Sanctuary Cap Cana, A Luxury Collection Resort, is celebrated for its exceptional service and tranquil location with ocean proximity, providing a serene ambiance and picturesque views. Many travelers praise its cleanliness and luxurious amenities, though some guests have called out issues with room maintenance and dated decor. While the atmosphere is generally relaxing with enjoyable entertainment, the value proposition receives mixed reviews due to unexpected costs and inconsistent quality. We stayed at the Sanctuary from the 6th to the 12th of January. First impressions: this is a very pretty resort (and I'm an architectural historian). Much attention was paid to the architecture and the design. The feel is of a small historical village, but all new and fashionable. It is also very clean and the grounds are well kept. It packs a lot of variety onto a small site.
The welcome at the desk included the predictable sales pitch for upgrades but we eventually received a complimentary upgrade to a Luxury Junior Suite with ocean view. Our porter gave us a quick but thorough tour of the suite which included a walk-in closet, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower with electronic controls, a nicely appointed bedroom (the linen were also nice) and sitting room and a private balcony with a jet tub (you cannot see from one balcony to another ;) ). I particularly appreciated the fine materials used throughout.
Food was fine at all the facilities but is more 4 stars than 5 (then again, you get what you pay for). Our preferred locations were the Casabella (the breakfast and lunch buffet, which offered a fine selection on every occasion), the Wok (with some good Asian food), the Capriccio (decent Italian fare) and the Steakhouse (pretty good steak frites). All of the menus were fine even if some individual items could use a little work (sauces tended to be very salty, breads are not their strong suit, the markup on the wine list is excessive but their house wines are not bad, etc.) Our only disappointment was the Marlin, where the food and the service were just ok (we expected more based on other reviews).
Some reviewers have complained about the lack of sporting activities and equipment on site or the lack of loud and constant animation at the pools. We thought that absence was a plus for this resort. We chose the Sanctuary as a more mature and relaxed resort, based on the reviews, and we were very pleased with the level of activity and noise. We managed to read and even nap by the pools. We also were among the few visitors to enjoy their nice small beach every day. Some reviewers have strangely complained about seaweed when all we experienced was a little innocuous (and non-smelly) sea grass that the resort cleaned up every day. It's the ocean folks, there is stuff in it! We did not try their spa services as the prices seemed a little high to us.
Service went from good to excellent during our whole stay and some of the employees were particularly impressive. I'll only mention Valentina (our daily ray of sunshine), Little Cairo (such a lovely person), (Carlos) Santana at the pool bar, Tatiana at the Jewellery store (who was patient and funny). I even enjoyed the musicians at the Steakhouse (quite top notch)! And, please tip people!
To summarize, this is a fine resort if your intention is to relax. If you are looking to jet ski or party day and night, you might want to look elsewhere. Personally, we are looking forward to going back.

My recent stay at Sanctuary was spectacular! This was my first visit but definitely will not be my last! From the moment I stepped out from my transfer vehicle I felt that the staff was taking every precaution to ensure that guests stay healthy during their stay. At check in I was impressed that they even sanitize the papers they hand you along with the pen under this special light. All of the staff wear a mask. The guests are not required to wear a mask but are asked to consider doing so when in close quarters with others such as the elevator. When I arrived at my room the door was "sealed" with a Safe Stay sticker indicating that it had been cleaned, sanitized and vacant for at least 24 hours. The property is absolutely beautiful! I really enjoyed my time in the infinity pool looking out over the main pool and the beach beyond. I was by myself on this trip so time in this pool really allowed for some Zen time. One evening I enjoyed a soak in the Jacuzzi tub out on my balcony with the full moon. The spa provided another Zen opportunity. I took advantage of the 80 minute massage and it was without a doubt the best massage I've ever had. I had no idea that even my hands were so stressed. lol. The restaurants are beautifully decorated and every staff member goes out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. The menus for each restaurant are available through a QR code. The evening shows were really enjoyable. This property is not one that I would recommend if you are looking for a rowdy party crowd. Yes, the main pool can be quite lively at time but the other two pools allow for quiet. For me this property is better suited for couples or for a spa getaway trip. It was exactly what I needed at the end of a work trip and allowed me to come home a little more refreshed. I look forward to returning to Sanctuary next year with my husband to celebrate our anniversary.

