Overall review: A rustic setting in the forest that is about as close to the Calakmul ruins as you can get, but rather expensive considering the facilities and service. Strengths: 1. Its location relatively close to the Calakmul Reserve and ruins is a major strength considering there are no major towns nearby. The hotel is fairly easy to get to...

this place is in the middle of nowhere, yet, it's beautiful and the staff are awesome! presumably you're considering this hotel as your homebase for exploring the local ruins. water pressure was a little low (typical for the region though). food was great. coffee was great. rooms were amazing! be aware that you're staying in the jungle, so things like...

Hotel Puerta Calakmul is located right at the entrance to the reserve for the Mayan ruins of Calakmul - great location! The bungalows are well appointed with excellent beds and bathrooms. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the ambiance of being in the jungle with some creature comforts. All of the beds had very nice mosquito netting and created a...

This hotel is in a perfect place for visiting the archeological site of Calakmul. As the name says it is at the door of the first gate. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect as it allows you to get up early for site visit and rest after a long hot day. The hotel arranged for our guide who was...

The atmosphere here is very nice, rooms are nice, but for 200$USD!!!!! per night I expect the following: -english spoken personell (failed) -good wifi (failed) -clean pool (failed) -good service (failed) it is a simple hotel with nice make up, but nothing behind. maximum worth 100$USD. but only because of the close location to Calakmul Temple. Better book a room...

We had a group retreat at the hotel in February 2017 and it was absolutely enchanting. Gary and his staff went out of their way to accommodate our group at the hotel and help us find knowledgeable local guides for bird watching and visiting the archeological sites. Coordinating a group can be challenging but the people and Hotel Puerto Calakmul...

Highly recommend Hotel Puerto Calakmul. The setting is beuatiful - the cabins tucked into the forest. The dining area is screened so you can enjoy the forest and birds while you eat. Food is great and the service lovely. Gary who runs it is very congenial and accommodating. The pool is lovely. Rooms are clean and attractive, using natural materials...

Welcomed by Gary New Year's Eve who set our trip to rights with great recommendations and a cancelled room. Fine food and cabin with mosquito nets. Used Enrique for a birdwatching tour of the site the next day ... a great birder and patient and excellent guide to the site and surrounds.

The Mayan ruins, when we were there, were simply incredible. We had the place to ourselves...almost...and the atmosphere was fantastic. Silence. And birds. Saw toucans, parrots, morpho butterflies, oceolated Turkeys and both spider and howler monkies. The road down is a nightmare with the pot holes so stick to the 30 km per hour speed limit. The hotel staff are...

So if you rather stay in an all-inclusive compound, afraid to come out because you never know what these Mexiricans are up to and customs forbid you to bring your beloved AR': fine. But this hotel is fun. It's right at the first entrance gate to Calakmul (there is another one after 20 kilometers), a little hidden in the woods....
