Nestled close to the airport with stunning beaches, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana garners praise for its comprehensive amenities, including a luxurious spa and water park, although some guests suggest improvements in digital communication. The vibrant atmosphere, enlivened by live shows, is a highlight, yet noise can be a downside for some. While the spacious, modern rooms receive accolades, occasional maintenance and service speed issues do arise.
Service quality shines, with staff earning commendations for their warmth and attentiveness, and cleanliness standards are generally upheld throughout the property. However, opinions on value are mixed, with some guests pointing out unexpected charges.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We chose to visit Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana on the recommendation of one of our neighbors in lieu of Beaches at Turks and Caicos after comparing reviews on several travel websites. We had a fabulous stay – the resort and staff greatly exceeded our expectations and we would happily consider visiting again! We have two young girls, aged four and eight months, and it was the perfect resort for young families.
For those not familiar, Hyatt Ziva is paired with Hyatt Zilara. Ziva is the family-friendly side while Zilara is 18+ only. Having said that, patrons cross sides all the time (so long as parents leave their kids in the care of others when they do).
First, we must say we were deeply impressed with the architecture and decor of the resort. It has a modern, clean, beautiful, and slightly whimsical feel. We immediately felt relaxed upon arriving while waiting to complete check-in. We found ourselves often admiring the look and feel throughout our stay.
The rooms were reasonably clean and there was an option to get both a morning cleaning and afternoon turn-down. A single room with a king bed and pull-out sofa was a good size for our family of four. There was a spacious outside patio that was a great place to have our older daughter colour while our youngest napped. The only real complaint we had about the room was that it was impossible to control the humidity – we are just not used to the tropics! Best to keep the deck door closed and AC running to avoid moistness in the room.
We spent many of our daytime hours at the pool and waterpark. Both were a lot of fun. The kids end of the pool facilitated a lot of impromptu playdates with other young kids and there was a restaurant nearby (Prontoz) for poolside food (mostly pizza and salad – the pizza was solid). They had waiters walking around offering drinks and fresh fruit. We enjoyed taking our oldest daughter to the other end of the long pool where there was a swim-up bar offering many kiddie smoothies (and adult drinks of course).
We went to the beach one morning. Our daughter loved playing in the sand but the water was a bit murky and had a lot of seaweed so we mostly stayed out of it. It eventually got too hot without being in the water so we went back to the pool. The beach was our sole disappointment during the entire experience.
The water park was fantastic! Our oldest daughter loved going down all the waterslides and the lazy river was fun too. There were two poolside food trucks offering decent food (including soft serve!).
The resort had fantastic arrangements for children – this was one of the highlights because it gave us parents some solo time. We would often drop our daughter at kids club (ages 4+) in the late afternoon where the very enthusiastic staff would offer lots of activities and movies – and also take them to dinner at Mercado (the Ziva-side buffet restaurant). Each night there was a kid-friendly part of the show which they would take them to as well; parents are expected to pick up their kids by 8:40pm. Our older daughter loved it! Once she went a couple times, she was always clamouring to go to the kids club. With the help of concierge, we arranged for an in-room paid babysitter for our younger daughter. They made sure we had the same babysitter every night – very thoughtful! – and our babysitter Yajaira “Yaya” Rodriguez was wonderful with our youngest child. She would take her at 5:30pm every night, play with her, feed her a bottle, and put her to sleep by 7. It all went pretty flawlessly and gave us two hours for a solo dinner. She was very sweet and nurturing, you could tell she enjoyed being around kids. The kids club was included while babysitting was $25/hour with 2 hour minimum.
There are also plenty of activities for kids. Daily they publish the kids-club activities: pool-side slime making, soccer on the beach, etc. So you can enjoy those events even if you do not drop your child off at the kids club. They had different characters (disney, robots, etc) and music by the main buffet for kids around dinner time. They also have a nightly show (at 7:30) for families, while we were there we saw acrobatics, music, and a magic show. Our 4 year old loved all of them.
