The hotel is very grand and pleasing to look at. We booked as a double room but on check-in were given a small suite of rooms, which was gratefully received. There were some refurbishments and builders working on the upper floors but they were polite and did not disturb us at all. The accommodation was clean and spotless everywhere we walked in the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, the linen of good quality, so lovely to sleep on. The hotel has lovely grounds to walk around and has a golf course which is well maintained. Staff were friendly and always seemed happy to serve. We had afternoon tea which was exceptionally lovely, with good quality sandwiches and beautiful and interesting pasties and cakes. The scones also were tasty. Plenty of tea and coffee. We had breakfast on two mornings. One day was completely buffet including the cooked, and the 2nd was buffet and waited service for the cooked. Melanie, Anna and Claudia were lovely, helpful and are all assets to the hotel with their pride and care in their work. Such a delight these days to experience staff seemingly happy in their work. The lounge is really large and quite dark in the evenings. The two fires were lit but didn't really help with clients' entering and leaving and mostly leaving the main doors open causing a blast of cold air as the weather outside was unfavourable. However, our accommodation was gorgeous so we made good use later in the evenings to make the most of it. Well done Broome Park and all who work in the hotel. My husband and I wish you all well and a prosperous year. We went to Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Canterbury during those days.

Inevitably all hotels need refurbishing and the Broome Park Hotel is certainly no exception. In general, the management team will then make a decision whether to close the complete hotel for the duration or, alternatively, carefully plan the works such that the guests are unaffected by the works in progress. Unfortunately, the BPH management ignored common-sense and decided to go ahead with major refurbishment with absolutely no regard for those people who had paid good money to stay, and who ended up disappointed and annoyed. I see from other reviews that we were not the only ones who were given no prior warning of the works and found therefore on arrival day that no alternative accommodation was available. A complaint was made to the front desk but the request to see the manager was answered with a reply that “he was in a meeting”. [Needless to say, he did not make any effort to contact me during the two-night stay.] Mention has been made by others of having to negotiate a very narrow staircase carrying suitcases with exposed gripper bars. Every time we passed the top of the main staircase, we removed the wedge holding the fire door open and every time we returned it was wedged again. The HSE would be very interested in what is going on here! Another review mentioned being woken during the night by a false call from the fire-alarm. We were woken no fewer than three times! This was reported to the desk and to the duty manager but there was only the most perfunctory of apologies. [A well-planned maintenance project would have ensured that the sensors were protected from the inevitable dust and paint fumes that were responsible for the false alarms.] It’s such a shame to have to complain on what should really be a lovely hotel. The serving staff were friendly and the breakfasts and afternoon tea were excellent – albeit marred by rainwater coming through the ceiling from the floor above! The dinner, however, which we had on just one evening was very poor with a limited menu choice and food that was distinctly unappetizing. It’s very unusual for me not to finish a main course and not to order a dessert but this was a case in point. If the management of this hotel are unable to keep just two guests happy for a short stay, I would be very unhappy with trusting them to a larger function. We will not be returning.

This was the first time we have stayed at Broome Park and we had a Travelzoo package including afternoon tea. The hotel looks very impressive as you approach the main building, unfortunately this belies the chaos and poor service that we experienced inside the hotel. We had been informed by email a few days prior to our stay that because the hotel was undergoing renovation, our room was now unavailable and we would be staying in a luxury lodge instead. What the email failed to mention is that the lodges are about half a mile from the hotel, we were allocated the furthest one away from the hotel and the parking, and also our friends that we had booked with were in fact still in the hotel so we were not exactly staying together. The room allocated to our friends was completely unacceptable as it was in the part of the hotel still being renovated, so they were expected to climb a staircase with no carpet but with gripper rods that were full of nails, the paint all along the corridor was still wet, there were workman everywhere and no safe route to the room - absolutely no HSE rules in place whatsoever. The man (boy?) on reception really couldn’t have cared less when our friends discussed the unacceptable room, he did grudgingly move them to a lodge but only for one night so that they had to move again on Saturday morning - not the luxury hotel experience we had been led to expect when we booked. We returned to the lodges on Saturday night after having been out for dinner to find that someone else was parked in our allocated parking space, there was no where else to park and had to get someone from the hotel to come to find us a place to park, which was even further away from our lodge. It was truly a very poor experience at Broome Park and one that means we would not want to return to what could be a luxury hotel if it was properly managed.

Had booked a two day travelzoo “luxury” break. On arrival we were advised that some work was being carried out but we were told our room was on the top floor which entailed climbing several staircases which were stripped of carpet but still had gripper rods in place. Quite dangerous. The room was big but badly in need of updating. Rotten, crumbling, skirting board in the bathroom, and devoid of any decoration. The place was ful of workman and smelt of paint. We asked to be moved but all that was available was a lodge some way from the hotel. The lodge was much better and was comfortable but not the luxury stay we had anticipated.

