Good quality hotel, nice place for a business meeting... BUT I got a dodgy SMS a couple of days later asking if minibar charges could be placed against the credit card used on check in. The SMS came with no identifying number. When I called it took a long time to get an answer. The assistant was polite and helpful and informed me that there was a charge for a bottle of champagne - which was a fantasy. I used only one bottle of complimentary still water (and confirmed that it was complimentary on check out). The assistant said that the charge would be removed. I can think of a number of explanations but all are speculative on my part, none flattering to the hotel. Has anybody else had the same experience??
I was delighted with my stay here - staff all friendly and welcoming. Nice upgrade to a room with a view. Excellent and extensive breakfast buffet. Good food on offer server poolside. Double Bay itself has a nice feel, different to Sydney CBD but only a ferry ride away.
The hotel was pretty good. The staff was pretty good but not amazing for a 5 star. The common areas were well maintained, but unfortunately I found the room a bit small and breakfast not amazing. I don’t think I’ll stay with you, again, the price quality ratio is not convincing
Normally I only give feedback back to the hotel staff but in this case I do believe it’s time to make a review. I was very surprised to see the rating on Intercontinental Double Bay because it’s a fantastic hotel. I stay around 180 days in Australia every year and I have to say that Intercontinental Double Bay is by far the best hotel in Australia within IHG -the staff are really nice and personal, the lounge is the best lounge that I have ever been to and the hotel is very boutique, so you will connect with the staff, not like a City hotel where they don’t even remember you, even though you might have stayed there for 5 nights. The reason why I’m doing this review, is for everyone to understand that the rating you see online (which I normally look at myself) is not anywhere near the experience you will get by staying here. I do believe it has to do with people like myself, that just expect the hotel to be rated the best but it does show that most people making reviews are only doing it, if they want to complain about small thing. I have stayed at this hotel since 2016 and every stay has been so pleasant and I just can’t see how Intercontinental Double Bay can do any better because they are doing everything to perfection, so therefore I hope this small review will make a small difference. We all know that it´s the people behind that makes all the difference and this is also why I have to say that Intercontinental Double Bay is above the normal Intercontinental brand. All staff members are so personal and they just want to make your stay as convenient as possible…
I couldn’t fault the service at the intercontinental! We left a dodgy air bnb that cost the same per night and checked into the luxury and convenience of the IDB. From the glass of champagne at check in to the amazing valet parking service, it is a polished operation. Every staff member I interacted with in my 5 night stay was friendly, helpful and thoroughly professional. I stayed with my kids and they loved all the fancy trimmings, including the buffet breakfast which has a fresh juice station, Nutella station (big hit!), a number of hot meals made fresh to order, plus Moet & Chandon if you are so inclined at that hour of the morning (!) My only criticism is the pool temperature - it was really cold. I would have loved to get in and spend more time there with the kids, but it was too cold even for them (and that’s saying something). Nonetheless we will be back, we have found our Sydney base and look forward to returning. Hopefully the pool temp will have been improved by then!…
Positive comments first. Staff amazing, so helpful, friendly and professional. For example ZAK, concierge , suggested a restaurant, but found they were fully booked, so he walked down there and personally organised us a table and then returned to the hotel and walked us down. He did not have to do this as the restaurant is very popular and he could easily have accepted that there was not a table available. Another example, Peter who was taking care of parking today, offered to park my car for free after we had checked out, so we could enjoy a coffee at the local cafe before we left Double Bay. He also did not have to make this offer so we could spend a little time enjoying DB before we left. All other staff, especially at Reception were totally supportive, friendly, professional and a credit to the person responsible for training the staff. The room had a roll out bed in our room when we arrived, and it had to be removed which did allow quite some nice space in the room overlooking the street. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, but the shower is too small for a man or large person. In room service menu does not exist and we were told to scroll down the TV and then download an app. from the TV and etc. etc. I told them I did not have a phone so a room service menu was sent up. An international 5 star hotel should be more user friendly than this. However I sent the food back which I ordered as quite frankly it was disgusting. The spatchcock was dry, stale, cold and I could not eat it. The chips were also cold, but at reception they were very gracious and took the cost off our bill. I definitely would NOT recommend the food at this hotel. Valet parking is first class and cost $70 pr day. Se comments on Peter above. Breakfast is in a very nice quiet room but the selection again is not great, especially the hot food. It seems that the food in this hotel spoils what would otherwise be a great hotel. Position in Double Bay is perfect as it is in the centre surrounded by the shops, and other attractions.…
This place sucks. HAMILTON was raising his voice to me and continued to argue with me about LAW. IF you don't have a shuttle bus - Don't claim that you have one. Simple as that. When your hotel actually has a shuttle and it is at your hotel. Not we can call you a cab and you can pay the cab is not a shuttle
One of my better decisions not to be in the center of the action in Sydney. Only a couple miles away but a world away from the CBD in terms of crowds, traffic, Sydney beauty. Not much to knock here, rooms with great balconies over looking the water. Leafy upscale neighborhood great restaurants, close access to the water ferry, rooms well appointed, room service and food excellent. Restaurant vibe not for me (too quiet, table layout) but overall well run hotel and good value for location and quality. Bell desk staff a particular stand out.
Promises much but does not deliver. Stayed on level 2 which is a pet floor (no issues but I am allergic to pet smells) so beware. Room smelt like dogs which is not hygienic. Steer clear of the bar/ restaurant as service is slow and disinterested , no oysters, asked for steak rare and came well done, French fries limp and sad - a metaphor for the bar and the hotel.
This is a 3 star hotel at best . We had to extend our stay because my wife became very ill and was admitted to hospital and I had to stay on. So they increased the rate to $820 per night plus $70 parking ‘because all the Sydney hotels were booked out.’ We had to move rooms 3 times without getting any assistance with our luggage. They then tried to charge us $96 for a bottle of wine from the mini bar and a further $12 the next night. We didn’t even open the minibar! On the last night I was given a room reserved for disabled people. It was a disgrace! It didn’t even have a wardrobe to hang clothes in!! All three of the rooms we stayed in were dirty and had rubbish still in them from the previous occupants. I spoke to the General Manager who was apologetic and did a lot of ‘hand-wringing’ but actually did nothing to alleviate the problem. This is not a high quality establishment. In fact it is an extremely low quality one. Do not waste your money by staying there !!…
