After a half hour drive from Chania airport we arrived at Domes Noruz. The security guard swiftly showed us where to park and we were accompanied to reception where the friendly staff invited us to take a seat and formalities were dealt with while local treats and welcome drinks were served. It was a smooth and quick process. We were offered recommendations for dining and other local activities. We were then escorted to our rooms and offered a tour of the hotel amenities in the process. I stayed in two different room types; the Upbeat Retreat with plunge pool and the Wellness Loft. The Upbeat Retreat was spacious, with a comfortable bed opening out to a veranda with chairs and a lounging area and a good sized plunge pool. There was also a deep bath on the veranda. Indoors was the shower and toilet while the wash basin was in the main part of the room. Complimentary OlivEra products were provided and regularly replenished. Some of the Upbeat Retreats, particularly those nearest the reception have higher ceilings making them more airy. The Wellness Loft is considered an upgrade from the Upbeat Retreat. It is spread across two floors. The bedroom area with a small bathroom and a sink is on the upstairs level while the living area is downstairs along with a shower/toilet room. There is also a double sofa and a veranda with a whirlpool bathtub but no plunge pool. The rooms were very similarly decorated. Upgraded Elemis products were available in the Loft. Personally, I much preferred the Upbeat Retreat. I liked having the plunge pool, and it felt more spacious. I like the idea of the Wellness Loft but in trying to squeeze a lot of things in a small space, I found that it felt more crammed. For example, the toilet is perched right next to the shower screen with little space. The shower door itself would not close fully. Similarly, the upstairs bathroom is so small it’s not really comfortable to use. On my last evening, when I tried to use the outdoor bath tub, I realised that the plug would not seal properly and therefore could not fill the bath. I’m sure staff would have sorted it out but being late at night, I just decided not to use it. Lastly the doorbell in the Wellness Loft had not been working. On a return trip I would very much prefer the Upbeat Retreat or any of the other ground floor options with plunge pools. I like the style of the resort and the room decor. Natural colours and materials create a relaxed feel, very well suited to beach/island life. Breakfast was served at Topos restaurant and consisted of a varied buffet as well as hot dishes cooked to order. The staff did a fantastic job ensuring people wore masks and gloves when browsing the buffet. Many of the options also varied daily which was nice to see. We also enjoyed drinks at Raw, the pool bar throughout the day. A perfect place for sunsets and sundowners! Overall, I would probably give the hotel 4.5 but one thing that truly stands out is the service! The staff at the hotel are all absolutely incredible. No matter what they do, from concierge to reception to bar and restaurant staff, housekeeping and maintenance, everyone was extremely professional, helpful, always available and no request was ever too much for them. Everything was handled quickly and efficiently. A special mention for Olga at Topos restaurant during breakfast - she was phenomenal! Friendly, professional, attentive, and incredibly helpful! Without a doubt made our day! Exceptional service like this will always put a hotel at the top of my list, despite some minor “hardware” issues. Having also been to all Domes properties minus the recently opened Domes of Corfu, the service at Noruz is, hands down, at the very top.

At the beginning I want to congratulate the staff for their excellent and dedicated work. They were always present but not in any disturbing ways. We got really good hints from our daily talks with them. Where to go, what to see and taste. There was also a nice extra cocktail class activity for Bonvoy members. Bartender introduced a few basic cocktails which can be then tasted and every one could choose the one for themselves to drink as an ending. Place was almost full but still it was very quiet and peaceful everywhere. Getting reservations for breakfast and dinner was not so easy. Nothing that you can do hours or even a day before. Luckily we are night owls so late breakfast around 10 o'clock was just fine. Place was dead quiet after 11pm when everything closed. Restaurants were really good but did not have enough variation for a one week resort life. For us this was fine but someone else might care. The location is near enough to Chania to go out but we did find decent or even excellent places nearby. We tried two types of rooms. The first one had a basic layout which was working well but the bathroom was a total disaster. Everything inside was soaking wet after a shower and a little later all the floors are also room side became wet and slippery. The second room was a wellness loft. The Downstairs bedding area is working well but the sink area made it a little tight to move around. Hot tub with sea views was something we used daily. It was very relaxing after daily hikes around the island before heading for dinners.

