class starting with the large stone-walled atrium. The rooms had nice amenities although our window faced the interior atrium which...

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