Speaking of dinner, all-inclusive resorts have a mediocre reputation for food – but this cannot be said of Hyatt Ziva/Zilara!
As a preface we have to first state that our youngest daughter is very allergic to dairy and egg (we carry an epi pen at all times) and this is a big source of anxiety for us when travelling – but to our delight and relief each restaurant did a fantastic job accommodating our allergies. At the Mercado buffet, the manager George personally walked us around to all the stations for breakfast and lunch pointing out safe foods. For the table service restaurants, they cooked all allergy meals in separate cookware (and maybe a separate kitchen?) to completely prevent cross-contamination. We could not have asked for any better accommodation of allergies and it exceeded what we’ve seen from most US restaurants.
Moving on to dining experience itself, we should first mention that the family-side buffet restaurant, Mercado, punched far above its weight for what you’d think of as a buffet. It was pretty tasty. We went there every day for breakfast. There were many stations which meant you never really got bored going there- fruit, eggs benedict, waffles, variety of pastries, etc. We especially loved the Dominican station with its beans, stews, and plantain dishes. (It made us wonder why they didn’t have a feature restaurant dedicated to Dominican cuisine. It also inspired us to research Dominican recipes upon our return!) Our server for breakfast, Javier sel Mercado, was especially attentive to us and playful with our kids. Congratulations to the restaurant manager George for doing a tremendous job running this place!
My wife and I met and lived for many years in San Francisco where we often felt spoiled by the availability of fantastic and innovative restaurants and we’d classify two of the resort restaurants in this class of institution
First, on the Hyatt Ziva side, there was the Italian restaurant “Noodle and Thread.” This was excellent Italian food! Highlights include the caccio e peppe, the pizzas, and one of the chicken dishes (we’re not ones to even love restaurant chicken). Kudos goes to the managers Carlos Brito and Suanito and hosts Charina and Sonlly for curating such an experience. We also loved how they decorated it!
Then, on the Zilara (adult only) side, Brando’s was just superb: we went there twice! We loved all the signature cocktails, tried three of the entrees (the salmon, beef tenderloin, and duck were all fantastic, though the duck especially stands out), and we just had to get the ceviche both times. Also, the ambiance included wireframe bulbous partitions, chess piece-like lampstands, and black-bottomed shallow pools of water – extraordinarily creative and delightful! The service was also excellent. A shout out to our servers on each night: first Eduardo Berroa then Julio Mercades. Also, big congratulations to the restaurant manager Jaime! It’s an experience we dare not forget.
The only restaurant that really disappointed us in terms of food was the lunch at Navigator Grill. Tempest Table (Asian) and Journeys (Indian) were both solidly above average for their kind of cuisine but didn’t strike us in the same way as Brandos or Noodle and Thread.
In terms of drinks, Grog Grotto on the Ziva side and One-Eyed Cat on the Zilara side both served excellent specialty cocktails. (Yes, cocktails are weaker on the Ziva side, but that seems prudent, doesn’t it?) One-Eyed Cat took us right back to our pre-kid days hanging in cool bars: the ambiance, decor, service, and quality of drinks were just stellar.
My wife visited the spa for one session and really enjoyed it.The staff were all very professional, the grotto area was very beautiful, and the extended massage treatment was great.
we never really had a chance to make use of the gym – but we walked through it crossing over to the Zilara side. We were shocked at its expanse and quality – it spanned four or five rooms and had enough modern gear to keep at least 40 people occupied without feeling crowded. It had any kind of exercise gear you could want in a gym: weight machines, free weights, spin bikes, regular bikes, treadmills, etc.
A few pro tips for travelling families:
- As your kids make friends at the pool, be sure to evangelise the kids club with their parents. The kids club is way more fun for your kids with familiar faces around and most parents don’t realise the kids club exists or will escort kids to dinner. And most parents happily jump at the opportunity. Our daughter still talks about some of the friends she made there.
