We have just spent the weekend at The Star Inn, as our daughter was getting married at Sulgrave Manor. The food was lovely, rooms very clean and comfortable and the hosts very friendly. Would highly recommend this pub.

Had a family dinner here at the weekend and it was fantastic. The burgers were awesome and the chips were described by my girlfriend as little crunchy potato cases stuffed with fluffy mashed potato! Will definitely be eating here again, great venue for an occasion.

Hired all 4 bedrooms above the pub for a weekend with family. Tom has recently taken over the running of the pub and is clearly keen to please and make guests feel welcome. We took the whole upstairs and had the lovely backroom for dinner and breakfast, also suing the bar in the evenings. Hook Nortons beers on tap are...

Visited The Star last week for lunch and a gossip with an old friend. The food was delicious and the atmosphere could not have been better. I will be bringing my husband next time to sample the beer. It was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be back.

Our old favourite pub is back to its best. Popped in for impromptu lunch and we enjoyed superb fish and chips with a Hooky and lovely salmon on rye bread. Wishing New publicans Tom and Chris a very successful 2017.

Met friends here as convenient post xmas "halfway" point. Lovely old pub, welcomed us plus dogs, hospitable friendly hosts. Good Hook Norton beers and very good pub grub. Good walks from door and very close to Sulgrave Manor. Highly recommend.

Called in here on the way back from canons Ashby. Very traditional pub, low ceilings great beers and fresh food. Overall very happy. A couple of things we thought they could improve on. Having a roll with soup etc. Nothing major. Friendly staff and nice beers made it a real treat for us. Thanks

Super place in lovely little village. Food was good staple pub food. Kids enjoyed the games and puzzles in the lounge. Plenty of nooks and crannies to talk or soak up the atmosphere over a drink. The local corner shop is well stocked if you are staying in the village. Great base to explore middle England.

My wife and I had lunch here today for our 34th wedding anniversary , all three courses very nice, onion rings and the rib eye highly recommended. Good choice of Hooky beers which kept me happy, and the apple and rhubarb crumble was also very nice, all staff very friendly and attentive. Not overpriced, and we would visit again.

Stayed one Thursday night en route to Kent from the North West. Takes a while to absorb all the quaint, quirky decor. Pub closes from 3.0pm to early evening but once having checked in, one has a key to the front door to allow access. Bedroom overlooking main road was on the small side, the double bed dominating the room....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The three hundred year old 'Star Inn' sits in an idyllic village on the borders of South Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, ideally located for visiting the many attractions available in the heart of England or simply escaping for a peaceful and relaxing weekend in the country. Believed to be the only know pub to be visited by the legendary actor John Wayne whilst on tour of nearby Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of the first president of the United States George Washington. On a visit to Sulgrave in 1889 the honourable William Taft, Chief Justice of America said, "Sulgrave is a charming little spot only hidden in the loveliness of its seclusion, with the old Star inn by the roadside a relic of bygone days when comforts were plain and ale was plenty." The Star is where people matter and whether you are staying in one of our comfortable en-suite bedrooms, dining in the oak beamed restaurant or just having a drink you will be made to feel welcome by all the staff who will ensure your time with us is enjoyable. Gillie and Barry welcome friends old and new. ... more   less
