The resort itself is beautiful. Food is ok. Drinks not that great. The days we visited we couldn’t enjoy the beach because of the weather but that is just Mother Nature. We settled for the pools which are nice. I have visited plenty of all inclusive resorts around the world and kind of know what to expect. Unfortunately, I was unpleasantly surprised with this one. Usually, after a long trip even though check in is at 3:00pm in my other experiences they let you in the lobby. Other resorts make you feel welcome from the beginning. They let you relax and serve you drinks until your room is ready. Not this one! We arrived around 1:30pm after a long drive (7 hours) with a group of 15 including my 85 year old mother at the gate they told us we had to wait outside until 2:30pm. Why ??? I don’t get it. They should at least make you wait at the lobby. One good thing I do have to mention is that they did give me a ground floor for my mom upon request. Because this resort has a lot of stairs if you are on one of the top floors be prepare to do a lot of up and down stairs. The rooms were nice big and clean. The food was standard resort food. Since we were a big group it was hard trying to make reservations for the specialty restaurants. We had to split our group. We ate at the Acantilado. Seafood was good. Now the drinks need a lot of improvement. Resorts in general serve the cheapest liquor but usually have the local beer which I was looking forward to. NO PILSENER OR CLUB what a disappointment. My family and I are Ecuadorean and we speak Spanish so we can communicate with the staff. International resorts usually have bilingual staff. Honestly, Besides the manager I don’t know if anyone else speak another language. Overall it was a 50/50 experience. Like I said before the location and facilities itself are superb, food is as expected. Drinks need a lot of improvement, customer service was standard. Definitely not 5 stars. I’ll give it 3.

Stay there from Friday 27 til January first. I didn´t have too much expectations, but it was actually better than I expected, the best: The animation team, they do their best for the guest to have a great time. The dancers were really good, and the shows were funny. The rooms and the view we get, were great! Long stairs, so if you have some problems walking, make sure to get a room not that high. The food was good, not great, but good, I really recommend the Miso restaurant, Alcantilado, doesn´t serve enough food, and the italian restaurant didn´t have pizzas or cheese for the spaggethi. The pools are great, and the place even with a lot of guest doen´t fill full. We did 2 activities: Kayak through the manglar, it was a great experience, and the tour guide was really cool, we also did a tour to the Jupiter Island, it was also great, we did snorkel, we didn´t see much, just a snake, but it was fun. The bad side: if you arrive before the check in time, they make pay to use the instalations! Yo have to pay for wifi in the rooms. They only have 3 restaurants, besides the buffet, the reservations start at 8 am, we went there at 7:20 am, and there was already a line, at 8 they start giving turns in the order you arrive, they should start giving this turns the minute you get there, we couldn´t leave, and we have to stay there waiting for 40 minutes until it was 8 am when they finally gave us the turns. We spend there new years eve, the orchestra was´t too good, there weren´t enough tables for all the people there, we had to get our own chairs and tables.

It's a beautiful hotel, with excellent attention, delicious food, and cold drinks. It is totally recommended. The specialty restaurants offer you delicious food, personalized attention, and a buffet of salads. The private beach also has a private restaurant and a bar.

The view/location is amazing!!! Loved it. The hotel is big, well preserved and food was good. I think they usually have more variety but they used some space to ensure biosecurity measures.
The hotel service was outstanding. I planned to propse to my girlfriend here and they here so attentive and helpful.Juan Carlos Bastidas, the service head I think, was in constant communication with me to ensure the experience was great.
I took the candles and flowers there but they were very helpful with the setting and menu.

If you want to rest could be a good choice, forget about hotel services like drinks, food, etc. Bad food, bad restaurants, there are not sports implements. Pray for good weather cuz the temperated pool is a lie.

Visited the Decameron Mompiche resort this past Memorial Day, and I have to say that I was very disappointed. Two years ago I stayed at the Decameron Marazul in San Andres Island, Colombia, and in comparison, this resort was far inferior. I’ll list my pros and cons, and allow the reader to decide for him/herself, but I would invest my money elsewhere.

Pros:

The property is absolutely beautiful. Very aesthetically appealing.
Isabel (one of the managers) made out whole trip. She was competent, polite, courteous, gracious and welcoming. She even flew to Quito to usher our travel group into the second part of our vacation. She was with us for almost the whole trip; always the first one there and the last to leave. I felt bad because it seemed like she was always present and never went home. But she went out of our way to make us feel like truly welcomed guests.

Francisco is an amazing tour guide! Full of energy a lot of fun! Suzanne is a great guide as well. Make sure you have her if you take a tour to Cojimies.

Speaking of which, when on the Cojimies tour, be sure to stop my the Restaurant Safir, an small outdoor restaurant that right on the water as soon as you dock. The fried shrimp is awesome!
The sushi at the Japanese restaurant is really good, and I’m not a big sushi eater (the rest of the food though, not so great)

Cons:
Unfortunately, that was the most I saw of Cojimies. We did not get to tour the island. We left soon after we ate; I think it may have been a schedule or time issue between the guides and the resort, but I never did learn the exact reason.
The food o the resort is reminiscent of a cafeteria… bland, not very creative and some of it just didn’t look appealing at all.
The front desk staff is not very competent (even if you speak Spanish, which I do). There are very few English speaking staff members, so if you are going to stay here, you might want to brush up on some travel Spanish, although it will only help so much. You have to ask them to bring you someone who speaks English, and even still, there is no guarantee that your needs will be met.