- Swimwear won’t dry out like you expect it to given the humidity. Pack multiple swimsuits and consider disposable swim diapers so that you’re never reusing wet swimwear
- If using baby bottles, pack dish soap for washing and wash with bottled water. You can request a case of bottles to be delivered to the room if you are mixing formula. The resort cannot provide dish soap.
- We used powdered formula + bottled water. We also used bottled water to wash bottles. The mini-fridge in the room felt cold enough should you prefer ready to feed formula.
- Bring your own tote bag and floaties for the pool/beach unless you want to buy there. Our experience all the parents were very nice in sharing toys and having the kids play together..
- You can pre-arrange babysitting before arrival by reaching out to concierge over the phone or via email.
- For lunches, consider skipping the poolside restaurants and head to Mercado when you can! It’s annoying to dry off and move but the food quality is far better and with more variety.
- Bring US cash with you for tips. Even though it is an all-inclusive, the staff work very hard and the service is fantastic. You can get cash at the resort but they charge a 10% fee.
- You can reduce airport baggage by renting a stroller through Concierge. I would call ahead to ensure they have one available.
- The resort will also help you book transport to and from the hotel. Just be sure to clearly specify what type of car seats you need if travelling with children.
- In terms of water quality, there is plenty of bottled water at the resort and the ice is safe. We had heard things about friends travelling to the DR (staying at other places) and getting sick, but this was not a concern at this resort. We had plenty of cold drinks with ice and had zero issues.
Our five day stay at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana was truly phenomenal. We could hardly have asked for anything better! Above all, we want to express our greetings from afar to each and every one of the staff. They were at all times friendly, endearing, and thoughtful. Without them, the resort would be nothing – well done!

An absolute gem! We are big fans of the Hyatt Ziva chain, so were excited to check out their newest location. The raving reviews are all true!
We stayed in a Grand Master Suite with 2 children (5 & 7). The check-in process was very quick and we were able to get into our room early. Our room was a corner room on the 7th floor, the views were beautiful. There was a small office with a pullout couch for the kids (along with a closet), dining area with bar, living room with large tv (and another pullout couch), ¾ bathroom on one side and then a large walk-in closet, full bath and master bedroom with couch on the other. Both had large doors to the balcony, which had a large jacuzzi tub. The room was larger than pictured on Hyatt’s website…I think they used the pictures from the regular Master Suite? The room was cleaned everyday by the time we came up from the pool. I would highly recommend club level…we used the Club Room everyday, stopping in for snacks or a drink. Being able to access the pool bar, bathrooms and Chinola restaurant dedicated to Club Level was definitely worth it.
The waterpark was so much fun & kept the kids busy for hours! I was pleased to see how seriously the lifeguards took their jobs and kept safety #1 priority, yet interacted with the kids making it fun. Showing my daughter how to use the water sprayers to get people on the lazy river and when we were the only ones on the waterslide tower, they would meet him halfway down the top flight of stairs to carry the tube us. One day at the pool I was trying to blow up some floaties when the server Manuel came over and offered to assist. He tracked down one of the beach sport guys and together they were able to get them blown up for us without me even asking. Above & beyond!
The food and all of the restaurants were fabulous. Mercado was the best buffet I have been to…there were so many good options & they had multiple serving stations so never a wait. At the restaurants, they almost always brought out the kids’ meals first which was appreciated. Chinola was my favorite, the location on the beach had beautiful views and food was so good. The house wine was a lot better than I expected for an AI. Drinks at the pool were all delicious as well. They had Sky, Tito’s & Don Julio to our surprise.
