The Pig-at Bridge Place hotel garners appreciation for its exceptional service and spotless accommodations. Nestled in a picturesque location ideal for scenic dining and exploration, the historic manor's atmosphere is frequently described as charming and cozy, with festive events enhancing the experience. Spacious rooms with unique decor also receive commendations, although comfort levels have been a concern for some guests. While the amenities are generally celebrated, especially the gastronomic offerings and the beautiful grounds, opinions on value for money are mixed, with a few guests feeling the prices are steep.

Whats in a name? Having stayed at the ‘PIG’ over two nights you begin to realise that the ethos of this establishment is that it’s the ‘experience’ which should stand for itself and not necessarily the hotel name. It does make you wonder about your decision making process when booking hotels. The PIG is excellent offering a country house viz hotel experience. This location goes one step further by providing luxury wooden chalets called ‘Hop pickers Huts’ situated in a wooded area of the grounds by a clear running stream. If you are mesmerised by the growing number of Scandinavian TV programmes, then the experience of staying in one of these huts may just be for you! Our hut was very cosy and comfortably equipped, hut 1 and 5 followed by 7 provide a little more privacy in location than the others. A notable feature of this establishment is that Staff are very proactive in ensuring that you have an excellent stay, the staff to client ratio is notably good as well. I Thoroughly recommend a stay at The ‘PIG’.

We spent two nights here to celebrate an anniversary. We stayed in hop pickers hut (7 is the most private). Room was very cute and comfortable although very dark. Amazing shower, comfy bed. Minibar has been stripped of all food? Covid? No biscuits or anything to have with tea. On our first morning we went to make tea and the milk was sour.
Had a really lovely massage.
Most staff were very lovely and professional but twice we asked to be seated on the terrace at breakfast and dinner and were told we couldn’t because they were full, so I made a last plea for our last morning and this wasn’t communicated.
My biggest gripe is that at £400 a room breakfast isn’t included which just feels tacky. We had the ‘light’ breakfast both mornings, cold toast with a tiny bit of butter and croissants served with marmalade as the only preserve? We went on to another hotel after The Pig where for £200 we had a tray of teas coffees and whisky in our room and a massive unusual choice of breakfast included.
Lastly our bill had a charge for £60 of wine which we hadn’t ordered.
Overall a lovely stay but at those prices I think a bit more generosity and a bit less money grubbing is needed.

We had booked a stay here a couple of time last year, but due to covid both were postponed, so this was a long awaited short break.

We had booked into one of the hop picker huts and we were not disappointed, the room impeccable, nice welcome back note, using first names.

The room is large with a separate shower and loo but with a feature free standing bath in the bedroom. I still have never used the bath but the shower is a true monsoon shower.

In the room there is a fridge, with fresh milk, biscuits and tea and coffee making facilities are available (although only two EBT tea bags]

DAB radio and TV so everything you could ask for.

Very comfortable bed, with some very good feather free pillows (available on request) and because of our allergies the cushions on the settee were removed to ensure no reactions.

Only criticism, as with all Pig hotels breakfast is extra,£13.59 each for the breakfast table, and an extra £5 each for cooked which give the cost of the rooms it is a bit of a cheek but given their occupancy rates people are happy to pay it.

Would we go back, well yes it has already been booked

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Pig with our baby daughter last weekend as we were attending a local wedding.

Starting with the positives, the hotel itself is beautiful and our room, one of the bigger rooms in the main house, was incredibly grand. There was a lovely free standing bath in the bedroom next to two enormous windows looking out onto the picturesque grounds. There was also an absolutely incredible monsoon shower in the en suite bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the staff were very kind in bringing us food to our room when our little girl was too poorly to go to the restaurant. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night on the heated terrace which was lovely. The food and service that evening were great and we really had a fantastic evening.

Now for the downsides - attention to detail is seriously lacking in respect of general service. In terms of the food, on the first morning at breakfast I asked for a bowl for my daughter and a waiter brought me a dirty bowl. I pointed this out and he proceeded to give me another dirty bowl (stating that despite being dirty it had just come out the dishwasher). At this point I gave up and cleaned the bowl myself. On the second day at breakfast my husband and I ordered eggs royale and our eggs were raw which isn’t acceptable. As we were checking out we didn’t have time to send the food back but it was very disappointing. A number of items we ordered weren’t actually brought to us either. In respect of the room itself - there was wood flooring but no slippers provided which wasn’t ideal and meant we had to wear socks/shoes the whole time. There were also a large number of flies and mosquitos in our room that we weren’t expecting and ended up spending quite a bit of time getting rid of. On our second night we could hear a lot of noise after midnight that sounded like a party which made it difficult to sleep. We requested that our room be cleaned on the first day and none of the toiletries and items like water/milk were restocked so we had to spend time calling for basic items that it was clear we were running out of eg soap.

With a little tweaking this hotel could be perfect but it’s got a little way to go and with no leisure facilities paying over £300 a night for a room (excl any food) is not good value for money!!

