Due to issues at airport unfortunately arrived too late at 20:00 being informed the kitchen was closed for dinner which I booked for 19:30. Disappointed the kitchen closed so early, but we where offered a salad which was nice and we appreciated their effort but unfortunately not keen on duck gizzard which was added to the salad.
Staff lovely.
The room had a strange white powder falling on everything in the room all night. It may have been paint or insect repellant. Not sure - but it was all over our clothes, the bed and hair the next morning. Spiders' webs and spiders all over the room. Cleanliness could have easily been improved.
Service was poor-for example, the waiter reluctantly used the coffee machine for us in the morning when we werent happy with the instant on the table. His atitude was very moody and that we were an inconvenient.
The room was about €60 - which isnt bad I guess - just wish they changed a couple of things to improve it greatly.
The rooms are fashioned out of old farm buildings and have only recently been finished so they are a little raw in places and lacking some of the minor touches which will no doubt be added in time but they are spacious, clean and well laid-out and they enjoy spectacular views over the countryside.
The staff also are relatively new to the hospitality industry. We found them all without exception to be entirely charming but we did witness one incident where rather rude and arrogant guest was told that she could not reasonably expect graceful service unless she herself was prepared to offer the common courtesies of 'please' and 'thank you'. At the time of our visit there had been a local storm which had completely disabled the internet connection and thus the credit card facility. Some guests seemed to regard it as the fault of the proprietor and objected strongly to the request that they make a 5 minute drive to a cash machine so they could settle their bill. My sympathy is with the staff who seemed very willing to help but unwilling to accept diisrespect.
The hotel is close to the pilgrimage route. One hopes that these travellers will be more Christian in their outlook.