Above all else, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, all the staff were exemplary. Warm, informative, helpful but never unctuous, we were hugely impressed from the delightful Maria who greeted us to the man at the gate who waved us off. We felt fortunate in our choice of rooms. They were right on the beach with small private pools so the view was excellent and privacy not too much of a problem. The architecture of the place is fairly brutal but probably has wide appeal beyond me. There are two lovely large pools and the access to the sandy beach couldn’t be better. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the one dinner that we had having decided, on this fleeting visit to this end of the island, to explore all the options. The car company that the hotel laid on was very good and whisked us around with efficient good humour. Apparently, all the treatments that the rest of my family had in the Spa were amazing. I think that the only downside for me was in the interior design of the plumbing. Our shower room/loo was decidedly odd and the only basin squashed into a corner of the bedroom was very cramped. Our bath, which I guess is supposed to be exhilerating in some way, was on our terrace and obvious to any passer by. Being of a certain age and poundage, I’m not that keen on flaunting myself.

First thing I have to say is the staff are amazing: Everything is done efficiently and with a friendly smile. Congratulations to the whole team on this!! The resort is relatively small, but even though it was 100% during our stay it was very quiet and peaceful everywhere - no issues getting sun loungers or meal reservations. Two pools, a good sandy beach and plunge pools in every room I think (though not heated as far as we could tell). There is a "Library" under the reception which acts as an executive lounge - not really worth the effort and the lack of windows makes it feel like a basement. Room was great. We had a loft space room which suited us with space for our teen downstairs (over 16s only). Bed and facilities were good. Room lay out is is little odd and you are guaranteed to hit your head/leg at least once on something. There is a restaurant (Topos) and a sushi facility which is outside (Raw). Both served very good food, with the Sushi recommended. As a small resort, this makes sense, but lack of variety may impact some people , and the menu is static, though there were daily specials and the daily deserts are fantastic (Chocolate textures...Mmmmm). If you are looking for a quiet, very nice place for a few days with attentive friendly staff, this is a great place!!!

We stayed for two weeks in August and had an amazing time. The hotel is beautiful from a design point of view, very tasteful and boutiquey. The facilities from the lovely pools, large enough to swim good lengths, to the spa, and even the Covid-compact gym are all spot on, and the position of the hotel, right on the beach but with a chill-out grassed area between the restaurant and the sands give the hotel an exclusive club feel. The location is near enough to Chania to go out and eat there which we did many times, and the hotel were very happy to make excellent restaurant suggestions and reservations for us. Chania is an attractive harbour town with many dining and shopping options, and it was nice to wander around the old town for a change of scene, but not surprisingly it was very crowded in August. Our favourite restaurant was Periplous in a newly regenerated old tannery district outstide of the main tourist zone, right on the water, where the food was on another level to the good but more touristy restuarants in Chania old town. What makes this hotel stand out is the level of service from everyone you meet, from the managers/concierges front of house in reception to the cleaners and everyone in-between - they have customer service front of mind, are friendly and courteous at all times, and really want to help. They clearly love their jobs and it's important to them that you have a great experience. Nothing is too much trouble, and they take pleasure in your pleasure. On our last day the restaurant cooked my teenage son's favourite fish as a surprise. He had mentioned to a waiter the day before that he was sorry that he hadn't seen it on the menu at all during our stay. They sourced it for him specially, a lovely touch which he really appreciated. Our group didn't eat meat, and there were plenty of vegetarian and fish options for us in the restaurant, all cooked to a very high standard. If I have to think of one negative, it was the room layout (we stayed in a Wellness Loft Room). The rooms are attractive with lovely balconies, luxury beds and linens, and the decor is stylish, but an uncomfortable sideways squeeze to get past a central sink/storage unit which divides the entrance of the room from the bed area is irritating. At exactly this pinch-point a mirrored cupboard on the wall catches you with a sharp corner if you're not careful. I am slim and found this challenging so I can't imagine how a larger person would manage. The other side of the bed has more space. What is actually a pretty small room for the cost does use the space intelligently with clever storage, and there is an upstairs level with second balcony and a hot tub, although we found we rarely used it. Don't be put off by this room issue, it's a minor niggle, and overall the hotel exceeded our expectations. We had an super relaxing time, and are looking forward to returning very soon. Thank you to all, too many to name, who gave us really memorable and individual service and made our stay so great.