So we always have gone twice to any resort we've chosen when we've had a great time and to see consistency.
Well we returned home last night and the memories are alive and all great.
Its good to see familiar faces at resorts, it means employees are happy where they are and stay.
Its also great when they recognize you as well with the thousands of people they encounter for such a short period of time. It gives you a warm welcome feeling when this happens.
This also has a lot to do with the size of the resort and the staff to guest ratio.
We never felt crowded or couldn't find a beach chair or had to wait in line anywhere for anything.
As I said in the title "second" and there will be a third without a question which is a first for us.
We were also able to get our same "Beach Front Jr Suite" room, which in the hotel industry is not commonly honored as a request.
When we checked in the guest relations people acknowledged our return and welcomed us back offering us champagne and very efficient check in and off to our room we went with our bell cap in a matter of minutes.
I have to say after a 3am rise and long flight, that this alone was so appreciated.
Our favorite restaurant was the steak house and tried everything on the menu in 10 days all items cooked to perfection. A shout out to Damar and Juan Carlos who also remembered us from last year.
We spent our days from 9-6 at the beach and here again Fernando remembered us from last year. His beach service was spot on making his rounds and "Papa" really was taken care of before he could ask.
Bar staff all over the resort were excellent and friendly to us.
Finally Entertainment: Here again above the bar especially with the weather that presented challenges at times.
Wilkins and "Sexy Belly" (sorry, forgot real name) are two of the most notable entertainment MC's we've seen, it becomes quite clear how much they love what they do and they're good at it especially knowing the long day they put in.
There were plenty of activities at the pool areas, but we prefer the laid back beach.
In closing I just wanna say we are not high maintenance people, nor hard to please. I reviewed this resort again because too often people don't report the good and as I said earlier "consistency" is what matters because it shows stability in management.
Another thing I wish to point out is the layout varies greatly from a medieval castle to contemporary 6 story hotel, to cabin suites to Spanish architecture and that variation is very pleasing vs the standardized layouts of other resorts.
353 days to go before we enjoy these people and the work they do once again.

The resort had beautiful pools, buildings, landscaping, and a phenomenal staff. As soon as we arrived, everyone was helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. Our room was upgraded to a gorgeous, oceanview room. The view was breathtaking and the room was so quiet. We did not hear a peep from anyone other than occasional balcony furniture being moved above our balcony. The beds were comfortable and the room was very luxurious. It had all the bells and whistles of a five star hotel.

I would like to take the time to say thank you to an unforgettable staff. Enrique was an amazing server at the buffet. Osvoldi was an excellent server and omelet maker. Aeudy was so attentive to us at the pool area and made sure that we had umbrellas, drinks, and water as needed. Felix made sure that we had the best coffee delivered daily and Jeffry was so sweet blowing up our floats and keeping the pool immaculate. . A.J. helped us check in and made sure that we had transportation lined up for the airport at the time of our departure. Our yoga and water aerobics instructor was an amazing human being. Raymond made the best peach and passion fruit mimosas. Raymond was the best bartender at the Castle Pool. He created amazing and unique orange drinks for our friend, "The Queen". Eric, who is a personal butler, made sure my room was specially decorated for my birthday with a beautiful banner and balloons. Sanchez was an exceptional waiter at the steakhouse and wok restaurant. The Blue Marlin Restaurant was also one of our favorites and the staff was very attentive.

If you are looking for a large beachfront or area to swim or snorkle on site, this is not an ideal location.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at The Sanctuary in late January 2020. Our goal was to have a relaxing stay at a resort and The Sanctuary provided that. We had the pleasure of staying in an Oceanview Monarch Villa (1004). It was spacious and had a large deck with access from the Living Room and Bedroom right on the water. We could relax on the deck, listen to the waves and watch the pelicans fly by. The staff at The Sanctuary were very good – they have a wonderful attitude and enjoy their jobs. Santo our butler was very good. We enjoyed massages by Leidi and Nurys at the wonderful Spa. Carmen looked after our room and was very efficient and pleasant. Hector helped us with transportation at the resort and always had a smile. There were many staff at the restaurants that were great including – Conan, Cairo and Julio. We found the food at the Wok, Cappriccio and the Buffet to be very good and The Steakhouse and Blue Marlin average. The reservations book up quickly at the restaurants that require them. My wife has a nut allergy and they accommodated that very well – at check-in they prepared a card for her to bring to the restaurants and they always asked about allergies before seating us. The beach is small but nice and the variety of pools give you the opportunity to find a nice quiet spot. The gym is spacious with a large variety of equipment. The grounds are very well kept and the landscape lighting and soft music playing along the paths is a nice touch.

