WARNING
Before booking this cabin ask yourself the following 10 questions:
1. Do you like running water in places it shouldn’t be, such as leaking from the ceiling?
2. Do you enjoy water systems that shut off for up to an hour after you use the toilet?
3. Do you get a kick out of being harassed for having 6 people staying in your cabin even though the website clearly states it sleeps 6?
4. Do you seek out garbage dumpsters 10 feet from your front door that aren’t emptied for 10+ days while its 30+ degrees outside?
5. Do you get excited when used men’s underwear is left in your dresser from previous guests?
6. Do you adore being told you left the oven so dirty that it took them 2 hours to clean, despite the fact you only used it once (to roast potatoes)?
7. Does drying yourself with the same towel for 10+ days appeal to you?
8. Do you consider it a benefit if there is a big gap under the door to let mosquitos in at night?
9. Do you love beat up cutting boards and kitchen utensils that have been collecting bacteria since the 1970s?
10. Do you get along with grumpy condescending caretakers named Ralph that blame all issues on the customer?
If you’ve answered NO to any of these questions, I’d recommend you stay elsewhere. The cabin’s location is about the only thing it has going for it. Don’t waste your money on this resort.

Our Complaints
I’d like to request some compensation in the form of a partial refund for the extremely poor experience we had during our recent stay (Aug 1-11, 2020) in cabin #7.
1. The trip got off on the wrong foot almost immediately upon our arrival. We entered the cabin and saw that the extra bed, that is advertised on your website and Booking.com, did not have any bedding. When we asked the caretaker for additional bedding we received a grumpy response and were told that “we don’t rent to 6 adults”. Once again your website and Booking.com advertise the cabin as sleeping 6. We finally received some bedding in the form of a sheet and a couple of pillows, but no blankets. There would be several other instances where we had to ask for issues to be resolved, and every time the issues were blamed on the fact that we had 6 people in the cabin.
2. Used Men’s underwear were left in the bedroom dresser from a prior rental.
3. On day two we noticed that the water would shut off for anywhere between 15minutes to an hour whenever the toilet was flushed, and even when the water was working the water pressure was almost non-existent. When we called to explain the water was not working we were again told it was because 6 people take too many showers. None of our party had showered at the time the water issue was noticed. The problem was never resolved and we had intermittent water use throughout the entire stay.
4. Upon arrival we were told that the water system was under a “boil water” advisery. We were not given warning about this issue during booking or prior to arrival.
5. Kitchen pots and utensils were old and/or unsanitary.
6. The front door had a large gap, even when closed, for mosquitos to enter.
7. The window in the 2nd was sealed with duct tape, so it wasn’t possible to close the window at night.
8. During the mid-week rain storm we discovered at least 3 separate leaks in the roof. These leaks had been identified in reviews from the previous year, and were never fixed properly. We called the caretakers to notify them of the leaks and once again we received flak for having 6 people in the cabin. They didn’t do anything to resolve the issue that night, so we had to move the beds and put pots down under the leaks. When we moved the living room hideabed we saw the linoleum under the bed was curled and the floor is likely rotten underneath.
9. The next day the caretaker came over and went up on the roof. He told us the leaks had been covered by garbage bags previously and that they would fix them after our stay because we weren’t expecting any more rain.
10. On day 9 we requested some fresh towels from the caretaker at the boat dock. He was instructed by the manager not to give us new towels because we had 6 people. We went directly to the caretaker, Ralph, to escalate the request. He was extremely rude during the conversation. After finally bringing us some new towels he then left with a condescending salute. His behavior the entire stay was very unprofessional.
11. We were at the lake to uplug, so it wasn’t a major issue but the wifi in the cabin was almost non-existent.
12. The garbage bins were by our cabin. When we arrived the bins were partially full. In the whole time we wee there they never wee emptied and became very smelly. We were told that ;ick up day was Thursday but that never happened.
I believe Ralph was trying to be funny but he came across as flippant and disrespectful
We were respectful guests and booked the cabin for 6 people based on the booking information online. We are upset at the treatment we received from the caretakers and at the quality of the accommodations. I am available to discuss this matter further at 250-310-0331.
The Response
Tom. Thank you for your email.
I am glad you enjoyed your entire 10 full day stay at the cabin even though there was some rain. The cabins are a beautiful, rustic getaway.
I believe my comments below will address your concerns and please take into consideration, there is presently a worldwide pandemic. Covid rules and restrictions are continuously changing.
We were unable to repair the roof the night of the rain storm as it was a torrential downpour so there was not much we could do. I understand you were able to move the sofa bed to a dryer location. The roof has now been completely repaired.
Normally, bedding is only supplied for the two beds and we encourage everyone to bring their own bedding (and towels). A blanket would have been brought to you if requested and may have been an oversight on both ends.
The floor may be peeling in areas; however, it is not rotten underneath.
Even though kitchen utensils and dishes may not be as new as you would like, most were still in good condition.
We are not able to give advance notice on a boil water advisory as that is beyond our control. We did supply drinking water.
The water system did shut down for short periods but was always operational within a reasonable time frame.
I checked the bedroom window myself and the screen easily moves and allows easy closure of the window.
I did mention in earlier correspondence that I was not sure how well the wifi worked.
Unfortunately, the group who empty the garbage bins were impacted and the driver ended up unable to complete the pickup (this is a small community).
You did get fresh towels during your stay.
I want to bring to your attention that the inside of the stove was left in a fairly dirty state and it took us two hours to clean.
In light of the fact that you did stay the entire duration that you had booked, and the cabin stove required extra work, we will not be processing any type of refund.
Stay safe and healthy during these challenging times.
Thanks,
Alison Wallace
My Response
I am very disappointed with your response. We did enjoy the beach and made the best of a bad situation. Our Reception and constant harassment of having six adults was used to justify everything that was wrong. We did not over use the shower and the water did not return quickly after flushing the toilet. Sometimes it took almost 20 minutes for the water to return to a useful pressure. As for the items supplied in the kitchen we were not expecting four star items but surely we should expect simple items such as the egg flipper to work and the cutting boards to be sanitary. (By the way we did bring our own pots because we were not expecting good ones)As for the stove we took pictures of it before we left and it was in good condition as were the rest of the appliances. We used the oven only once to make Greek potatoes, the rest of the time we used the barbeque or stove top.As for the roof we were not expecting it to be fixed that night. We just don't think garbage bags cut it as roof repairs. Ralph told us it would be fixed after we leave but he was up on the roof while we were still there
As for the linens there is no where On your web page that said linen was not provided for the sofa bed. The cabin was booked for six people it would be obvious we needed bedding for the couch. As for towels, we should not have had to argue for our right to clean towels as we were customers who had booked 10 days. I am sure you wouldn't go that long without a change of towels. As for the boil advisory, according to Ralph it was issued 3 weeks before we arrived, plenty of time to advise us.
As I said earlier your response was inadequate based on our experience. The fact that we stayed the entire time was because it was paid for Tom

