A former monastery now a hotel. The hacienda is in the countryside. A fabulous hotel it dates from 1366. Some of the rooms are former monk cells, giving you a taste of monastic life. The breakfast is well worth it, with farm fresh food. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They produce good Spanish wine, olive oil & cheese. The...

Visited Hacienda Zorita as part of a Secret Escapes deal. The individual bungalow accommodation was really comfortable and the food and drink in both the restaurant and the 'cafeteria' were excellent quality and value for money This review would have been 5 stars IF the rooms had tea and coffee making facilities and if the bar staff didn't need quite...

We arrived just too late for the restaurant, but they provided tapas and wine, which was really appreciated after a long journey. The location and surrounding countryside are stunning, and the rooms...

Unamuno is in a rural location in the middle of a vineyard. We arrived at harvest time and where able to experience the harvest with a tour of the winery. The hotel is modern and very comfortable and clean. As it was out of season it was very quiet we vurtually had the place to ourselves that suited us but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hacienda Zorita Natural Reserve, Arribes del Duero. Duero Valley. Spain. Two spectacular villas surrounded by our own vineyards in the heart of a Natural Park. The Duero Canyon is the natural boundary between Spain and Portugal. This area, located in the far west of Spain, was first discovered in 1898 by the famous writer and traveler Miguel de Unamuno, author of the famous poem “Durius, Duero, Douro” and the book “Los Arribes del Duero –notas de un viaje por la raya de Portugal-“ (The Duero Arribes –notes from a journey along the line of Portugal-).Today, the two natural reserves located one on each side of the river’s banks – Parque Natural de Arribes del Duero and Parque Natural Douro International- make this one of the largest protected natural areas in Europe. In the park you can find the endangered black stork. In fact, it is one of the best places for bird watching (vultures, eagles, etc.) while navigating along the calm river waters between the 600 m stone walls of the Duero Canyon. ... more   less