We had such a wonderful stay even during a pandemic! They take so many precautions we felt safer here than back home! They have sanitizer stations all around the resort and UV sanitizing when you enter restaurants for your hands as well. All staff wears masks and they have found ways to social distance tables and chairs for events without feeling like you are secluded. Even housekeeping sanitized the rooms and floor everyday I your room and you ca see they clean the whole resort very thoroughly every single day. Resort is also at lesser capacity to allow for less crowding, it was like we had the resort and beach to ourselves at times.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, which was very well decorated, so spacious and had stunning views. Our stay started off with Miguel as our incredible butler! He was so quick to help us and give us tips and suggestions on activities and places to eat. He has so much knowledge about the resort along with local activities and the culture. We highly recommend getting a room that comes with a butler! Especially if you get Miguel!

The Spa was such an incredible experience and their packages included so many amazing treatments. One of the best massages we've gotten! the hydrotherapy was incredible as well.

Sanctuary Town was closed due to COVID safety measures but we still had incredible well made food at all of the restaurants within the resort, Casabella knocks it out out of the park for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Lourdes was the sweetest and remembered us by name everyday, all of the casabella staff is just fantastic! The steakhouse was our favorite! Super Yeri makes the whole dinner so much fun and is an experience all in himself! Blue Marlin is a must for Lunch (the views!10/10) and Dinner and Patricio is so knowledgable and helpful with the menu! We loved Cappricio also! gorgeous restaurant with amazing Italian entrees! The Tiramisu is amazing!

Entertainment here was what really made our trip what it was, we looked forward to the shows every night and the did not disappoint! Juan is the Hypeman and makes every activity and show so much fun all day with his personalty and dance moves! Fido knows how to get the party started and teaches you some good dance moves as well! Fido makes such an amazing effort to get everyone involved and you really can tell him and Juan love their jobs and their visitors! Carlos at the Swim up Bar at the main pool is your guy! he makes some amazing mixed drinks and is such a great guy to chit chat with!

We highly recommend having Alex from the Foto stand do a mini photo session for you while you are here! He is incredibly talented and now thanks to him we have breathtaking photos to look back on from our honeymoon to remember! He will take you around the resort and down to the Beach for the most gorgeous sunset photos!

We will be back here again for our 1 year anniversary next year, all because of the amazing employees who make Santuary Cap Cana the experience of a lifetime!

My friend chose the Sanctuary Cap Cana as the resort for her birthday getaway. Her primary goal was to find a resort with an amazing spa & an opportunity to relax/reginerate for a few days. The Sanctuary did not disappoint! Check in was fast & easy. The lady (cannot recall her name) talked a little fast, so we had to keep asking her her to repeat things. I am used to getting greeted with a drink & cold cloth when arriving at other beach resorts, but that did not happen here (maybe due to COVID??) After checking in we were introduced to our Butler ERIC who is absolutely amazing!! During our entire trip he catered to us whenever we called on him! He made our stay memorable!
The spa offered a special that included the sauna, steam room, chocolate scrub & deep tissue message for $175, so we spent a couple hours in the spa & loved every minute of it! July at the front desk was very nice & took time to explain all the services. Leidy & Mireya were top knotch! Ask for them if you go for a massage. Luis was also great he kept us laughing between services.
If you are looking for a quiet/relaxing getaway, this is the place. You are asked to wear a mask in certain areas of the resort, which we totally understand. Guests were not required to wear masks in other areas. All staff members wore masks at all times. I felt like the property is doing a good job ensuring everyone maintain their 6ft distance & have sanitizer stations everywhere.
Some of my reviews are long, so I will leave different reviews for the room, restaurants, bars & pool... please be sure to read them as well.

My friend and I booked this trip in July and tracked the reviews. It was one of the few resorts that would always mention COVID-19 precautions, which is why we chose it.

The resort is a $30 taxi ride from the airport. They take your temperature upon arrival. The resort was at about 25-30% capacity and never felt overcrowded, allowing us to be able to comply with social distancing measures. However, there are larger crowds by the pool bar. My friend and I would spend our time at the beach or one of the other pools, which never brought more than one or two other couples the entire day. Escobar was our favorite bartender and took care of us the whole week. He always provides great services and the best drinks!!! Our room was also amazing and we had the most amazing views of the ocean. Nancy our housekeeper was always very helpful and friendly too!!