Keep your receipts or get receipts if you get a room safe of put a deposit on the phone. I pre-paid a deposit for the safe for 5 days (Although I was only staying 4), and they still charged me for an extra day, saying that I had not paid the amount that I said I had. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a receipt when I put down the deposit, so I just paid the few dollars to be rid of the headache.
The resort is large and there are no elevators or escalators. Be prepared to walk everywhere.
Bring food with you. There are periods between breakfast and lunch, and lunch and dinner, where nothing on the resort is open. Everything shuts down to prepare for the next meal, so if you go out on an all-day excursion, don’t expect to come back to the resort to have a nice meal. You will be disappointed. And since this resort is literally in the middle of nowhere (2 hour bus ride on partially paved, bumpy mountain roads from the Esmereldas airport), there is nowhere for you to go and grab a bite to hold you over until dinner. Also, there begin to take the food away 30-45 minutes before the posted time the meal is supposed to end, so get there early.
There are several beautiful pools on the resort, but there are only open between 10 am and 6 pm, nightly. The pools are lighted and one overlooks the oceans, Night swimming would be ideals, but they do not permit swimming after 6 p.m.
There is no spa (which you’ll need after all the walking you have to do!).
Do not expect to sleep in. They start groundskeeping, lawn maintenance and pool cleaning at the crack of dawn.
You cannot drink the water, so practice showering with your mouth closed. They do provide bottled water however, for you to drink/brush your teeth.
The tours/excursions lack some very significant details. Two examples:
The Tsachilas community tour- it involves an 8 hour total bus ride (4 hours coming and going). The tours itself, however, is only about 90 minutes. It is more like a sneak peek than a tour. The Tsachila people are very warm and friendly, but it is not an in depth tour, so you will have to decide if those 90 minutes are worth the ride. (Since I’m very much into learning about other cultures, it was worth it for me, but I would have thought twice, had I known I’d be spending a third of my day on a bus).
The Mache Chindul Waterfalls- since the resort supplies rubber boots, it is not necessary to pack your own hiking boots (contrary to what the brochure says). You will need a long sleeved shirt though, because of all the trees and plants you may brush up against while walking/riding (some may be poisonous). You will be on a horse for 5 hours total (it’s about a 2 and a half hour ride one way), and most likely you will be in a wooden saddle with little or no cushion. Be prepared; your glutes will be unhappy with you the next few days. This much more of a grueling excursion that it seems on paper, but it is a lot of fun. Don’t forget to bring your own water!

If you have done (or plan to do) the Mache Chindul Waterfalls excursion, there is no need to do the Eco Hike or the Horseback Riding on the Beach excursion: it’s overkill. You will not want to ride another horse or see any more nature after the waterfalls tour; it takes care of both needs in one trip.

The beaches are gorgeous, but overall useless. There is a colored flag system that lets you know what the conditions of the beach are and if it is safe to swim. The whole time I was there, the beaches were indicated as ‘dangerous’ and not conducive for swimming. There was either rough surf or it was plagued by jellyfish (The jellyfish were such a problem that they cancelled all of the snorkeling tours!)
There are no clocks in the rooms. Bring a watch or a cell phone.

Mompiche in Ecuador, what a joke! Go there if you like to be treated badly. The Regional Manager did not know that you can make reservations at their own web site ! He promised a refund after, get this: we were told, when we arrived, that the reservation was cancelled because it was a day earlier, then, because we did not pay (I had proof in my PC that I made a deposit in their account) Then they told us if I can prove it, they will let me stay. I did that from their own office computer, and they did not. They made me pay again, with my credit card, with the promise of a refund, when they see my deposit posted by their bank. Then the ride started: your room is given to you after 4:00 PM. No wonder so many people were at the lobby (all pissed). So if you arrive earlier, no room, no food. Then you have to make reservations to eat, you miss it, you eat a sandwich. Then our room had a broken AC, which according to the AC tech, the hotel knew before hand. We finally got another room at midnight. To keep cool we went to the pool (they have several) and, oh surprise! they close at sundown (for maintenance, daily!) We went to the disco, but all seats were “reserved” by whoever tips the waiter first. The so called entertainment (video, table soccer, pool table) closes al 10:30 PM. So, nothing to do. Bars close as well. Needless to say, to get my refund I had to call the several times, and finally I had to go to their main office in Quito to get a check, 3 weeks later……and I live in Atlanta ! Shame on them ! The local police told me that the place is being investigated, no wonder.

My husband daughter and I wanted to stay at this hotel. My husband wanted to enter the hotel to inquire about vacancies and price - it took him 10 minutes of talking to the guard just to get in! Once in the hotel was OK, but nothing spectacular. The price was 110 dollars per night per person -330 dollars for one night!!! The receptionist was rude and the staff unfriendly and unhelpful
Top London hotels let you enter to ask for the price and see the room - this hotel was really reluctant to let us do that! DO NOT STAY THERE!
We went to the hotel down the road (Bernabeth) much nicer and the staff are great and facilities good

Yes. You could go to what is the bus terminal in Carcelen and take a bus from a company called trans Esmeraldas. I would take it to Atacames. When you are in Atacames, go the office of Decameron there and ask for transportation it will be a lot easier.

Answer from FrankPIntor

Esmeraldas airport, one flight per day from Guayaquil in an ATR, I believe the same from Quito in a jet. The airport is very basic, there's a small self-service restaurant in a corner, and that's it. 2 hour drive from the airport to the hotel. Not 20 mins, whoever wrote that has never, ever been to the hotel. The hotel has a transfer service. Lots of sleeping policemen on the way.