Restaurant review only: I love the sense of arrival at The Pig, the entrance, the tree-lined driveway with the house in the distance. All Covid restrictions were in place and clearly explained.
We entered the restaurant and were shown to our table laid with thoughtfully provided sanitiser and our own menu. We ordered: x2 venison, x1 faggot, x1 plaice and sides. The delay between mains and sides was slight, but the food is disappointing ... mediocre. I love the location and the building, but the decor, for me, is very much chainlike. I am unlikely to return for the food alone, but absolutely love being in the space. What a shame.

The end of lockdown coincided with my birthday so we stayed at The Pig for a little elegant light relief Rolled up the drive to meet the socially distanced welcoming committee where one young lady gave us a brief rundown and escorted us to our room round the back of the Coach House. A pleasant room with wood panelled walls painted a pale sage and above the panelling a pleasant Wm Morris style wallpaper, a little dark but not oppressively so. Excellent, discreet air con and a fully equipped bathroom with a walk-in monsoon shower that you can turn on and adjust before you get into it.

We stayed at The Pig - at Bridge Place in December for a pre-Christmas break, it was so cosy and festive and in a lovely location for country walks. We stayed in the extremely small room (which is the name of the room) but it was perfect and great value for money. We will definitely be making our way around the other Pig hotels!

We had a lovely nights stay in December. We stayed in a comfy Room in the main house. The room was lovely and bathroom was beautiful, although would have been nice to have had a bath!
Service from all staff was great, very kind and knowledgeable. Drinks were lovely & overall stay was great. I would say it is quite expensive for the food and drink, but when you go somewhere nice like this you do expect it.
Loved walking around the grounds and looking at the walled garden, chickens and quails.
Would definitely recommend. Try the piggy snacks with a drink in a snug!!

We are returning in January in a Comfy Luxe room so will be able to see the difference in rooms for money.

As a couple we’ve been to a lot of Pig hotels over the years, dating back to when there were only a handful of them, and always loved the ambience and relaxed atmosphere combined with really attentive service. So we were really looking forward to celebrating our 10 yr wedding anniversary, and 2 nights off parenting at this particular Pig, and felt confident that we were in for a lovely, relaxing time. As per usual they phoned us a couple of days before to go over our stay and asked if we were celebrating anything, or had any special requirements etc. We told them it was our anniversary and asked for a bottle of bubbly on arrival. We were all set to have a great time but the trip was completely marred by events on our arrival.

When we pulled up outside we saw that there was scaffolding covering most of the exterior of the building and a sign apologising for how it looked. The roof was under repair but we thought nothing of it really as it’s an old building. We were a little early and we were told at reception our room would be ready at 4pm. No problem, we were happy to go and have lunch. We then noticed many guests, who’d arrived after us, being shown to their rooms so at 4pm we checked back with reception to be told our room still wasn’t ready, but she’d ring ‘housekeeping’ to check. Eventually we’re shown to our room and it dawns on us why they’ve been stalling/lying; right outside our window (as in window cleaner close) staring back at us is a rather sheepish looking roofer going about his roofing business. Reception lady tells us that ‘he’ll be finished soon’ and quickly departs. We’re left feeling gobsmacked in our room. The scaffolding encircled our room on 3 sides with the roofer being able to see directly onto the bed and into the bathroom. I go back down to complain and the manager tells me that the roofers ‘only’ work between 10am-4pm and that he ‘probably’ won’t be at our window the whole time… but that we could have two massage treatments on the house…like it was some kind of provincial b&b. Still gobsmacked that they think this is in any way acceptable I insist that they show us to another room and only then does it seem to dawn on the manager that they’ve completely ruined our anniversary celebration and that this sort of thing just isn’t acceptable at a high end hotel. To her credit she is then extremely apologetic and sorts us out another room for the night, with free bubbly (but we do have to move rooms for our second night). Unfortunately the damage is already done and we are left feeling very disappointed and somewhat annoyed that we had to be the ones to instigate a resolution to what was a really obvious mistake/ bare faced lie. To make matters worse they emailed me the bill as we’re settling in for the night on our last night and I notice that they’ve charged us extra for the two new rooms as they were bigger. So I spend a restless night fuming that I now have to go and insist that they charge us the original room rate (which I had paid in advance anyway). They admit to their mistake, but again we had to be the ones to sort it out. Needless to say we will never be going back to this particular Pig and it’s made us evaluate whether the chain as a whole is past its best

I visited the restaurant at The Pig Hotel in Bridge for lunch with friends and what a truly wonderful experience it was.

The period Hotel is set in acres of very well-maintained land, where they also farm the produce that is used by the chefs and boast all the meats and fish are obtained within a 25-mile radius. Has a large car park, the area is ideal for a walk before dining.

We were greeted by the young staff as soon as we walked in and had drinks in the lounge before lunch.

The dining room was very busy which tells its own story, and the décor so fitting, the young staff were very attentive and gave the best possible service, we were afforded a very nice table.

The kitchen is for all to see, and several chefs were well employed.

The menu is varied and offering many local dishes, we had some nibbles while choosing our lunch, I had smoked salmon as a starter and freshly made shepherds pie as a main, it was excellent and served with fresh vegetables, apple crumble for dessert and the house white which was excellent.

It was a lovely lunch set in a beautiful setting and such good service.

For me a repeat visit is very much desired, next time I might stay over.
