The hotel is in an idyllic village and it is a lovely quiet area. we stopped as our halfway point down to Cornwall. the pub was nice and looks like it would be cosy in the winter. we stayed on a Thursday night and it was very quiet but the staff were very attentive and we didn't feel rushed as...

Arrived early evening and had over friendly welcome - the bar was empty and chilly but we thought it would get busier/warmer as the evening progressed - wrong! Even thought the fire was burning away the bar never seemed to get warm. Bar area looked like it used to be a great food pub and plenty of prize plates on...

We came here for our Christmas lunch 2014. Upon arrival we were shown to our table and battled at the bar for the poor solitary bartenders attention to get a round of drinks. The starters came followed by the main. We then waited 1 hour and 40 minutes to get our desserts. Needless to say by that time we were...

How an owner can go on holiday and leave his staff to provide service without the necessary support beggars belief . Waited 70 mins for starters much of the menu was unavailable ,when arrived it was cold and way below an acceptable standard . 45 mins later the mains arrived ..total garbage on a plate . The only saving grade...

We had lunch here today..a rather dreary January day . On entering the pub the first impression was of a strong & not very pleasant smell of hot oil. Also the room was very chilly despite the presence of a welcoming log fire burning brightly. Our meal was slow to arrive . There were only 5 other diners. However ,...

Winter lunch date with friends. A real cosy restaurant with roaring fire. Lunch menu was nice and service was good. It was very quiet. There was ample parking. Took a while to find the pub signs in the village would help.

A charming, village restaurant with lots of character. With family coming from abroad and across the UK to the meal, we were hoping the service and food would not let the occasion down - and it certainly didn't. The food was excellent and the chef changed certain dishes to some of our family's requirements. Service was friendly without feeling pushy...

Lunch with a business colleague. There was much about the steak ciabatta so we both had this. It did not disappoint-very tasty, great steak and a good price to boot. The menu looked really appetising going through it, which makes me want to go again soon and try it with the family. Lovely old pub, roaring open fire.....will be back.

I was really hoping that this meal was going to be good. Sadly, yet again (we came about 18 months ago) it was not good. Cannot understand why as they were not rushed off their feet as there were only a couple of tables booked. You had to ask for the bar staff's attention as they were permanently chatting and...

Lots of atmosphere in this 15th century inn. Spotlessly clean, food excellent and staff friendly and efficient. Award-winning chef provides a varied and interesting menu. Our break was a Wowcher offer but we didn't sense any difference in how we were treated. Nothing was too much trouble. We'll be back, even at full price it's well worth it.