Potentially a very nice place. Afternoon tea and breakfasts were excellent and service in the restaurant was friendly, helpful and efficient. Have to say, though, that dinner food quality was mediocre. Rooms we had were spacious ( and that`s an understatement in relation to our friends` room which was enormous!). Overall our 2 night stay was let down by the fact that there were major decorating and carpet renewals going on while we were there. Great for future guests but the really strong smell of drying paint from nearby corridors and stairways was ever-present in our rooms and not very pleasant. No apologies were offered for this disruption. We would visit again in the future when all works are (hopefully) done, but would be hesitant about taking dinner unless we had evidence/assurance that the quality had improved.

Couldn't fault this hotel! Stayed here for 2 nights, in a 2 bed lodge whilst visiting Canterbury. Dom at reception was very helpful, check in was very easy. Perfect location, very peaceful. The lodge was perfect, private, so roomy, great living facilities, extremely comfortable bed, good heating, great shower, spotlessly clean, very short walk to the main hotel through lovely woodland and gardens. Breakfast was excellent, as was afternoon tea. Had dinner in the beautiful newly decorated restaurant, lovely food and excellent attention from Karen our waitress, who gave us tips for our trip to Canterbury, which we were very grateful for. Dom and Karen were very knowledgeable on the hotel's history. Beautiful hotel in fantastic setting and the staff made it perfect, would highly recommend this hotel

We were at the Broomepark in March as a couple's get away, which we have not done in a decade. The estate is a lovely and enjoyed your woodland walks and tennis courts. What we were less happy with were a number of things I will now write below. There was construction work going on in the mansion room areas, where we had to walk through corridors that were under going construction with lots of dust and fumes throughout our stay. We would have expected at least some note of this before booking to make customers aware of the situation but were not. What was worse was that our room also had a lot of dust and fumes inside the room, which we tried to remove through opening windows etc., but were not successful which unfortunately meant that I was up all night coughing out the dust/fumes. Secondly, the decor of the room was quite dated and not what we expect from a 4 star hotel. For example, lighting in the living room part of the room was this super bright light you would expect in a school canteen. The water pressure of the bath was so low, it took us about half an hour to fill the tub just a few inches. We also noted damp/serious mold next to windows /walls, as well as parts of the room where there was obvious need for maintenance - e.g. seals being broken. The room was very cold and they put incredibly noisy fan heaters but they were small and too noisy to keep on for long. This was not helped by the fact that some of the facilities of the hotel, such as the sauna were not working without any explanations or much of an apology. The garden was not kept and had bits of it blocked off as I think they were falling apart. Finally, probably the worst part of our stay was that we were woken up violently at 1-1:30 am due to a faulty fire alarm (which they could not sort out even till the next morning I saw) - which meant we had to evacuate from our rooms for about half an hour or longer . There was not even an apology from the staff - neither during the night, or in the morning - when asked about it - the receptionist just said oh yeah they heard something. When we approached the manager about this - they said the head manager was away and then just ignored our emails and was not given any serious apology nor any reimbursement for the above mentioned issues. Given this I would not recommend this place to visit. It is a pity as the grounds and the hotel could be so nice but it just not up to scratch - and definitely no worth the price they are charging. There are other lovely hotels and bed and breakfast that are much better around the area.

Dear travelling-earthling Thank you for your review and I sincerely apologise on this occasion for our failings. Of course the fire alarm sounding is for our guests and staff safety at all times. As you mention I was away from the hotel at the time and I am sorry if your emails were not passed onto me in the normal manner, which I will investigate. Please allow me to contact your directly within the next few days. With kind regards Mark Yates General Manager

A lovely hotel in the middle of the Kent countryside and well worth a visit. A warm welcome from reception, a great suite for our 2 night stay (an unexpected surprise), all staff we came in contact with were very pleasant and helpful. Whilst there is renovation work going on in some of the bedrooms we didn’t find it intrusive on our stay. Please be aware, as this is a Grade 1 listed property, that there are no lifts - we were advised of this when we booked. We found there was a great choice for breakfast. We had supper in the restaurant one evening but settled for a sandwich in the bar on our second evening as the afternoon tea (which included in our Travelzoo offer) left us feeling too full up!! If you have time a visit to the lovely old village of Chilham is well worth a visit - roughly 30 mins drive from hotel.

The hotel is having major refurbishments at the moment. We stayed on a deal for our 45th Anniversary. we were given a suite at the top of the hotel with a living room bedroom and separate bathroom, with lovely views of the grounds. the offer came with a cream tea which was a lovely start to the break. Staff at reception were very nice . We stayed for evening meal and although a limited menu, was very nice. The breakfast menu was varied with lovely choices. Good area to stay to see around the Kent Coast.

Went on a Travelzoo deal for three nights and very impressed - even though the builders were in and a major refurbishment was taking place, it didn't affect the enjoyment of our stay. No negative comments at all, the building is wonderful and staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.