Our kids really enjoyed the kids club activities around the property, the treasure hunt, soccer on the beach, face painting, ice cream at the pool and every night there was a children’s movie on the lawn

This was my third Hyatt Ziva experience with the family, we had previously stayed at Hyatt Ziva Cancun in 2016 and Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos in 2018, always and now Christmas Day through the New Year. Hyatt really knows how to put on a party! Live band and fireworks on the beach with lobsters, filet mignon, king crab legs, champagne, the works! So much fun for the whole family up to Midnight and the the late teens through the 30s took over with a DJ. The food all week was awesome. The rooms are huge, each balcony has its own couch. The lights in the bathroom go on and off at night to motion sensor. The shower is huge with multiple spraying devices. There are two sinks in each room, two full closets, robes, slippers and they smartly did not put alcohol in the rooms because of the past bad publicity that turned out to be a non issue. Separate room for the toilet. Door bell and light to let the maid know not to come in. They placed my husband and I in a king next to our 21 and 15 year old sons to one side and my 19 and 17 year old daughters to the other side, they each slept in their own queens. Every room overlooks the pool and ocean. The backside of our room where you walked in overlooked the roof top tennis and basketball courts, lit up at night!. There is a full waterpark with slides for the older kids/teenagers/moms and dads and a kiddie area for the young. Right next door to that is the kids club and teenager lounge with fooseball, pool table, video games, etc. In the lobby is icecream ice pops, donuts, and healthier treats, coffee bar, regular bar. Consier Jenny and Javier were so helpful booking excursions and arranging to go to the Hard Rock to gamble at night (go check out the Hard Rock at night, its like you are in a mini Vegas, nice to visit but wouldnt want to sleep there) The gym is the most gorgeous gym I have every been in and I have been around the world. It is an entire floor. There is a huge spin room with at least twenty spin bikes. You can watch a video like Peleton or have an instructor at 11 am. Next door to that is a huge Yoga room. And the weight room is spread out. Just amazing. The trainer used to play professional baseball on the island so he offered to do long toss with our 15 year old pitching son and gave him a workout! The pools were gorgeous with in water cabanas. The ocean beach was pure white sand, so soft on the feet, clean, water wonderful, kayaks, little sail boats, but nothing too much. 15 min Airport!

Wow wow wow!!! Well, my husband and I have been on many different places all over the world, but this place, this resort left us speechless. First and foremost, this place made us feel more protected than anywhere else. Everything is sanitized throughly, you have to sanitize your hands before you take towels, before walking into the restaurant, they bring you antiseptic wipes and hand sanitizer to take at all times, and the hotel isn’t at full capacity, making sure everyone is maintaining social distancing.
We have received the BEST service we have ever experienced, heidy has made sure from the moment we got out of the taxi to the moment we left the resort, that we were happy, had everything we wanted, we really felt like a king and a queen. Bladi, our butler, made sure we are good at all times and even brought me Dominican coffee to make at home, since I fell in love with it too much.
The food is unbelievable, and I’m very picky and spoiled with food! David Barreiro and Felix perfecto made sure to make everything I wanted and craved for, even if it’s not on the menu. They knew I was sensitive to dairy and gluten and made sure I’m taken care of, davie even made special gluten free pizza and gnocchi just for me :)
In the evening, every restaurant we tried, David Barreiro made sure we have everything we could think about and more. He was so considerate about the fact I’m picky with my food, and made delicious choices.
chinola had the most amazing breakfast, Felix is incredible at making super healthy, tasty food with so many options! Lots of things for keto, paleo, gluten-free. And if it’s not on the menu and you crave it- Felix perfecto will make sure you get it!
All the waiters (Gil, William, Louis) , bar tenders were just beyond our expectations, they were surrounding us 24/7 making sure we were happy!
Besides the fact that the resort is just beautiful and pampering, the prettiest beach I’ve ever seen, beautiful spa shaped like a cave (thank you Ana and margarita for a pampering massage) the most important thing was the staff!! They have just made our trip. You can see how deeply they value visitors in their resort and from the bottom of their hearts want you to enjoy and be happy. We were so so so sad to leave and we are confident we will be back sooner then they think!
I’m sorry we didn’t remember all the names, but every single staff member has just made our trip.
