My husband and I, along with my daughter and her partner visited Watersmeet farm in June this year 2021. Due to a series of unfortunate events I ended up having a brain haemorrhage. I had an ambulance come to the site at 6am and take me to Weston hospital, then on to Bristol south Meade. The owners of the site were absolutely amazing with my family. They went above and beyond their duty of campsite owners. Even offered to put our family up for free for them to come to see me the week afterwards. I would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to them both, and their support during such a stressful time just helped so much. So thank you from myself and my family for being such kind caring people. I would wholeheartedly recommend Watersmeet Farm, it’s a clean friendly site. A little girl next door sells marshmallows and logs for campers to buy, this is how kind this family are they allow the little girl to do that and tell the campers all about her. We are forever grateful, Thank you!

After 5 wonderful years making memories on this beautiful site, we were without explanation asked to leave by the new owners. When asked why we were ignored, very unprofessional. At first we found Rick and Alison to be friendly but soon found they can be rather two faced, bad mouthing us to other guests who actually asked us what we’d done to upset the owners as they’d warned them they’d have a more peaceful trip away from us. Again totally unprofessional and untrue. We have a 4 and 12 year old but they are well behaved and we ensure they don’t make noise after the ‘curfew’ times the owners have in place. The owners also bad mouthed other guests to us and admitted to lying about availability to not allow certain people on the site. We experienced this ourselves when trying to book over the summer and were told they were full only for a friend to book 2 full weeks at different times over the holidays a week later! We also found out later the site was not full and there would have been room for us. Very disappointing when you spend a lot of money storing a caravan only to find you can’t actually use it. We are so sad the new owners have ruined the feel of the site. We were there just a few weeks ago and they were chatty and friendly to us only to send us a blunt email telling us to leave just after. Gutless. Why not talk to us then? With no reasoning given by Rick as to why they’ve kicked us out I can only assume it’s because our faces don’t fit and we don’t conform to their prejudice ideas of what a ‘respectable’ family looks like. Being judged unfairly on appearances (myself and my husband have dyed hair and tattoos…clearly bad people!) had they given us a chance they’d know we are respectful, kind people who have treated that site as our second home for the last 5 years. They clearly dislike children and have made comments about other ‘rough families’ to us and how they were considering going child free so can only assume this added to their dislike of us. All round very disappointed and if they continue to treat people this way they will soon have no business left.

A lovely site ruined by new owners. We have stored our caravan here and used the campsite exclusively for the past 5 years but have been asked to leave suddenly and without explanation. It’s clear our faces didn’t fit from the moment the new owners took over. They have been happy to badmouth us to other campers, just as they have been happy to badmouth other campers to us. We have been wrongly accused of damaging the site, including on a bank holiday weekend when we weren’t even there and also of contributing to a drainage problem which has been ongoing since we’ve been using the site(and still isn’t fixed judging by the smell). This was all done by a ‘generic’ email that was only actually sent to myself and one other member of my family. My response was totally ignored, as was my response to the email informing us of the notice to remove our caravan from site. Unprofessional. The snobbery and pretentious attitude of owner Rick ( boutique site?🤣) has unfortunately created a negative vibe to the whole place whereby we felt unwelcome and on edge whilst there. This has been further exacerbated by the recent addition of almost comedic homemade signs instructing in which direction gates must be opened and which areas are (obviously) out of bounds. No doubt Rick will respond here in his usual manner and everything will be down to me and the type of people we are blah blah whatever but you only have to read his previous responses to any negative review to get a true measure of the man and his attitude towards others. The way you treat and speak to others says everything about you. The location will remain stunning and the basic facilities aren’t a major problem, your experience of this place will depend entirely on how Rick judges you as a person. We are sad to leave so many happy memories behind but are very much looking forward to enjoying our caravan again without having to encounter these unpleasant people. Within minutes in literally any direction from here you can find alternative sites which are child friendly, with better facilities and a much warmer welcome.

This will be the second trip to this site in the space of a month and half. In all honesty this is one of the best sites we have stayed at for its peacefulness. Its very spacious for its pitches and the owners do not pack visitors in like sardines. The site is flat, even and very well maintained. The grass smells great and is not too hard for pegging down our tent. Even though this site looks to be just off the A38 the pitches themselves are well away from the road and past their wonderful working farm so there would be no risk of children running out onto the road, of course families would need to supervise their children as there is machinery outside of the campsite itself as its a working farm. The owners Rick & Alison are lovely people and they cannot do enough for you. They work extremely hard to make your stay perfect. We are not from the area so were off to look for a place for breakfast and they suggested a wonderful cafe not far from their site and they bag on. They also have wonderful knowledge of their local area and what is about, so if you are in need of some advice, they will provide it for you. The Campsite itself has a shower/toilet block with both hot and cold water, chemical toilet waste and drinking water. They are cleaned at least twice a day, even more currently by the looks of it, I think due to covid so they can keep their customers safe. I cannot say enough for this site and I will 100% be back. This is in the perfect location if you wish to explore Somerset, Weston Super-mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Brean etc. 11/10 :):):):) After reading the other reviews on here and then comparing to our actual visits on two occasions, I can safely say that these other reviews must be complete and utter nonsense. This site is one of the best sites I have been to in recent years and we hjave been to quite a few! I can only assume that these 'other reviewers' didnt like their stay because they obviously didnt read what facilities the site had or ignored the fact that they are a working farm! To the ones making a point about the site owners having a word about their kids, it woiuld help if you actually supervise them in the first place so the owners did not have to notify you that your kids are climbing on LIVE farm machinery! What frustrates me is the amount of people that leave negative reviews becasue they fail to look after their own kids or follow the sites rules when they are clearly advertised. Or even better they have no wifi??? Your in a field, get a grip! Lastly, if you have an issue with something on site, dont wait until your stay is over and then resort to keyboard warriorism, why not grow up, act like an adult and speak to the site management like a grown upand get the issue resolved! These sites have simply turned into a stomping ground for people that didnt get their own way!!! This site is amazing and I would like to see Trip Advisor remove these negative reviews that could harm this wonderful small business. Also put something in place that allows the site to review the reviewer and make sure that actually stayed there and tried to resolve their problems on site instead of just moaning on here!!! #RantOver

