We had a lovely stay at Snowy Waters Lodge and found the place perfect for our family occasion. The Hosts were welcoming and accommodating. The accommodation was clean and well equipped and the view from there was amazing. Unfortunately, the only downsize was the township itself with only a handful of shops that were open and nothing much else to...

We had a great star here. Casey the hostess was full of enthusiasm and useful information and nothing was a problem. The old nursing has been done up nicely although it is still a work in progress. The room was fine and great value and we liked that brekkie was thrown in with fresh eggs to cook up - which...

I stayed new years eve on my way to Auckland, wanting to break up the drive. This place exerted my expectations. So welcoming, comfortable and everything you need for self catering. Sandy & Cassey were so friendly and helpful. There is also so many good walks, short and long nearby to interact with the abundant nature & beautiful scenery around

We first heard of Snowy Waters through Grabone and thought it would be fun. You did not fail to deliver - we loved our (regrettably) short stay and hope to come again some time. We did the murder mystery party which was well thought out, humorous and tested our acting skills. Would highly recommend everyone stay here, whatever time of...

A quiet little place to stay for the night. Snowy waters, while not the newest looking place around, it had a nice homely feel. The building had a warm feeling to it and the rooms were very clean and comfy. Sandy and her staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was in NZ for 3 and a half weeks, and...

Our family has been to Snowy Waters three years in a row - when we've come to Ruapehu to ski - and we have really enjoyed it. Sandy and her team are very friendly and welcoming and the house is warm and clean and great value. I'd recommend it to others.

Simply loved this place! Sandy's a wonderful host. We chose the lodge for its history and proximity to the ski fields and were not disappointed. Yes there is still work to be done but the lodge is a beautiful old building and we loved our 2 day stay, would have stayed longer if not booked out! Sandy had the spa...

Highly recommend this place. We went for a girls weekend and hired the villa and the people at snowy Lorde were fantastic!! We came home from a day at the snow to the smell of mulled wine cooking in the kitchen, and fresh eclairs. Such lovely people and the house it's self was wonderful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and we would love...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated within 5 acres of park-like grounds, Snowy Waters was once a Nurses Home for staff of the former Waimarino Hospital. We are owned and operated by kiwi's who are passionate about the outdoors. Our property is private and peaceful yet within easy walking distance of shops and cafes. Retiring is a historic timber town situated between two National Parks; Tongariro and Whanganui. We are constantly upgrading and improving our 75 year old character building but our landscaped grounds and unmatched views are complimented by friendly, helpful staff and clean facilities. Our main guest lounge is a wonderful, tranquil space which opens onto an extensive outdoor entertainment area with BBQ's, an outdoor fireplace and a wood-fired pizza oven. Self-catering facilities are available in our open-plan, rustic themed kitchen. In winter cosy fireplaces are lit prior to your arrival while European style central heating warms your room. Both guest lounges feature a 50" TV (with Sports channels). Outside we have a playground, an outdoor spa pool surrounded by rocks and Palm trees with views of Mt Ruapehu, a pet goat and the Snowy Train. In summer transport departs daily for the Tongariro Crossing. Other nearby activities include: Skiing and snowboarding Mt Ruapehu, Walking the Tongariro Northern Circuit, Jet boating or canoeing to the Bridge to Nowhere, Mountain biking on the Mountains to Sea cycle trail, golf, bird watching and trout fishing. ... more   less
