Masseria San Domenico is situated 500 metres from the Adriatic Sea and housed in a whitewashed, XVth century watch-tower set against a backdrop of olive groves, orchards and Apulian seascapes. An impressive free-form seawater pool flows its way through the grounds and the 2 exclusive beaches (one sandy one rocky) allows guests to soak up some sun without the crowds. The SPA and Thalasso centre relies on the same salty seawater to fuel thalassotherapy and balneotherapy-focused offerings, in addition to providing a full menu of massages, facials and body treatments. The more actives can tee-off at the 18-hole golf course overlooking the Adriatic or burn off calories in the gym. To refuel, dinners don't get more romantic than at San Domenico Restaurant, with its 18th-century vaulted ceiling, or at La Nassa, a very fine dining seafood restaurant on the water edge. At the end of the day, elegantly furnished rooms and suites make a restful sanctuary with rich fabrics, colours and textures

We stayed for a week in late August, after coming there for a weekend in late April We were hesitant about choosing August, but after being convinced by the very nice Gabriele (head barman), we booked. It was a wonderful experience, above our expectations. Courtesy, cleanliness, professionalism, peace and serenity, were the pride of this magical place. The breakfast was simply fantastic, not to mention the restaurant, where the sweet Angela was able to guide us through the flavors of the region in an exemplary way. A special mention also to the ceramic services in which dishes and drinks were served as well as tablecloths. Thanks to all but a special to Gabriele and Angela that we hope to find again at our next stay that will happen very soon. Leo and Silvana Verde

I would have loved to give a great review because this was supposed to be the best hotel of our trip. We wanted to save the best for last but this was not really the case.
Location: The hotel is located at 3 km from the sea side in the middle of beautiful olive trees and the drive way is stunning.
Check in: It is a personal impression but for the price guests pay, I think a welcome drink would be a nice start of the stay. On our Puglia trip we stayed in a hotel where we paid 400 € for 3 nights and they offered us a welcome drink and they left a bottle of wine in our room. The welcome at San Domenico was professional though but felt rather cool and distant.
Rooms: I would advise not to take the cheapest room type because there is no terrace or balcony in the room. Also I believe, a plastic shower curtain in a 5 star hotel in 2022, is not an option any more. I understand they want to emphasize the charm of the building but it is not nice, sticking to a shower curtain while taking a shower in the bath tub. The walls are very thin and I could understand what our neighbors were talking about in the room next to ours.
The relaxation area they showed us could do with an update as well or at least a coffee machine would be nice to have.
Breakfast: It is a continental breakfast but we knew this upon reservation. We enjoyed the breakfast very much with nice views over the olive trees, beautifully presented and with great and attentive service.
Swimming pool: Huge swimming pool with lots of space.
The beach clubs were still closed and this is certainly OK because we were told before arrival. I had hoped they would be open because it was the second half of May, the weather was great, hotel fully booked and the beach club of Borgo Egnazio closed due to an event.
We do love to stay in historic hotels with lots of charm but this hotel was not cosy at all. There are not many rooms in the hotel but the property is huge. To get from the room to the reception, breakfast area or swimming pool, you have to cross large courtyards. Even in May, it was very hot out there. The hotel was fully booked but often with groups of cyclists who were out and about during the day and the hotel was completely deserted. We just felt a bit lost in the place. There is probably a very different vibe in the hotel during the high season but unfortunately we were not attracted to it now. Also with the beach clubs open from June on, this might be a whole different experience so it is only a personal opinion.

Beautiful setting, lovely Masseria in a truly stunning part of Puglia. Two critisms : 5 star hotels have soft towels- these were were much bordering on the loofah type bath towels!!!! Unacceptable for a 5 star hotel with monogrammed everything in the bathroom - spend less on that and get decent SOFT towels. Secondly- the staff for dinner were unprofessional, untrained and extremely rude! Listening to the female manager taking them to task the next day is not what a paying guest wants to witness!!

I would have given our stay at San Domenico a 5 star rating, but for our experience on our final day. We were told that we had to leave the Hotel and it’s environs by 12 midday because someone had booked out the entire complex! No-one gave us an inkling of this when we booked our stay, nor were we advised about it by email before our visit. Only because my husband called Reception the day before our departure to ask if we could hang onto our room a little longer, were we given this piece of news. Our flight back to London was 8.30pm and we assumed we would be able to use the facilities at the Spa to shower and change before our departure. The answer was a definite NO!!! Profuse apologies were somewhat irrelevant. However, our stay before all this was wonderful, although the Buffet lunch every day was a bit tedious. The room, our little patio and the Hotel itself are exceptional. Shame that the holiday ended on a sour note.

Masseria San Domenica is a gem of a hotel, which manages to be both classy and totally unpretentious. It is wellness in the full sense of the word, tailored to individual tastes. Nestled among a rich variety of olive trees, some ancient, and other lush vegetation in Puglia, the hotel is framed on one side by an enormous pool and large grounds. There is a sense of quiet. Staff are attentive and friendly without being overbearing. We enjoyed the private beach (decking set up on a rocky beach) very much and the pasta they serve at lunch is some of the best we’d had anywhere. The room decor is a bit dated and tired but then contributed to the relaxed vibe and sense of timelessness. Having dinners served in our private courtyard was a highlight. We’d definitely go back.

The entire experience was first class. The property, grounds, spa, pool areas and amenities, every single area is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and function. The beach club is simply sublime. Whatever we wanted was accommodated. If the menu didn’t suit us, they made sure to prepare us something that was appropriate and all with a willingness to please. My only comment is that accommodation of that standard and price should not be charging any extra for add ons at breakfast. The breakfast is lovely, but they charge extra for hot dishes. Seems a little petty when the accommodation is one of the pricier places in Puglia.

This hotel is first class from top to bottom. The rooms, the grounds, the staff, the pool, the bar, everything is just very nice. In particular the staff at breakfast and dinner was very accommodating and attentive. We would highly recommend the Masseria.

My wife and I enjoyed this hotel and really enjoyed playing golf at the course. Great rooms, great meals and great golf.
The pool is terrific and the olive trees make a wonderful statement. Very impressive entrance and the condition of the grounds make walking a very pleasant experience.
We highly recommend this property.

This Masseria is truly beautiful and unique in every way in the layout and the pool absolutely stunning . The gardens were gorgeous and rooms were very clean , spacious and the health spa world class. It was close to Fasqna and Savelleteri which were lovely to visit and have outside dinners. We played golf which was also a good experience with the reception… golf caddy could improve his personal skills . Very abrupt and unfriendly.
The breakfast food and dining area was outstanding.
What was surprisingly disappointing was the restaurant food. It was expensive, low quality , in fact the worst meal we had in a Puglia in two weeks. Food was served cold, twice with wine not arriving on time. The staff were not that interested in the feedback which was politely given the following day and we were informed we were unlucky ? We had veal meatballs which were served with mash potato which was tasteless , like a child’s meal and dried Sicilian pork which was dry and tasteless.
Given the standing of the Masseria we don’t believe this is what they would wish for for the investment.

We just stayed by the hotel pool and had drinks. I shore line is a short drive away, but we didn't see any swimmers there. We saw some swimmers closer to town, in some of the coves.
There are more places to choose from in the Savelletri area.