My wife and I planned to stay here for 5 days but left after 24 hours due to snakes coming out of the toilet. This was the tipping point for us after 24 hours of issues which I worked with the managers for the first day. I kept telling my wife this is rustic, it's OK. 1) arrived and found dumpsters parked outside our cabin (not in photographs on their site) but they agreed to move them. 2) Told after consuming ice that we have to boil water due to them failing testing twice (We were later told we should have asked first, not their responsibility to tell guests) Again I told my wife this is rustic. 3) Wifi not able to reach cabin. I worked with the manager on site at the time but he was unable to rectify and did confirm the router had an antenna off. 4)Woke up the first morning to find no water. No staff staying on site and no other guests yet so I checked another cabin. No water. There was a jug of water there so I took it so I could flush our toilet. So no showers today! I called a number to ask them to get it fixed and that we would be out for the day. (I was later accused of unauthorized entry into a cabin and that there was water left in our cabin. Not true and any water we had boiled was already used for washing dishes.) 5) Arrived back at the cabin around 3 pm. Found a snake in our cabin. Told my wife again, this is rustic, relax. Water was on. Manager told us their filtration system needed repair and he gave me a number to call if it happened again the next morning (Again, no staff staying on site. So they have a filtration system. Why is it not repaired so we don't have to boil water?). Still happy until........My wife found a snake coming out of the toilet. (4pm ish) That was it. I told an employee on site that we were packing up and expecting a full refund. He came to retrieve the snake from the toilet. I did see the Manager drive on site while we were packing but he did not approach me. After 3 weeks of negotiating with Booking.com I am still out $313.15 because they have the right to charge me for 1 night stay + cleaning fees. I agreed to the $80 cleaning fee because they would have to do that anyhow for the next guest. But $313.15 for one night for all the services not given? I was also accused of lying. "The snake story was questionable and we would not have been happy even staying at the Ritz" We have an outstanding reputation on all booking apps. I have NEVER had my honesty questioned. I have never written a review like this but feel it necessary to tell future travellers. I will never receive my money but that is not the point. I use Tripadvisor and other sites look at reviews prior to booking as we all should.
I will also not use booking.com again as they completely took the side of the property managers regardless of all the complaints I had about the accommodation not being ready to open. My wife had a conversation with the wife of a person on site. I assume they were the Property Managers or Owners? She was told that they were not prepared to open due to COVID-19 and their Caretaker was unable to enter Canada. Booking.com will not hear your complaints.
Our 1 night stay there was not even remotely as advertised and frankly quite embarrassing to discuss with our friends that were staying nearby. Pictures of the site need to be seriously updated.

Stayed at cabin #1 which is right on the beach. Loved the privacy, host was fun and helpful, very rustic little cabin but with electric and water it's all you need. View of lake is great and just off steps. Wifi is spotty but that's the only issue. Will totally be back.
