After an aperitivo, we visited the fascinating "spumante" cellars and learnt about the harvesting of the grapes, the process of bottling and conservation of the spumante. We proceeded upstairs to the dining room where we enjoyed a delicious meal accompanied by 5 different wines concluding with their "passito" with dessert. What an evening! It isn't often that you meet with...

We were recommended to visit by a local friend. We arranged to have the lunch of local specialities with a tasting of the host's wines. We could not find the place, although it was actually clearly signposted, so our hostess met up in the town car park and drove us back in her car. The establishment is immaculate and tasteful....

This is an agriturismo. The guest quarters are in the manor house that used to be the family home of the owner, Sergio Mottura. When we arrived at La Tana it was locked and no one was at the reception desk. But we just walked around the town (which didn't take long because the town is so small) and pretty...

We experienced the Sergio Mottura Wines at a dinner and wine tasting event at La Tana dell'Istrice in June 2016. The dinner, wine tasting and cellar tour were fantastic. The owners were very friendly and the staff was excellent. The setting on the hilltop in Piazza Unita d'Italia was equally impressive. We were so fortunate that Sergio was there to...

We stopped at this hotel about two years ago on our way to the ferry at Civitavecchia and were charmed by its old style elegance and beauty, but most of all by the extraordinary friendliness and hospitality of Sergio Mottura and his wife Alessandra. At the time we only had a day but we had the feeling of having lived...

I found this hotel while looking for losing near to Civita Bagnareggio, a hill town in Lazio, which our son had heard was worth the visit. This hotel is in Civitella d'Agliano, about 20 minutes or so from Bagnareggio, in a small and utterly charming hill town. La Tana dell'Istrice surpassed all of our expectations--it is charmingly decorated in an...

We discovered La Tana dell'Istrice after reading the guestbook at our rental property in the same town - L'Orto Di Alice. Almost every guest was urging the reader to book dinner here without hesitation! We walked past a few times over a several days until the doors were open, we wandered in to find the owner, Sergio. He said dinner...

We have stayed at La Tana several times. Alessandra and Sergio are wonderful host. The rooms are very nice, the food is great and the wine is excellent. To stay in a small hill top town like this is a unique experience. Highly recommend La Tana to people that like something different and a little adventure.

The establishment is housed above a deep cellar carved into the Tufo rock and which is filled with many vintages of Sergio Mottura`s champagnes. The owners are delightful and provide outstanding accommodation and a restaurant which is just beyond description, wonderful wines from the nearby Mottura estate and eat-as-much-as-u-can dishes typical of the area - altogether the very best experience...

We stayed here on our first night in Italy. Once we found the town and remembered to drive through the old archway into the piazza, we were amazed to see la Tana. The owner/proprietors greeted us and showed us to our spacious and nicely appointed rooms. We were provided with must see suggestions, and reminded to return for dinner. We...
