Before I go into the things I didn’t like, let me shed some light on the things I did. For starters, I have to give Kevin a shoutout. Not only was this man the one who took my reservation, but he was also helping out preparing rooms for guests. I had a special request that was supposed to be ready for my check in date, it was forgotten, and when I went to Kevin, he made it happen. So thank you, Kevin for going above and beyond. Also, I like the private bathtubs they have set up. Great romantic atmosphere. Now, let’s get to the issues! Staff The Pandemic is not over. La Jamaca has some clear staffing needs. I commend them for making due with what they have, but over tasking an employee can lead to bad service and delays. Check In I was told that I could come in early, and use the facilities while rooms were getting prepared. Like in any establishment, I presented myself at the front desk and said I was there to check in. Small note: I arrived two hours before the normal check in time. After filling out some paperwork, I was told that the room would be ready momentarily. The truth, the staff was doing all sorts of work and didn’t notice that the key to the room where I was going to stay in was on the counter. Needless to say, we waited and waited until finally we got our room. This was a getaway with my wife and I had asked for them to decorate the room and this was completely forgotten. Restaurant and Bar. The first night there wasn’t great, two big groups and we were told that due to staff shortage it would take at least and hour and a half to get any service. Naturally, we just walked to a Pizza place that is close by. Not a drinker by any sort, but the bar seemed to have all the essentials for a great variety of cocktails. We were able to get a table on our last night there. It was good, not great, just good. Rooms They currently have to different room offerings. Aside from decor the main difference was size. We choose the bigger rooms and it is nice and cozy. The doors on the other hand needed new handles. You had to play with the handle in order to make sure that is was properly locked. The second door that led to the hammock needed a latch for you to close it, because, you guessed it, the handle didn’t work. Other than that, the bed was comfortable, they had a sofa as well, and a decent size TV. Bathroom Nothing special here. When you look closer it seems that some things were just rushed. The water wasn’t that hot which is another let down.

Seeing all the “excellent” reviews encouraged us to stay here. Excellence is apparently very relative. While La Jamaca has a certain bohemian charm, I was surprised by all the great reviews on various websites. La Jamaca may be great for a backpacker hotel, but at that, it's a little overpriced. Rooms are shabby, small and very basic, but comfortable if you aren't too demanding. Our bathroom was small and the tile grout needed some bleach. The A/C works well. The restaurant has good high calorie food with portions large enough to satisfy big appetites. And it's popular at night with loud music which stopped around ten pm. We reserved two nights but only stayed only one. Life is too short.

Hi Jonathan, thank you for your recent visit and for taking the time to write a review of our property. It is very unfortunate that you felt so uncomfortable throughout your stay. Our staff asked you many times about your stay and the answer was always great. It's really unfortunate that you were disappointed by the size of the room, the music, and the all-around vibe. In La Jamaca we do have an excellent staff that always delivers five-star customer service. We would like to remind you that La Jamaca is a small guesthouse compared to the big chain hotel chains and therefore some amenities may not be available. In your case, you did rent the room for 2 nights and you told us at the front desk that you were leaving because you had a family emergency and that you wanted your money back. We reminded you of our cancellation policy and you were fine with everything. Situations like yours are very unfortunate because you left our property with not a single complaint. We are sad you did not appreciate our property but we assure you that we have excellent recognition from our customers from all over the world. In La Jamaca we do business with respect and with great care and that's why we have sustained for more than 20 years. situations like this one are unfortunate. We don't like them and we don't need them. Personal situations happen daily to everyone, some worst than others. We have seen many in our Hotel but these are things we cannot control. We apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to refund you the money, but that's is just our policy. We hope you find accommodations that meet all your expectations for the rest of your trip. Live. love and laugh, as you said, life is too short!