Thank you for the best vacation we ever had

For our third trip to Hyatt in Cap Cana we were worried that it would never live up to the magic of our first. Not to worry, it did.
We went to the Zilara for a romantic getaway a year ago and returned this year with our kids to Ziva.. We felt it was a safe COVID destination due to the very low rates in Punta Cana. The staff are all wearing masks and sanitizer is available and encouraged everywhere around the resort
In particular, the resort manager Hilario was incredible. So helpful and professional, my wife really wanted a room on the top floor and with better view and he was able to switch us to a much better one. We are eternally grateful for the help and for the experience.
A few tips now that we are avid repeaters. The a la carte restaurants are all great, however, we would highly recommend the buffet because of the immense variety of quality food available. Purchase your excursions through the Hyatt representative at the resort, they will, recommend the best and safest excursions in the island including Scape Park which was a really awesome and unique experience and just 10 minute ride from the resort.
It was the perfect place to find a bit of rest from COVID and all the anxiety right now.
The room, bars, pool, beach and grounds are exceptional as always. There is really no place like it. We will be back and you should go too!!!

The resort is practically new and the deterioration due to poor construction and poor maintenance can already be seen if you are extremely meticulous with peeling walls, damp stains, unpleasant odors, do not go to this hotel.
The service is incredibly good, I would say more than five stars, especially the room service, Mr. Juan Adolfo is the most professional person I have ever met, everything you want or want at any time the room service will satisfy you .
Do not do the update for the club service, you will actually pay for nothing, a concierge who does not solve anything and does nothing, and having lunch in a restaurant that does not make a difference.
I recommend the bracelet keys, they are incredibly useful, you don't have to worry about the blessed card keys.
In the area of entertainment and activities this hotel has a lot to work on, the activity in the pool and beach area is very poor, besides the shows at night can be as boring as operetta singers or a tribute to frank sinatra. The best day is Tuesdays which is the beach party (incredible isn't it?) Special attention to allison and Amado, these guys do have the desire and the attitude for entertainment and the only ones I saw working.
In short, the hotel is one of the best in the area, but if you are extreme with details, don't go.
important: security is extreme in this place, you can feel super safe and the cleaning service very good too.

My Family decided to go on a Holiday to this hotel, considering it has been a difficult time with de COVI-19 situation. Hotel was full prepared to receive guests, every area was properly cleaned and desinfected, it gave me and my family the confidence to enjoy the stay without worrying of the disease. The service was AMAZING, it was personalized for everybody's needs. I personally loved the fact that in the buffet all meals were served by the staff for the customer to enjoy, which helped to maintain hygiene properly.
The view from my bedroom was like a dream come true, i had a view of all the hotel and the beach.
Room Service was a really good option for those days that we wanted to chill in bed, and menu had many options.
My little sisters and i enjoyed a lot the water park, and loved the safety measurements they had.
We ate in various restaurants, food and service was excellent. The quality of the food was incredible, it was the best. Meat and seafood were incredibly good and there were options for all types of diets.
Over all i recommend this hotel 100% to anyone that enjoys top quality in every aspect of service, it is adequate for families and for couples, it has many restaurants available for different needs, and service is unbeatable.
My trip was so comfortable because i had so much help and attention from Mr. Pedro Tomas and Mrs Darling, they were always committed to give us the best of the best.

The hotel was fabulous. The hotel was not busy which was very pleasant. Staff are very attentive. Food is good quality. They have an excellent gym. The pool is cool-cold but they have a hot-hot tub. The beach is man made but lots of it. The ocean had a concrete barrier which helps keep the seaweed to a minimum. The property isn’t the largest but has an adult section which is connected but no children are able to go to that side. They also have a great water park for kids. The hotel is also about 15mins away from the airport and $30USD taxi ride. The hotel is still being finished so some areas are still under construction but noise is minimal. The hotel rooms are new with new beds and lots of room. With 2 young kids, I wished they had a bath tub in bathroom. But the showers had a hose wand to rinse the kids. The balcony has a nice view of the ocean which also includes a huge circular lounger for perfect naps. There are some rooms that have a beautiful swim up pools.