My mornings started out at the gym, which you need to reserve a spot for. They only allow 3ppl per hour, which made the space very comfortable and safe to workout in. Sexy Monkey managed the gym but he also gave some great stretching/yoga classes overlooking the water, which I highly recommend as a great way to start off the day.

We also took a bike tour with Happy Boy, who was a great host at the pool and during live entertainment nights. He always kept us entertained with fun games on the beach as well.

At the restaurants, they have UV lights and hand sanitizer everywhere and are constantly cleaning. Breakfast at the buffet was always delicious with fresh juices and made to order omelettes. The fried fish, churrasco and grilled shrimp in garlic sauce at the Blue Marlin were always good for lunch. My friend and I would share the meats platter at the steakhouse. It’s a lot of food so try to go hungry. For dessert, the chocolate soufflé with icecream was always a nice way to end the night! The Italian restaurant was ok but a little underwhelming for my taste. Levis was our waiter in many of the restaurants and was always very attentive and helpful. Valentina was one of the hostess who always welcomed everyone with a smile and towards the end of the trip, she had known my name and room number, which I appreciated.

Everyone at the resort welcomed you with a smile and wants you to have a great time there. The employees always wear their masks and help keep the resort clean. I will definitely be back again!!!

I can’t say enough about this resort, the staff, property, food, and location. The property is a quick 15 minute drive from the airport and you’re transported to a complete paradise!

We were hesitant to travel during covid, but this resort did an excellent job! Hand sanitizer stations everywhere, staff always wore masks, social distancing was encouraged and occupancy was low to accommodate social distancing.

The staff made our trip extra memorable. Special shout out to our amazing butler Emilio, fill in yoga instructor Fido, bartenders Carlos and Esteban, Spanish “class” teacher Juan, and grounds keeper Yafy. Each one of them went out of their way to make our trip extra special from arranging excursions, anticipating our every need, remembering our drink orders, offering to clean shells for us that we found on the beach, and always there with a friendly smile and hello. The staff are what truly makes this place special!

The resort itself is gorgeous! It had some historical buildings that were refurbished, modernized, and repurposed (think fortress turned hotel). The property was uniquely elegant.

If you’re looking for a property with over the top activities this isn’t the property for you. If you’re looking for a laid back resort with occasional things to do, this property will be as perfect for you as it was for us. They offered daily (or near daily) yoga, bike tours, Spanish lesson classes, fitness classes (Zumba among others), meditation on beach, and nightly entertainment (cello, violin, Dominican dance, etc.).

The food was excellent! Before going we were a bit worried about how the food would be since we didn’t see many pictures of food or reviews describing the food. Because the resort has limited capacity, not all food venues were open (and not all open every day), but each and every venue had delicious and varied food! The bars had excellent drinks. The bartenders would make the drink strong when requested.

The pools were incredible and there were always plenty of seats available including different seating options- cabanas, loungers, pool bar seats, etc.

The only negative was the beach. It’s a beautiful beach but because we came the day after Hurricane Isaias, it was covered in seaweed. The staff was diligent in clearing the seaweed but it was a Herculean task and the beach was closed for two days. (Pro tip: the public beach Juanillo is right next to the property. It’s a beautiful long stretch of white sand that can be used) Enjoy!

I agree with most of the reviews. The staff are all fabulous, the entertainment crew obviously love their jobs & who wouldnt in a lovely resort? We changed rooms, there was a slight issue & the room was a little dated & not what we expected. Moved to Building 2 & it was fabulous. So clean, amazing sleep quality & quiet, which brings me on to the fact that this was the only place for a bit of peace! Dont get me wrong, I like to see people enjoying their selves, but the music noise around the main pool for us, was just too much! There was no where to relax & switch off . You could even hear it on the beach . The quieter pool at the top the beds got reserved ,& those that didnt had no shade.
I'd like to make a suggestion regarding towels on beds to " claim" them for the day. It would be good if guests once leaving " their" sun bed would have the courtesy to maybe take their towels off them , so it's clear to see when a sun bed is free for someone else to use. Towel bins will need to be placed around the pool ( they have them in the florida resorts we have been to). Aparantly the resort was 65% full when we arrived , I wouldnt like to be there if it was at its maximum capacity!
Unfortunately our stay was cut short by three & a half days due to the coronavirus & our tour company got us back early. The place was scaled down over the last couple of days with the restaurant choices limited. I understand the resort is now closed. Such a shame for all the people who worked there. I hope once this has all passed, people will return to this lovely part of the world.

I’ll say get to the beach if you can at 9am, because it does get full quick and it might be harder to get beach chairs.
