Don’t be fooled by the images on booking.com it is nowhere near what you see. The only way I can describe the room is 50 shades of stains. Bed covers were disgusting and I am pretty sure someone died on the curtains. The smell……don’t even get me started, old ash tray springs to mind. All of this aside we stayed for one night and usually I wouldn’t have complained I would just leave and get on with my life. However after an altercation at the reception with a man who told me his job title is “in charge at the moment” I thought I would share my experience. The night before we told the receptionist we would like breakfast. We didn’t get charged. In the morning I called and my question was had we ordered breakfast the man on the phone said it was all paid for and it went on till 10.30. When we saw the breakfast we decided it wasn’t for us so I went to ask for a refund. The man said we hadn’t paid. Now to me I am thinking well that’s easy I didn’t pay and I don’t want it, for him he was more interested in shouting that he hadn’t told me it was paid for and I was putting words into his mouth. He did this in an aggressive manner with a raised voice. While the receptionist sat there smirking….highly infuriating. So I did get my back up and I ended up shouting back. (If you read the reviews this is not a one off) the staff seem to enjoy shouting at paying guests. At the end of the day it was a positive outcome but he made it far from positive, maybe a crash course in customer service good be of use

My wife and I decided that we needed a short break away in the Indian Summer weather we were getting, so I did a search on Booking.com for properties in the Southend-on-Sea area, and this one looked to be good value for money. I did my usual checks of having a look at the location of the hotel on Google Maps and also Streetview, and was a bit concerned that it was located near an industrial estate and very close to the airport. I had a read of some of the TripAdvisor reviews, some of which gave it the thumbs up, so we decided to book it as the two nights were only going to cost £126 on Booking.com, which was the rate for a double room without breakfast. When we arrived, although I had looked at the hotel on Streetview and other photos, I was fearing the worst, as the kerb appeal of the hotel is not too good to say the least. I parked up in the weed filled and rubbish strewn car park and we went into reception to book in. This was a really easy procedure and we were soon checked in by the pleasant receptionist. Our room was across the car park from reception in the annex. First impressions of the room were good as it was very large and looked immaculate, with a good standard of decoration and maintenance. Everything was there to make our two night stay quite a comfy affair. The bed was large, with a comfortable mattress, but the pillows were cheap polyester, and were uncomfortable and lumpy. We made do and didn’t complain or ask for better pillows, so don’t know if there were any better available. The bedding looked clean and fresh, however when we pulled the quilt back there was a long black hair on the sheet. It did initially gross us out, but as the bedding smelt fresh we assumed that it was from the head of the maid and simply got rid of it. We slept very well during our stay, and the hotel is very quiet, with only the occasional plane noise coming from the airport, but the sound is muted, so no real problem. There was plenty of kit to make a brew, and all of the crockery and kettle appeared clean, but we always wash them before use anyway. The TV was a large flat screen on an articulated arm, so no problems watching TV in bed of a night or in the room whilst getting ready to go out. The picture quality was also good. The ensuite was a good size, with a shower, washbasin and toilet. The shower cubicle was a fairly small square, and any person that is carrying some extra weight might find it a problem to shower properly, or even get in the shower in the first place. There was plenty of shower gel and hand soap in the ensuite. The towels were a good size, but had seen better days – one in particular was rather threadbare, although they were changed out for fresh, better quality ones on the second day of our stay. The shower didn’t have a non-slip mat, and was quite slippy, so care needs to be taken when having a shower. The ensuite could definitely do with a shelf as there is simply nowhere to put your washbag or anything else that you want at hand. There is an air conditioning unit in the room but it was fairly useless. Way past the time for maintenance. It was 28 degrees Celsius on all three days we were in town, and the evenings were hot and sticky, but even with the fan on full blast you were just getting a gentle waft of semi-cold air. We paid £8 each for the hotel’s continental breakfast, and we considered that it was really good value for money. There was a really good selection of food for even the fussiest of eaters, and we filled up enough to easily see us through until lunchtime. I think that we got what we paid for, and the hotel was a good base for exploring the area, but I can’t give it above an average score overall, as it definitely wasn’t excellent or even very good.

The rooms were clean. The mattress was soft and comfy but the pillows were hard and horrible. (Bring you own pillows for comfort) The room smelt very musty. The air con unit in the room wasn't great we had to open the window. Wouldn't want to stay there in a heat wave. We stayed here for 1 night for a party at a relatives near by. It's ok for the odd night but really needs refreshing and updating

Me and my boyfriend came to stay at this hotel after I just found out I was pregnant and wanted a night away to relax. We was far from relaxed. From 11pm till 10am when we left the hotel we was nothing but stressed. The people next door to us partied in there room till about 6am who also had friends up the corridor who where in and out of both bedrooms constantly. We had to call reception TWICE who was barely helpful. I even had to go speak to the people myself and kindly asked them to keep their noise down this was about 2am the guy was so high on drugs I don’t think he even understood what I said. We was kept awake the WHOLE NIGHT. In the morning when i went to reception baring in mind I advised I was pregnant I was SHOUTED at by the manager who nearly brought me to tears telling me I should have called reception and refused me a refund for the night!!!!!! After getting my point across after about 10 mins I was given a refund but I was near begging for the refund. The noise of the doors, the noise of other customers and the unprofessionalism of the “manager” was just shocking. To be shouted at by a man who could clearly see I had bags under my eyes and was upset was disgusting.
