My family had rented a car and were driving through Piedmonte wine tasting and eating as much of the local food as possible. We rented rooms here for three nights, and they were unbelievable. A true castle, that the tiny town of Coazzolo is literally built around. Beautiful gardens, stuccoed ceilings, the most amazing pool table i have ever seen. Built in 1779 i think Pia said. Pia and her family were so helpful, kind, pointed out new places to go, a pizzeria, winieries, the local farmers market, everything. But the location is mind boggling an almost fairy tale like place still without the disney lacquer to sham the character of the castle. Interior was not stuffy, despite the impressive decore thanks to a minimal amount furniture and other accoutrements to let the bones of the house speak loudly. Everything is provided don't worry, but it isn't all done up in a ruffed collar. More than any one thing the combination of location, view, historic old house, kind host made our... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The charming bohemian Castle of Coazzolo, now a stately home, dates from the 13th century and is located just 14 km away from the medieval town of Alba. The Castle on its hill top perch dominates the village and enjoys outstanding 360 views across the hills of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato. The carefully renovated bedroom suites are very tastefully furnished with antique furniture and show the fashion background of the owners Silvano Stella and Maria Pia Mottino. With a touch of yesteryear and history breathing in the thick walls, the Castle and your hosts wait to greet the discerning traveller with warmth and charm. The extensive park has a lovely swimming pool which served as a cistern in earlier times. On sunny days guests can enjoy an extensive breakfast buffet on the spacious terrace with views of the surrounding vineyards. When it is cold the evening ends in the firelight drawing room with a glass of red wine. You can enjoy your evening meal at the local restaurants, you can't get more local than Coazzolo where family of Signor Silvano offer typical Italian national cuisine and local wines. For something a little bit different, Individual yoga sessions in the great hall, rebirthing sessions and ayurvedic massage can be organised upon request. The Castle of Coazzolo is the perfect place for everyone who loves the beautiful, the unusual, the contemplative and the relaxing. And the Langhe area in Piedmont is not only for connoisseurs of fine wines, white truffles, hazelnuts and chocolate but also for those who enjoy time outdoors walking, cycling or horse riding. Come and enjoy wonderful Italian cuisine, delightful wines, beautiful towns and villages and time to be. ... more   less
