This place is perfect for getting down to the beach. I stayed with the intention of photographing the pier so it was handy to be so close. The shower pressure was extremely weak - I’m not sure if this was just during our stay or whether it is normal. Hopefully it’s not normal! Friendly, helpful staff and breakfast is included so that makes the price more reasonable.

We stayed for one night and that was enough. We have a family of two adults and two children both are young. The children were not in a room next to us but 4 doors down. Took ages to get them settled to sleep. We had booked for a return visit but we cancelled. We where obviously a bit late for brekky as there wasn't much to choose from. All in all very disappointing

We had room 7, a self contained room (had its own shower). The room was clean and well maintained, the bed linen clean and comfortable. We found the lodge noisy. The traffic noise, the occasional barking dog and doors opening and closing from the other guests. We didnt sleep too well. Breakfast was a continental buffet and there was a selection of cereals, toast and tea/coffee. Brightin beach and the pier is a nice stroll away

Pros: Comfortable double room at a good price. Free wifi which is fast in communal areas. Free continental breakfast (toast, some cereals, instant coffee, fruit juice) Nice staff Good sized communal areas Cons: Out the way - you definitely need a car to get to Christchurch Slightly dated

I was travelling solo, yet had a double aspect room with one double bed and one single, it was extremely comfortable and spacious. Staff are very accommodating and friendly, the garden is absolutely beautiful. This cost hostel prices and included a great breakfast. Felt very at home here, great place.

The rooms were very clean and the staff/owner were immediately welcoming and extremely helpful. There is a community kitchen which we were not afraid to leave our food in, and continental breakfast offered in a dining room each morning. The decor is old fashioned but lovely, with high ceilings and open windows. Our bed had an electric blanket and there was lots of space for clothes storage. Bed was relatively comfortable, but definitely aged. This is the only reason I didn't rate 5 stars! Despite this, it is a very good price for comfort and friendliness, always helping with visitor information, pamphlets and good conversation. Would happily stay again.

We feel this is more a backpackers, boutique hostel type accommodation. A building with history and character and comfortable rooms - ours had an en-suite. Great relaxing grounds, well equipped shared kitchen and the dinning room with a wood burner. Good value for money and would definitely stay again.

I really want to give this place 3.5 stars but that's not possible. There is nothing major wrong with it but it does have a few downsides. On the plus side, the room was big and airy, the wifi worked, the grounds were lovely and the breakfast, although a bit DIY, was more than adequate. The staff were pleasant and helpful. On the downside, the place was a bit tatty, nowhere near any pier that I could see, 5 -10 minutes walk from the beach and the town centre and lacked sufficient electrical sockets.