Really saddened to see some of the comments below. We have stayed here more than once and our experience both times could not have been more different. The site has really well spaced pitches, with plenty of green space in the middle (unlike some sites we've been to where the middle areas are used to cram in more people.) The site is a working farm, which we love, with freshly laid eggs, eco friendly logs for sale and firepits to rent. There is access through the sheep field to the river and the site is also very close to cycle paths and walking trails - though we didn't use them because we were heading to other nearby attractions - it's handy for beaches, Cheddar Gorge, or just chilling out. In our experience, other campers on the field with children also absolutely loved it and the owners could not have been more helpful. The first time, they created an extra pitch for us when the site (and every other one in the area) was fully booked, because the place we were supposed to stay had double booked. This time, they recommended a local cafe for us to eat at and it was absolutely lovely. On both occasions, they took time to chat to us, and we also found lots of other friendly campers on site. The toilets and showers were absolutely immaculate, and genuinely seem to want all their guests to have a great holiday. Both our visits so far have been weekend breaks due to our workload, but we are determined to come back for a longer stay, there is so much to do in the area we can't possibly do it in a day.

Owners seem content to get campers backs up, this happened with several campers during our stay. Cctv in use & constant visits from the owners feels very encroaching. Did not enjoy our visit because of this. We hoped to put our Canadian canoe in the river, access extremely poor & virtually impossible.Told by owners the river was safe to swim in, access again extremely poor, lots of algae & long reeds in the water, as a strong swimmer I’d deem this unsafe. No 6mtr fire ruling between units. Never have we been TOLD to park our car away from the caravan. Accused of damage, but after a ground sheet has been down for two weeks what would you expect, grass will soon repair its self. Grass cuttings thrown at the side of our caravan and lounger during grass cutting without a care in the world. Shower should be included within the pitch price.

Response from Rick Bowley, Owner at Watersmeet Farm
Responded 2 Sep 2021
Thanks for your opinion. You were asked to park your vehicles at the carparking area on the campsite precisely because you infringed the FIRE regulations by parking them adjacent to the caravans/tents and not allowing 6 metres between pitches. This seemed to annoy you, so you proceeded to damage the turf by spinning your wheels when moving the vehicles. The site is covered by CCTV for everybody's security, notices inform you of this at the entrance, and we can see who is responsible if there is damage or subsequent complaints. We showed you where you could launch your boats from the field adjacent to the campsite, but this meant walking through the field of 10 sheep, to which you objected ( it is a working farm!) We then told you other sites you could launch directly from your vehicle onto the water, you told us you enjoyed boating at these sites. On our website and Facebook pages are photos of canoes being launched from our campsite onto the River Axe, and kids wild swimming/paddling in the very safe and clean water (so clean you can see the trout and the reeds keep it clean, its nature!) - some of the pictures were taken at the time of your stay! Check them out. We keep the campsite and pitches immaculate by daily visits, constant maintenance and cleaning, and we enjoy meeting with and talking to our guests, who regularly post reviews complementing our campsite and recommendations for local amenities, pubs, restaurants, activities etc - as you did when we told you about places to launch your boat from. So we can only assume that by asking you to respect the site Fire regulations and pointing out the damage your vehicles had made you decided to diss us with your review. This says everything about you. Good Luck! Oh and 20p for a hot shower is hardly expensive, is it?! Regards, Rick

We stayed in the recent half term holiday as a family in a caravan and had a wonderful time. The site is large, well mowed and most pitches have electric hook up. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and we loved the fire basket rental which allowed the children to have toasted marshmallows. The site is in a great location in the Mendip Hills close to Cheddar Gorge, Strawberry line and some great pubs in Cross and Axbridge. Would recommend.

My husband I stayed at Watersmeet Farm in our camper-van and had a very enjoyable time. The only downside was that there were not many people staying there and for a few days we were on our own. The site itself has beautiful views and not far away from Cheddar Gorge which was very dramatic. The owners were very friendly and made us very welcome.

Thanks for your review, glad you enjoyed it. We are a small, boutique campsite so like it quiet and family-orientated. And as a working farm, we have land and animals to look after too! All the best, Rick & Alison