We are very pleased and grateful of taking this opportunity to thank all the staff at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana but several names that really touched our heart in our vacation birthday celebration is Felix The Bellboy,Pamela Club lounge reception, Faudicio Bartender with his special Dominican Passion fruit Capiriña drinks at the club house reception area. The rock star Bladi our butler very attentive, pleasing and reachable at all times thanks for arraigning the best birthday surprise ever my wife was ecstatic, surprised and very appreciative in making her feel special. Jose from animation, guy is full of unlimited, fun party time energy ,happiness and a great charisma once he is around that energy automatic transfer to you and room is full off happiness and laughters. Santos waiter from Tempest Asian restaurant, Felix waiter from Navigator restaurant, George waiter from Indian restaurant, Antonio waiter from French restaurant and the Super star Of the trip Daisy our favorite Hostess at the Indian, French and Steak house restaurant. And we had the privilege in speaking to Heidi Mendoza the Director of rooms to express our gratitude and the wonderful job the staff are doing in keeping us safe and stress free from this global pandemic. I will gladly and highly recommend coming to Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana with no doubt or worries due to the high standards procedures when it comes to the disinfecting, cleanliness and delicacy in handling food and the availability of hand sanitizer station thru out the property. Thank you all for treating us like family and giving your heart to us, can’t wait to come back.

We just returned from a week long stay and couldn't have asked for a better vacation! The property itself is absolutely beautiful and the pools and beach are gorgeous and well maintained. We stayed in an oceanfront room which was very spacious with a large balcony where we could watch the sun rise each morning. Everything about the resort was 5 star quality but what truly made it exceptional was the staff and service. Their warmth, positive attitude, and desire to make our stay memorable were what really set this resort apart from others that we have visited in the past. In particular, Delfy and Ransel were wonderful and were always letting us know about the daily activities and making sure that we were enjoying our stay. Alberto and Fransica on the beach provided excellent service and made sure we never went without a drink and Miron at the pool took great care of our girls and their endless shirley temple and strawberry daquiri requests:)
We travelled with another family and our girls ages 12,10,10, and 8 absolutely loved the Kids Club. They had multiple activites every day including tie dye shirt making, painting, beach olympics, and bracelet making which the girls thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Stephanie, Katie, and Hokenda for being so warm and caring with our girls! They also thoroughly enjoyed the water park which was not crowded at all and had some great slides and a lazy river.
The food at every restaurant was delicious especially Journeys on the Zilara side and Chinola. Requermy who served us at Chinola went above and beyond to make our experience memorable and his level of service was sincerely appreciated.
The entertaiment each night was excellent especially the Beach Party and numerous activites were available to do each day such as beach yoga, aqua bike, and trivia. The spa was top notch and very beautiful with a hugh hydrotherapy pool set inside what looks like a stone grotto. We did the couples massage/hydrotherapy special which was wonderful and very relaxing.
Lastly, if anyone is worried about COVID and travelling to this resort, don't be. They are extremely diligent about cleaning all areas and we constantly saw staff members disinfecting and following all safety protocols. All staff wore masks and they are required of all guests in all interior areas. I honestly felt it was cleaner here than in most places in the US. Testing to go home was also quick and effecient.
In summary, I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to have an incredible, truly relaxing vacation. We definitley hope to return in the future!

I never saw any setlzers.
They do have presidente beer.
There is a group on fb I think someone posted the liquor available at bars
Hi. I walked only a bit of the beach yet, it is very extensive.
Take a look on Google maps to see exactly how far you can go.
You will be stoped if you go onto resort property where you are not a guest.
The beach was beautiful. We were lucky that the seaweed was minimal.
